AMERICAblog: Wednesday Morning Open Thread

I'm like, OK, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door ... And if there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door.
  • LeeFromHamburgNY · 1 year ago
and don't let that door hit you in the ass on the way out...

She's the stealth candidate of the dominionist movement, Joel's Army, the ones wanting to take over this "christ-centered" country. These people are extremely, extremely, dangerous.

I mentioned this quote yesterday..... she has the valley girl vote locked up, that's for sure!!!
  • JohnRJ08 · 1 year ago
Hey, easy there, buddy. I live in the "valley" and have never met a Valley Girl as ignorant as Palin.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Hopefully, that door is a closet.

LMAO. Either that or Barnes and Noble !
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
She would be overwhelmed having so many books and so many decisions to make as to which ones to ban. I guess she's on her own since the direct line to her god is on hold.
  • RIPWAMU · 1 year ago
Another well constructed sentence. When I heard this I had to ponder - can she not add 12 + 4 ?

    Good morning...

The media's obsession with Palin is tiring....why are they wasting time on this nitwit. Enough already.
  • WDemDem · 1 year ago
Couldn't agree more, grandma. I really thought we were done listening to the constant droning and whining and the "poor me" syndrome. And now about how the media could have defended her honor by reporting the truth about her. Does she not understand the irony in that statement considering she didn't give a crap about the lies she spewed for 2 months about President-elect Obama?
  • triple7s · 1 year ago
I think the point is entertainment. Doesn't matter if it's Palin or Tina Fey. It's Palin the CHARACTER, not Palin as a viable politician.
  • Lush_Rimbaud · 1 year ago
Palin "fibbed" to Matt Lauer. She implied that she was insulted that Katie Couric asked her what she read up there in Alaska. In fact, Couric never mentioned Alaska; it was Palin that mentioned it rather defensively in the interview when she realized she had no answer. And of course, Lauer let her get away with it. Transcript follows:

Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?

Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

    Couric: What, specifically?

Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.

Couric: Can you name a few?

Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, "Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?" Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

If Palin ever runs for national office in the future, this sound byte is going to be replayed over and over again. And the RNC knows it. Just shocking stupidity.

Someone has told Palin to "strike while the iron is hot" but that's all there is to it. What is she supposed to talk about for four years? Her Nobel Prize winning work on the philosophy of good governance? Is she going to employ the media to talk about how awful the media is for four years? It's beyond silly already. It's soooo Republican.

    Palin -------------------------------> DEAD END

People like Palin just say whatever will get them what they want (usually approval, power and money). "Partisan" is a "bad thing," so of course, Palin is not partisan, according to her. The stuff that's "bad" is usually exactly what they ARE, but being very obvious big fat liars doesn't bother them - or their supporters.

This is because people like Palin believe in nothing. I mean, say what you will about the tenets of traditional conservatism, at least it's an ethos. These babbling, amoral nihilist fuckwits are something else entirely.

Andrew writes to Jack Cafferty: Who cares about Sarah Palin?

There are two reasons: 1) She’s attractive. For better or for worse, people listen when pretty girls talk, no matter what nonsense may come out of their mouths.

    2) Incompetence, by itself, is not entertaining. However, when the incompetent are supremely self-confident, full of certitude, and absent of insight, it’s absolutely compelling.

  • JohnRJ08 · 1 year ago
I wrote my opinion about this to Jack Cafferty, too. I said that Sarah Palin is like a TV 'reality' series. The shock value comes from not knowing what will come out of her mouth next. She is completely unpredictable, which is what reality is all about, right. And the fear factor is there because she might actually run for national office some day and, with the help of the lowest common denominators in our country, she could win. Now that's something to fear. She's a sure ratings winner. Personally, I don't think she's qualified to have Vanna White's job.

I'm surprised I haven't seen an article on Americablog talking about the "emergency loans" the fed gave to banks (some places indicate to the tune of trillions of dollars) and their stonewalling on revealing the collateral and recipients.

This is an issue we all should be very concerned about. I know Prop H8 has most of us occupied, and it should, but don't forget that billions (perhaps trillions) of our tax dollars are being given away, with no accountability or oversight.

  • ComradeRutherford · 1 year ago
"She lives in a world of make-believe. But, if the GOP thinks she's the future for the party"

The GOP has always lived in fantasy land. Since before Reagan, since Barry Goldwater, really. Rush Limbaugh and the rest of right-wing hate radio perpetrate stupifyingly obvious lies and their willfully ignorant listeners gladly push reality aside and eagerly believe anything they are told. Republicans hate reality, as it's well known that reality has a Liberal bias.

