Good speech. Not as good as Hillary's last night but it was very important in the things he said.

I cry every time Bill Clinton speaks. The man was born to talk in front of large audiences.

Hell yes! What a pleasure to see him speak!
I liked what Kerry had to say, too. He'll never come off as supernatural as Clinton, but it was cute when Kerry accidentally called McCain, "Bush"--Ha! fitting, too!
Our guys are so much smarter and Kerry has longtime integrity--the crowd, the faithful responded. He really pointed out how McCain can't keep his positions straight and has become a SELL-OUT. Good to point that out in detail!

Bill, Bill, Bill! You lovable bastard! Why weren't you on the stump for the last two months saying all these deep-fried and honeyed words about Obama, instead of squandering your reputation and much of the post-primary momentum that Obama could have enjoyed?

Bubba just hit it out of the park!!!
DAB

Bill knocked it out of the park. He can only speak as someone who HAS been president of the entire country, not just a party candidate who wants to be (hence, I think, the difference between what he accomplished and what Hillary accomplished the night before). I'm starting to think they thought this through very well -- whatever happens in November, this convention will have many people remembering that instead of obstructing Obama at the DNC08, they practically anointed him.

I will call you tomorrow before I leave, LOL I am not about to put my cell phone number on public display. We are meeting over on Alemeda at 1:00pm and being bussed to the stadium. I have no idea what I will put on, I am holding out for an Obama/Biden shirt and they seem to be scarce right now.

Easy go to MSNBC. I'd rather listen to Olbermann and Maddow any day.
SOMEONE needs to tell Chris Matthews to comb his hair. We get it, Chris... you are working hard out in the elements now comb your hair and get some "Final Net." We are supposed to believe there are no make-up artists working on him? PUH-leeze. I can just hear that blow hard to make-up, "Okay, plenty of eye liner but let my hair look natural and wind whipped!"

LOL I was there and believe me, at every break there is a gal attending to Matthews but now that I think about it NO touched his hair, at least on the two days I was there. He must like the "natural look". BTW in person his hair is like snow white, don't know why it comes across as kind of yellowish on TV

Good stuff, here. I've ripped him often enough, so I have to give credit where credit is due. Good to hear him highlight the readiness issue as well as the Bush's third Term knock.
vkobaya
Yeah, I agree. I still don't like him but I think Bill Clinton hit this one out of the park. I was impressed as I was looking for him to hold something back the way I thought Hillary did. But he really sounded sincere ... though I doubt it. Also was stunned by Kerry's speech. He would have won in 2004 if he had had the courage to be the attack dog that he was tonight. And nothing that was exaggerated or lies, but everything the honest truth about Bush, McCain and the Republicans. That was the Kerry that was the hero returned from Vietnam and gutty enough to stand in front of the Winter Soldiers' Meeting and speak the truth. No, wouldn't he have won in 2004, he would have swamped Bush and the entire Repiglican party. He ran the worst campaign and yet Bush had to resort to massive voter fraud to beat him.
I think the exit polls in Ohio alone showed massive voter fraud, 50,000-100,000 votes switched to say nothing of voter suppression and throwing away ballots in Democratic precincts. That is why Obama has to win by a massive, massive margin that it is unquestionable that he won and not even KKKarl Rove can dare dispute it. It's possible since polls show the Democrats are going to eat the Republicans alive in other races.

God is answering the prayer of all the Evangelicals for a natural disaster during the Democratic Convention. God decided to go ahead and have one during a "convention" but chose the REPUBLICAN convention to drive home the message He doesn't like Republicans who PRAY AGAINST their fellow Americans. Its a message from God He is getting tired of Focus on the Family trying to tell Him what to do about the "homasexicals."
Also, God let the name be "Gustav" to send an "illegal immigrant" crashing into the borders of America to highlight the Republicans un-Christian approach to illegal immigration.
Furthermore, can you imagine the howls of "See, we told you so?!!?" if the shoe were on the other foot? Lets do just what they would do. This HURRICANE is a message from God he is trying to destroy the Republican Party!

Remember when Jeb Bush sold us those faulty pumps?
Is it me? Am I the only one who thinks Chuck Todd just pulls shit out of his ass to sound relevant and play devil's advocate? I'm sorry, but I don't think Todd is the brightest bulb... I find it hard to believe he is the "political" head honcho at MSNBC. Some of the stuff he says is absurd. Todd tries really hard to come up with "memes" and they fall flat or sound ridiculous. He was just trying to say Democrats would use Obama's pick of Biden as a tacit acknowledgement Obama is not ready to be Commander in Chief. Well, they could use that "meme" if they want to get blown out of the water. They better come up with something better than the very logical argument Clinton just made as to why we SHOULDN'T be voting for ANY Republican.

That was a return of the John Kerry of 1972. The guy in 2004 was the pod person.
The Republicans are in deep, deep, deep steer manure. The Democrats with a few exceptions have hit one home run after another in their speeches. These were jump up and scream speeches. I had heard and I agreed that the after convention bump would not happen as the convention is too obviously a dog and pony show. Wow! Wow! Wow! I wish more dog and pony shows were this exciting. And I still don't believe in Obama, am voting for him just because he isn't McCain and isn't a neocon Repiglican. But given the tenor of the speeches at the Democratic convention, he may not have a choice but to be a good progressive, liberal president ... a historically great, great, great president.
Actually, though if the Democrats were as liberal as these speeches make them seem, our candidate would be Kucinich with Gavel as his vice president.

