Finally., the press and the voters are catching on to Hillary and her overstatement (over touted) experience. She has credibility issues and they are not small "misspoke" issues.

Pentagon: Inventory ordered of all U.S. nukes

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates has formally ordered the Air Force, Navy and Defense Logistics Agency to conduct an inventory of all U.S. nuclear weapons and nuclear weapon-related materials to make sure all items are accounted for, according to a Pentagon memo released Thursday.
    art.robert.gates.afp.gi.jpg

Defense Secretary Robert Gates orders an inventory of all U.S. nuclear weapons and related materials.

The order comes in the wake of the discovery last week that four nuclear warhead fuses were accidentally shipped to Taiwan in 2006.

Gates' memo, issued Wednesday, calls for all items to be accounted for by serial number.

Pentagon officials said at a news conference Tuesday that Gates would call for the review in addition to a full investigation into how the shipment to Taiwan from a Defense Logistics Agency warehouse happened 18 months ago.

What great responses, and I'm glad Obama didn't throw Jeremiah Wright under the bus.

How would whites feel if they couldn't run for office simply because they, their preacher, or someone in their family, uttered the "n" word from time to time? Or called Latinos "spics" or worse or uttered all kinds of derogatory names about those of another ethicity? Why, we probably wouldn't have10% of the elected officials in this country we already have.

Colombia seizes 60lb of depleted uranium

Colombia's government has claimed that Leftist rebels were plotting to make a "dirty" radiological bomb after security agents seized 60 lb of low-grade depleted uranium.

The radioactive material was found buried by the side of a main road near Bogota, the capital.

The seizure comes weeks after the Colombian air force bombed a guerrilla camp in Ecuador, killing Raul Reyes, the "public face" of the Farc revolutionary group.
    advertisement

The government claimed that three computers seized after the raid showed that the guerillas were looking to acquire uranium in order to make a dirty bomb.

While depleted uranium cannot be used to make a nuclear weapon, it could be mixed with explosives to spread radiological material.

The government also said the computers showed that Venezuela and Ecuador were supporting the Farc.

Condoleezza Rice today entered the race debate that has been a simmering undercurrent of the presidential campaign when she said it had been "important" for Barack Obama to give his landmark speech on race and defended the patriotism of African Americans.

The US secretary of state also decried the "birth defect" of slavery that she said has left Americans struggling to confront racism.

Wow, you are the little gossip monger aren't you. About 99 percent of your posts are about unfounded anti-Obama smears you find on some wacko web site or just make up out of whole cloth.

I don't think this is true -- unless they plan on having someone play piano during the cabinet meetings.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Obama, IMHO, is the first candidate in years to have the ability to speak like a president should speak. I am more than willing to give him a shot at the presidency for many reasons, but it is his ability to speak TO and WITH people instead of talking to us like we are a bunch of morons. There are many other reasons I like the guy, but this ability of his rates high on my list.

Condi Rice making a VP pitch?

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke at a breakfast today of powerful economic conservatives in Washington, say The Huffington Post and The Washington Note. They speculate Rice is courting conservatives to position herself as a possible vice presidential pick of Sen. John McCain.

But to arm the Afghan forces that it hopes will lead this fight, the American military has relied since early last year on a fledgling company led by a 22-year-old man whose vice president was a licensed masseur.

With the award last January of a federal contract worth as much as nearly $300 million, the company, AEY Inc., which operates out of an unmarked office in Miami Beach, became the main supplier of munitions to Afghanistan’s army and police forces.

It sure smells like it, something VERY stinky about a 22 year old kid getting $300 million in defense contracts when he sells 40 year old munitions (scrap metal) to the US Gov. Who ok'ed this, who got kickbacks? I think this is bigger than cunningham, Bush should be in jail.

Condi needs to just go away and reflect and repent of the disasters she's inflicted on this country. WORST Sec. of State ever....and she preceded that by being the WORST national security adviser ever.

    not that its anything new...

