AMERICAblog: Washington Post endorsement: Obama "is the right man for a perilous moment;" McCain "has seemed rash and impulsive."

  • Baal · 1 year ago
I never thought they would stop doing their best possible Washington Times imitation. Then again, maybe the Washington Times will endorse Obama too.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
"reservations and concerns"? Hardly a rock solid endorsement, esp. coming from a paper that licked up Bush's every lie and asked for more. Nothing like triangulating.

This is good because it helps people who don't like Obama identify with the writer. It's called the Marc Anthony effect.
  • PAULinDC · 1 year ago
Well, good on 'em. My guess as to the McCranky campaign's response: "Enormous hope is not a strategy." Whatever, the Post is now on board with the rest of us.

This from the Elko Daily Free Press -- will some groups stop at nothing to defeat Obama? Notice, though, the last line for attendance.

Stop Obama Tour' rolls into Elko

By JOHN SENTS - Staff Writer
    Thursday, October 16, 2008 1:40 PM PDT

ELKO - A bus tour to attack Sen. Barack Obama and promote Sen. John McCain for president stopped in Elko this morning.

The tour is organized and funded by Sacramento-based Our County Deserves Better, a political action committee led by former California state Republican Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian.

According to its Web site, the Our Country Deserves Better committee is “determined to tell the truth that is not being told by many in the media and among our national leaders: Barack Obama is an inexperienced, far-left, naive, 'Blame America First' arrogant liberal, and that our country deserves better for our next president and commander-in-chief.”

Our Country Deserves Better coordinator Joe Wierzbicki said the PAC has independently raised more than $750,000 in donations.

The rally in Elko Main City Park featured Sacramento-based radio talk show host and TV pundit Mark Williams, Sacramento military mom and executive director of military relations for Move America Forward Deborah Johns, and singer and black conservative activist Lloyd Marcus.

Marcus opened and closed the rally singing songs and interjecting his own political lyrics, in one case changing the lyrics of the Hall and Oates song “Sarah Smile” to be a song in support of Sarah Palin and John McCain.

Marcus said he feels Obama is a “hardcore liberal” and “pits Americans against one another.”

Pundit Williams said Obama's tax plan would “steal” from people who make more than $250,000 and it is not fair to take away the money people earn. He raised issue with Obama's middle name, Hussein, and said there are some who act like they aren't allowed to say it. He said Obama and Democrats think Americans don't pay enough taxes or have enough regulations.

Johns said “McCain is a visionary that has the ability to lead this country in a positive direction for the change we need.”

“Barack Obama is not even worthy to shine the shoes of John McCain,” Johns said.

She said the country's recent economic struggles are Democrats' fault and said Obama is like a “Monday morning armchair quarterback” that waits to see how the public reacts before making a statement.

“Listen to his rhetoric,” Johns said. “Listen to it carefully, ladies and gentlemen, because it is a very telling story.”

One person, Elko resident Herb Stoll, sat outside the rally in the park with a pro-Obama sign. He said the rally seems like more mudslinging to him.

The national bus tour will conduct 35 anti-Obama, pro-McCain rallies in key swing states where the presidential election will be determined including Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Roughly 30 residents attended the event.

That's hilarious...are those the last 30 holdouts for McBush? They are really catering to the mouth-breathers now.

He has inspired millions of voters of diverse ages and races, no small thing in our often divided and cynical country. We think he is the right man for a perilous moment.

    --------------------

It's interesting how they note it as a "perilous moment". It denotes something that is coming down the pipe? The economy has not hit rock bottom yet, but it will. And when it does, that will be a perilous time! If Obama wins, he will facing the onslaught of criticism, almost as if he is to blame for the gross ineptitude of the bush crime family. If he fails one inch, he will be called a failure. Of course the traitorous media will be happy to rake him over the coals on any issues he flubs, contrary to what they have done in the last 8 years. This is only conjecture, but it seems that's what he is being set up for.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Not actually. Think about it! His entire life is a preparation of having to be the best at what he does....just to be considered equal! I know, I'm African American! At their deepest core, Americans want someone they can trust, who's beyond the system.