From an ad I saw from one of McCain's old campaign, I'm not so sure she'd be willing to "fight for her son's honor"... she kept looking at ole Johnny like he was a tool for making her do an ad for him.... the body language was not one of a close relationship... and she would not make eye contact with him at all.

Fine speech by Clinton, and I liked Biden's uneven, punchy speech. Made him sound like a regular guy. I think maybe he'll be able to bring home some votes for Obama from the Joe Sixpacks of the country. Kerry was good, too, and an important example for people to see.

I would be more interested in seeing if Joe Biden shows Jull the respect to not always be running well ahead of her as John McCain always seems to do in relation to poor Cindy. Cindy can't bring herself to wear sensible shoes, but she needs them to keep up with John, who seems to physicalaly signal that he really wishes he was not married to that particular woman. The wax job just isn''t cutting it.

John Kerry--the best speech of the night. Some are saying, well, why didn't he do that in 2004? But they don't notice that he did it for someone else tonight. In 2004 no one did it for him. Even Democrats were piling up on him, like mob pyschology on the playground. Bless him for it, and keep it up, Senator Kerry, because you will need to, until November 4. How lucky Obama is to have him for an ally and friend.

I LOVED Biden's line ripping Cheney:
"No longer will the eight most dreaded words in the English language be 'The vice president's office is on the phone.'"
Biden was flat....not his usual self and the audience seemed flat as well. Michelle looked sad and distracted most of the evening although she did seem more perky when Biden came on. What's up with that is she tired? Not feeling well? Overwhelmed? She lit up like a firecracker when Obama came on stage. Perhaps she just misses him. Hope she's ok.

Looks like Biden thinks he can explain why no airliner parts were found at the Pentagon. Can't wait to find out what he knows. Gonna be more interesting to get his version as to why there were no bodies recovered in Pennsylvania. I was pretty happy up until that moment when he told us the official version of who attacked us on 9/11.

Yeah we are united! Big time. Bill Clinton exceeded every expectation I had and I couldn't be happier. I felt like I had just ended a long-standing fued with a "formerly" beloved family member. I hate no liking you, and will grab any chance you give me to love you again. Bill Clinton threw me a life-saver. If his future words/actions continue to enforce his words tonight, I can't wait to love him again. Thanks for the hope, Bill.
As for Barack and Joe. What a fucking amazing and historic night. I've been in tears on and off all night. Joe's son, Beau, was incredible. I just could. not. be. prouder of our our Democratic party and our country.

Saw David Brooks on PBS recommend Joe Lieberman as McSame's VP. Brooks saw it as the only smart pick to one-up Biden as Obama's pick. Mittens apparently is toast to the punditcrats. If Lieberman is it, my question is: Whatever happened to the Lamont campaign's "THE KISS" float? McCain could choose Joe Lie as early as Friday morning. It would be SO COOL if the float could be there to meet the Rethugs in Minneapolis/St. Paul on Monday. Double the message that McCain is Bush plus four more years with the image of Joe giving W a full lip on lip smacker. That will be the next bumbersticker on my truck, next to the one showing Bush hugging McCain. Gotta spread that Man on Man GOP LOVE!

I am very disappointed with Bil Clinton's speech. Here is what he said:
"Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world. Ready to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States."
He had an opportunity to say Obama is ready to be commander in chief. He didn't do it. He had an opportunity to say Obama would protect the United States. Instead he qualified it with "Constitution". God I hate the Clintons.
I am just amazed at how naive all my fellow Democrats are. The Clintons have succesfully pulled the wool over their eyes. And if it comes to it I'm sure the same people who said they will never forgive the Clintons will vote for Billary in '12.
Upland_Oddball

I haven't been very kind to the Clintons since they went negative and Rovian months ago, but what BIll and Hillary did on stage was as good as it gets. Ultimately, it is up to Barack to convince the public that he can take on the job as commander in chief. He needs to remind Americans that he is as qualified as another senator from Illinois, Abreham Lincoln. The only difference between the two is that in Lincoln's own words, the mosquitoes ate him up and gave hiim all the war wounds and war memories he acquired from his brief military stint. Maybe Obama was equally eaten up by ferocious Indonesian mosquitoes and can claim equal military experience with this nation's greatest wartime president.

Clintonhater, your'e right about the choice of words. I didn't even think about that. When he first came on, I was prepared to disagree vehemently & hate everything he said. And try to decipher every bit of the speech.
I got a pleasant surprise though. I think Billy Boy did a good job. He emphatically put his support behind Barack. He was believable & gracious & complimentary, & whether he means it in his heart or not, that was good enough for me.
You know how he is, once he gets in front of a crowd & feels that love, he just feeds off that... In any case, he did a damn good job of upstaging her & her speech, which I think he always enjoys doing...;-)
Still don't trust either one of them, but I give him a thumbs up for this one.

He did just enough to deflect any criticism and to help his wife's chances in '12. I think with some of the criticism of his wife's speech for not saying he is ready to be commander-in-chief, Bill had to address it in some way in his speech. But he avoided saying Obama will protect us. Because that is what it is all about, Obama being ready to protect the American people. And he tried his best to say Obama is ready without actually saying Obama is ready to protect us.