["In our fifth year in the war in Iraq," according to Alan Grayson, the attorney for whistle-blowers, "the Bush administration has not litigated a single case against any war profiteer under the False Claims Act." This at a time, Grayson told a congressional committee, when "billions of dollars are missing and many billions more wasted." Grayson knows what he is talking about. He represented the whistle-blowers in the Custer Battles case brought under the False Claims Act—a case in which the Justice Department refused to get involved, and the only one that has gone to trial.]

"Because the — all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those — changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be — or closer delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled." --explaining his plan to save Social Security, Tampa, Fla., Feb. 4, 2005

The scariest moment in Obama's interview on "The View" was when Sherry Shepherd (arguably one of America's dumbest women, prone to making idiotic comments of historic proportions every few weeks or so) said that she had just switched from supporting Hillary to supporting Obama. And she volunteered to come campaign for him. Oh nooo!

I need to comment that anyone who has not yet read "Dreams from my Father" by Barack Obama needs to run to a bookstore or Amazon.com or your local library as fast as you can and get it. What a great book! So beautifully written that it is simply enchanting. His description of the lives of his parents and grandparents go into so much detail that it shows he has a remarkable understanding of their lives, black and white, and the situations they found themselves in. His chapter on the time his dad (whom he never remembered seeing) came to visit for a month is one of the most poignant and ultimately fantastic things I have ever read. This book is a MUST read. Absolutely remarkable. (It also goes into detail about how he met Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and saw the great things his church was doing for people in his community...)

I was glued to the tv set, and thought that Obama was just spectacular.
It is a pity he has to constantly deal with the kitchen sink tactics thrown at him
on a daily basis, because it prevents his brilliance from being seen.
When I watched him speak, it made me realize, more than ever, that we need
someone like him to unite, and represent this country. The present occupant in the WH seems like a rambling imbecile, compared to Obama. I wish he would go on more shows like this, since it brings out a more relaxed candidate, joking, and able to explain his policies, and brings out the brilliance in him.

I forgot to add this tidbit to my post on AEY Inc.
It's obvious the kid was selling scrap munitions to the US Gov for millions, he even has a listing at one of the worlds largest scrap metal dealers website, or at least until they get around to scrubbing it ( i have cached it ).

Measured_Response, I heard this story yesterday on Abrahms (I think). Supposedly this company shipped munitions bought from China that was made in the 70s! They had a picture of it too and a lot of the bullets looked corroded.

    LunaStick,

This whole story makes me sick to high heaven. There are so many things wrong with tax payers shelling out $300 million for basically junk munitions from a 22 year old kid. WTF, who is minding the store. The DOD biggest cry is that the munitions were from China, never mind they are junk, never mind a 22 year old kid burned them for $300 million .......
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I agree, Nigel. That will probably happen. But it does not negate what Dean has done in comparing the two campaign equally and saying that the FL & MI delegates will be seated without re-votes.
These are not the actions of a leader, especially as we are about to regain the Dem party from the g*d 'centrists.'
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    mirth,

Howard Dean is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Hillary's campaign has been playing hardball with him. I think he is just doing his job--trying to be impartial and let the voters decide nominee...which we have: it's Obama '08, baby. ;-)
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Yeah. Rock 'n a Hard Place. That's when we need leaders. And Dean ain't one.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Thanks for this, because I sure wasn't going to watch it.

    On another note:

    To hell with Howard Dean!
He spreads the blame evenly between Clinton and Obama for the divisiveness in the Dem part.y, saying we shouldn't be hearing about Clinton's (non)actions in Bosnia? Then how else, Howard, are we to judge her "experience" and her character?
Someone wrote earlier that the Dem party realignment we are now experiencing from the "centrist" DLC back to our principles, is necessary and should have taken place years ago. I agree, and for it to happen Dean should be replaced. What a g'damn disappointment he has been.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Uh-oh, Dean pissed mirth off. Big mistake! :-)
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Nigel,

    Oh hell yeah!

Painting the Hillary camp and the Obama camp with the same brush?
And he'll seat the FL & MI delegates? Without a re-vote?

    Gawddamnit!
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Don't worry yourself, mirth. These are the last gasps of a dying campaign. The Democrats will unite in a few weeks and pull the plug on Hillary's campaign.