He is the right man for the moment. He has far more to prove than a John McCain.

Tiger Woods doesn't play against the field, or even himself. He plays against "history". Obama knows what will be at stake if he fails.

I understand what you are saying Blackwolf, I am merely commenting on what the media will project as well as what the REPUKES will do after he gets elected. I wholly agree with you that he is the man for the job. As noted before, I don't agree 100 percent with what he says on certain issues, but by god, he is so much better then what we have had in last 8 years, and quite honestly a more intelligent candidate then we have had in a long time. His Kennedy'esque style is very telling.

p.s I would trust this man with my wallet. So to speak....
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
I share your view that I don't agree 100%, but to build the consensus that he has achieved takes compromise on not only Obama's part but on the part of the electorate. Blackwolf's point of having to be better not equal is also true. Bigotry and racial divide run deep in America. Seeing and hearing that bias is a frightening thing but it is for the most part due to a lack of education. In the case of McCain and Palin they are the typical white trash who have been allowed to play politics without ever being held accountable. McCain has never done a single thing to distinguish himself from the herd of petty politicians who will do and say anything to get elected. Palin is simply a female with a set of legs and boobs and the men of the Republican party only think with their small heads. She has no experience, huge bias and has been told either by Todd or her minister what to do and think her whole life.
Obama rises above the bias and bigotry in a way that Martin Luther King did. I think King knew he would die a horrible death but it didn't frighten him and made him more determined to make a difference. Obama seems to have the courage to admit he can't do it all himself and will surround himself with the best advisors and take recommendations from one and all. McCain has the same worn out lobbyists and Republican officials who just want the status quo to continue. It is nice to have hope for the future, something Bush deprived us of for the past 8 years.

Bush talks: Blames financial meltdown on people who "bought houses they couldn't afford."

My son bought this doublewide 12 yrs ago with a $565/mo payment which he has always paid on time. Is it going to be his fault if he loses his job in commercial construction (construction of every type down considerably), without medical coverage, and subsequently puts us on the street? They are still building small strip malls around here, a few of which can't even get tenants.

Obama is losing ground in the polls. I am not sure if some are getting "buyers remorse" or if the Acorn thing is starting to gain traction.
Either way, it shows this is not over until November 4.

So they say on cable today...apparently, it's not enough to be single digits ahead of McBush, since there are many factors playing here and many people will not admit that they won't vote for an African American and lie (the "Bradley effect"). And there is always that pesky 3-5% spread on accuracy as well.

Obama will have to go into double digits everywhere, and we will have to work harder, to get his lead way up. But don't forget--these polls are to land-lines, not cell phones.
  • Charles2 · 1 year ago
FiveThirtyEight.com believes this poll to be an outlier and that Obama maintains a good lead - high single to low double-digits.

    But - No Complacency!

It's refreshing to read something that looks beyond the "lack of experience" that the repugs are touting. We've seen what our "experience" leaders are capable of over the last 8 years and, personaly, I don't think that type of experience has helped us as a country one little bit. Obama has experience in other areas. Areas that are needed and have been ignored during these last two terms.

As far as the racial thing is concerned, its going to rear it's ugly head, so yes, Obama must increase his lead in order to overcome this bigotry. I'm sure he's capable of doing just that...

The Washington Post laments the "thin resume" of Obama, yet we know more about him since 2004 than we do about the Avon Lady (and what we know about her lies and corruption overshadows everything else). We also know A LOT about the dying ember that is John McCain, and it ain't pretty...his soul is black with corruption, anger, and psychotic behavior. There isn't enough Maybelline in the world to cover up the ugliness that is McCain/Palin. I say we know what we need to know about Obama: his behavior under stress, his organizational skills, his diplomacy with "Joe the Plumber" (and even McShame) excel over ol' Gramps' crossing-the-aisle rhetoric (which isn't hard to do given the embarrassment of the Bush years). It's also amazing to watch the slow ephanies of the conservatives in this same realization; Astounding that lock steppin' political religiosity can cloud common sense.