Ronald Reagan hated reality, too. And when the Acting-President rules over us for 8 years while living in a non-existent fantasy land, the people of the US feel comfortable believing the most outlandish lies.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Palin is so much like Bush....blaming the media and everyone else...instead of saying "Yes, I made the mistakes, I accept responsibility for that".....how much more honest that would have been.

Forget Palin - I hope that Obama is as bold in his cabinet selections as he's been throughout his campaign.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
I wonder if she knows that that most people are laughing at her. She thinks she's clearing up any misconceptions we have of her. Ha. The more she opens her mouth, the more idiotic she sounds. You betcha.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Do you really know why the MSM is letting this moron get away with this?

Because, like Palin, they're also a bunch of self-absorbed narcissists who like to hear themselves talk. Don't forget how they all swallowed the lies of the Bush regime and pro-actively pushed his agenda. They, too, trained the same way Palin did, in front of the teleprompter and audiences...
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Matt Lauer seems to be batting with the republicans more often than not and hasn't really accepted the fact that the democrats won this round. His pandering is beyond disgusting.
  • dommyluc · 1 year ago
If Begich pulls of a victory against Stevens, I want to see the look on Palin's face. You just KNOW she's licking her chops at the chance to go to the Senate, although i think she will be eaten alive by the Dems in an election, and if she did make it to the Senate, her incompetence will destroy her - FINALLY! Chris Kofinas compared her to Sanjaya - she just won't go away, no matter how awful she is, because people are fascinated by her vapid stupidity. I can only pray that the gods of politics anoint her as the new satndard bearer of the Republican Party. Oh, please! I promise I'll be a good boy! It would be the best Xmas gift EVER!

Yes, to Sarah in 2012! I'm looking for a pro-Palin button to wear. What a boon for Dems.

Sanjaya is far more intelligent and talented than that bimbo.
  • dommyluc · 1 year ago
No, that is where I think you are wrong. I am sure Sarah could acquit
herself quite well as a talented star of bondage/domination porn.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Perhaps, that is why she will not let anyone look into her clothes closet. It might reveal her leather Dominatrix outfits.

We also, need to check her husband's back for the whip marks. Just look into her eyes when she speaks; there is a ton of anger trying to be contained in her "doll-baby" face.

let's keep pointing out how divorced from reality the Palin bunch is.
thank GAWD we now have an adult in charge.

the MO of the limbpalls, hannity, o'reilly, palin faction is to do whatever nasty thing they think will win for them, and then call it patriotic, noble, salt of the earth, genuine American, baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and mom. i am so sick of them hijacking the truth.

    and good morning!
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Matt's career is crumbling like a stale cookie. He's scrambling for a spotlight, any spotlight. He isn't welcome to come back to Orlando to do the evening weather, that spot is taken. He hasn't got entree into the White House and isn't likely to get any. The next round of travels is not going to be "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?" it's going to be "Where in the World is Our Cast?" Matt's out, I bet Katie Couric doesn't invite him to dinner parties even. Even Meredith's been lobbing wisecracks at him this week.

You can go away now, Matt.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Palin said in one interview, that she would be comfortable with Obama as Commander in Chief if he surrounds himself with qualified people (like George W. Bush did? but I digress).

Well she may be comfortable but all those gullible people who swallowed all the McCain Palin lies and distortions aren't. The still think Obama is not a patriot, is a Muslim, in not a US citizen, is a terrorist, is a socialist, a communist. Is dangerous and reckless.

Thanks John and Sarah for putting the President elect into a deep hole.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
You mean the kind of "qualified people" she herself is surrounded with, like Todd? I sure as hell hope not.

