I suggest they just put Tina Fey in. She seems very bright.

I've noticed that the local tv anchors are now calling it a "rescue" package instead of a bailout. The propaganda push begins.

Terrorism against a mosque in Dayton Ohio, after the hateful anti Islamic DVD was distributed. American terrorists are raising their heads. Ignorance and bigotted minds, the dumbing down of America.

Apparently Caribou Barbie thinks homosexuality is a choice. I think Todd, her husband, really ought to yank her in off the road right now and send her back to the seventh grade for some retraining. This girl should not even be allowed to run a PTA.
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
Funny the things she thinks are "choice" and which aren't.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Oh I don't think this little airhead Barbie thinks. She saw that attending a
white trash church could garner votes. She's just another pretty faced
puppet in Karl Rove's Punch and Judy show.

    Good morning

Tom Brokaw, if not stopped, will do his best to sabotage Barack Obama during the next debate. Mediamatters.org and moveon are already on it.

    Update:

Sarah Palin has memorized 32 of the 50 state capitals so far.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
And she knows the names of almost 40 states now.

'Course, if they ask any questions about any Supreme Court case before or since Roe v. Wade, things could get messy.

Morning Joe was going on and on earlier....blaming the economic mess on Clinton's housing act ...

    Media Matters:

Several conservatives in the media have recently blamed the Community Reinvestment Act for the current financial crisis -- when, in fact, the CRA does not apply to institutions making the vast majority of troubled loans underlying the crisis. It applies only to depository institutions, such as banks and savings and loan associations. Experts have estimated that 80 percent of high-priced subprime loans were offered by financial institutions that are not subject to the CRA.

    Digby:

This is one of the foundations of conservative tribe dogma: the other tribe is trying to take your hard earned money and give it to the dark skinned others.

    Breakfast TV Braying Heads:

One dominant theme emerged in the first hour: why are dark-skinned people afflicting real, normal Americans so much?

    1. Gwen Ifill. When Doocy keeps using the phrase "It's extraordinary that..." you know he's trying to stop himself from blowing a gasket. And it is extraordinary that the Debate Commission would select Ifill, when she has just written a book celebrating African-American progress, and one whole chapter celebrates Obama. How dare she! And didn't the Commission do their homework?! She stands to make a lot of money on the remote chance that Obama wins, so she's definitely in the tank for him. Expect her to be very, very mean to our beloved Sarah! She won't have any objectivity, so she'll cut Sarah off before she has had a chance to fill up her 90 seconds. It's, well, extraordinary. In case Fox and Friends viewers didn't know who Ifill was, there were numerous shots of her juxtaposed with pictures of a mean looking Obama. It turns out, and this is extraordinary, how very black they are.

    2. Ohio voters. How dare Ohio allow voters, all of whom were shown in stock footage to be African-American, to vote early and on the spot. They could be anybody, really, dragged out of bus depots, abuse and homeless shelters, and even college dorms! It's extraordinary! What is Ohio thinking, liberalizing the right to vote. It's a privilege to vote, otherwise it's just chaos and fraud! Gretchen pointed out that the WHOLE election could come down to Ohio, so expect it to be contested, just like Florida in 2000. It means Cindy McCain might have more time to select her Inaugural Ball gown, though.

    3. Minority homeowners. Joe remembered his pre-dead intern days when Bill Clinton, and it's all ALWAYS his fault, in 1999 allowed poor minorities to get cheap 'n easy loans to get into the housing market. If they hadn't we wouldn't be in the mess we're in right now. Why didn't he exercise some control? No one else mentioned Andrea Mitchell's husband during Joe's impassioned rant, because that would have just complicated matters. No, it's people getting all uppity and living beyond their means.

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah! yes, she doesn't read books and magazines and newspapers. And that's kinda embarrassing (Mika just wanted to go to commercial when this was brought up). But only pointy-headed poindexters do, anyway. So no biggie. And she's getting her game face on with Randy Scheunemann on the ranch, learning all about Shock-gosh-vee-lee and stuff, so Biden will be knocked off his heels (and Dick Morris pointed out how much Biden always gets a free pass from his buds in the liberal media for all his gaffes). All of which means: Willow Palin, sweetie, look at your cool new Observatory Circle in-home theater so you, and your friends, can watch Gossip Girls in HD!!!

NY Times: Palin confident, but often vague

Ms. Palin was not always at her best when questioned by her opponents in the governor’s race.

In the AARP debate, Mr. Knowles and Andrew Halcro, an independent, double-teamed her to press her about how she would pay for health care

Mr. Halcro called her answer “political gibberish.”