Mark Foley, ( remember him and the pageboy scandal? ) is back in the news.
"Even today, two years after Mark Foley's very public fall from grace, the former congressman can't explain why he sent lurid, sexually explicit computer messages to male teens who had worked as Capitol Hill pages." Comcast News

Well, I can, he's an hebephile. If he hasn't figured that out in the past two years of banishment, he's hopeless. One can not blame it on his ETOH problem. All drinking does is lower his inhibitions and we see the real person under that veneer of respectability.
  • JohnRJ08 · 1 year ago
Palin is too dim to realize that her greatest appeal as a candidate was to rabid partisans. Doesn't matter what she thinks she is. The next few months are going to be very interesting. The very last thing the RNC wants is a divided party, and Sarah Palin's continued involvement in national politics will cut the Republican Party right down the middle. The RNC knows that it will never win another national election unless it can attract younger, more moderate conservatives. Those people will never accept a pro-life creationist as a candidate, much less someone who thinks they have foreign policy experience because they can see Russia from their kitchen. At some point in time, Sarah Palin is going to get a call or a visit from the head of the RNC, asking her to butt out of national politics. Another four years of experience isn't going to make her more intelligent or moderate. "Change" is not in her pocket dictionary. Listen to this woman speak. She makes the Village Idiot sound like Winston Churchill.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
and the best part is, when she does get the call or visit from the RNC, she's going to tell them..."oh the Lord has blessed me and told me to bust right on through the next door, so me....? quit now? and disappoint our Lord, thanks but no thanks!"

Sarah Palin gives professional women a bad name!! She is so ambitious even to the detriment of the person she was running with. I was a single working mother for over 30 years and raised two children on my own. I do not agree with any of her positions on the issues!! She has the audaciousness of a less than intelligent person. She couldn't (or wouldn't) even answer the question about what publications/magazines she reads. Does this sound like a thinking person who feels like she has something to contribute to the national scene? Sarah, go back to Alaska until you have grown up and become more informed on all of the issues - not just those that you know about in Alaska! I think John McCain would have had a much better shot with a different woman as his running mate (like Kay Bailey Hutchinson).
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
She talks like a snotty little high school girl. I saw her on Greta and that was a complete joke as usual. She can't cook worth a damn. She's nothing more than a baby factory with a dumb husband being let by the nose.

Why do liberals and Democrats love to throw around the word "partisan." I hardly think they know what it means anymore - "partisan partisan partisan." Saying that someone is "palling around with terrorists" is a statement that shows Obama's lack of judgement when it comes to his own associates. Is it the wrong language to use? Probably. Is it a low blow? Yes. Is it the truth that Bill Ayers and Obama were friends? Probably. It is not, however, particularly partisan in the fact that it shows bias when it comes to policies - which should be the issues at hand.

Palin's record in Alaska does show that she is largely bipartisan when it comes to major issues. Yet one verbal insult on the Obamessiah and she is the most partisan person in the world. I know it comes as a shock to most of you that anyone would question the integrity of "the one," but maybe someone should - SINCE HE WILL BE RUNNING THE COUNTRY! Sadly though, I guess campaign rallies (and things said at them) are the only thing that Obama supporters can really relate to - as his campaign is the biggest accomplishment of his entire career.

    Wackos.

WTF with Lauer... the TODAY show was the McCain show all through the election... can McCain recover? What can McCain do now? Is Palin the future of the GOP? BLAH BLAH BLAH. I didn't say anything during the election cause, ok, they needed equal coverage of Dems and Dorks... but dude, THE ELECTION IS OVER... and I am TIRED of seeing the McCain show in the morning.... hell if they like 'em that much, hire Palin to replace Lauer... that'll keep SNL loaded with material for the next 100 years! SHUT UP MATT!! And stop with the Couric slams... heaven knows I have never been a Couric lover, but props to the woman for exposing an effin disaster... her interviews were fair... Palin said this morning that perhaps her impatience showed in her interviews.... WRONG WORD.... it was your STUPIDITY! Now go away!!
  • CarolAl · 1 year ago
Now that the restraints of the campaign staff are off, poor Sarah is all too anxious to speak out and speak up in an effort to redeem herself . Ever notice how whenever she is unscripted, Run-on Sentence Sarah strings together key words and phrases? They are recycled briefing session talking points strung together by folksy and often religion-based colloquialisms. Always Ambious Sarah hopes to salvage her reputation for a future role in the GOP. She has the potential to become the savior of the far right-wing of the GOP, the model conservative woman-- attractive, baby-maker, sharp-tongued airhead. And there lies the problem--the more she talks, the dumber she sounds.

Matt, Greta, Charlie, Sean, Katie, Palin has become irrelevent. We don't care anymore. Even a train wreck becomes boring after a while.

Sarah, won't you please go away? You're embarrassing yourself.

I pray Palin is the Republican candidate in 2012, too. So Obama will win easy re-election.