The repressed rage is oozing to the surface with the Des Moines Register staff. This should go viral today. Incidentally, he's down 10 points in Iowa, so it's no wonder he's being pissy...

He also has a REAL problem being challenged by women (no male questioners on the clip).

Good: it's up at TPM, with Josh Marshall's remarks. It should be everywhere by the end of the day.

After Andersen Cooper caught Sarah fibbing about seeing Russia from Alaska I'm hoping Ifill asks her about that one! After all of the ridicule regarding the Alaska/Russia view fest, to have it exposed as a lie, can it get any worse?
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Scarborough going on and on about Gwen should not be debate moderator because of her new book coming out...'The Age of Obama'...

What about Tom Brokaw, who lied on Meet the Press this past Sunday about NBC polls favoring McCain at the end of Meet The Press ...and......this in the NY Times: In an interview here after Sunday’s broadcast, Mr. Brokaw said that over the summer he had “advocated” within the executive suite of NBC News to modify the anchor duties of the MSNBC hosts Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews on election night and on nights when there were presidential debates.

Wonder if Scarborough will make a big deal out of the bias of Tom Brokaw seeing as Brokaw is moderator of the next Pres debate.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Just caught the last part of Joe's rant. Bob Shrum had the best answer, McCain's people could accept or refuse the moderator and they accepted Gwen.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Good...I missed what Shrum had to say.

Peter Suderman reacts to news that Palin is " frequently up until the small hours of the morning in her hotel room trying to cram as much information as possible before the debate:"

The fact that she’s studying to be Vice President through all-night cram sessions, as if the campaign were some undergrad final, does not give me hope. This is a position that requires someone who is already comfortable and familiar with the issues, not someone who’s stuffing facts and figures in her head at the last minute and hoping they all come out in the right order.

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Well, damn with all that "executive experience" I wouldn't think she would have to be cramming like some college student. (snark)
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Exactly Grandma! My concern is that the format will be dumbed-down to her level. This should never be. If you're not prepared--don't show up. This is about knowledge and a masterful grasp of the issues that matter. This shouldn't be about being "cute" or "likeable".
  • bacalove · 1 year ago
Banks and businesses which have Regulations are not experiencing any econimic crisis, just the investment banks which are de-regulated or have no regulations or oversight! "One of the regulations meant to keep insiders from driving down the prices of their own company’s stock so that they could sell short at will to make a quick million whenever they felt like it was called the “uptick rule”. The “uptick rule” is another one of the FDR Era regulations which the Heritage Foundations was talking about when they said that they wanted to roll this country back to the days of Herbert Hoover. They succeeded. The Bush administration got rid of this safeguard last year---with predictable results.

The uptick rule is fairly simple. "

Actually, I'm a little concerned about tomorrow's debate. The format has been dumbed-down to fit the debating style of Palin. In tomorrow's format, the debating sytle of "no answer" might be to her advantage. Joe has his hands tied. No exchange between the candidates will be allowed. This means that she can take cheap shots and jabs towards him, that are unacceptable coming from Joe to her.

I've seen this type of debating format, and it makes the least knowledgable look wise and witty! It's a "values oriented" debating style, and the reason she's the Governor of Alaska.

If the narrator asks solid questions, and presses a candidate to answer--Joe Biden wins hands down. We all know Palin is sorely lacking by her interviews with Gibson and Couric. She could only name one major Supreme Court case, her claim to undersand foreign policy based on Alaska's proximity to Russia, her inability to name one source she reads to stay informed on world politica issues etc. Any one of us here could have answered those questions
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
The Dems agreed to this format. Can't say I like it but they could have refused.
  • Chimpeach · 1 year ago
Any American English speaker who drops her g's on present participles sounds ignorant in my opinion. She doesn't read (or can't remember what newspapers she reads), says thinkin', tryin', sayin'. Does she think that's cute and folksy or does she really not know how to speak proper English? Oh also 'ya' instead of 'you'. Shudder material.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
LOL I mentioned that yesterday. Dropping her g's , along with her voice inflections, is driving me crazy. I thought Bush was a terrible speaker but I think after 90 minutes tomorrow Palin may even eclipse Bush's speaking abilities.
  • lilybart · 1 year ago
Now she is calling herself the candidate for Joe Sixpack America. ugh
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
That's it, they think it's cute and folksy. And guess what! It is, to a lot of Americans. I wish the dems hadn't of agreed to a dumbed-down debating format. Make the debate about knowledge of the issues.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago

Just the fact that she has to have all the information in the world crammed into her head by Thur, is enough to disqualify her.

It's like they picked someone off the street to be VP like a reality show.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Having Palin as the VP., is like taking a country bumpkin, putting him in a city, and telling him to run a gigantic company.
