Unless I missed something it appears Obama's new cabinet is comprised of recycled goods. All the old guard from Clinton years, Clinton as SOS is this the new approach group, is this the "change" he promised. The senate is going to do whatever they want the Blue Dogs will vote with the Republicans and after two years of believing that change, just a little, might be in the offing we have the same tired, non creative, old boy's network of refried beans. I know its early, and i will be told to give him a chance but where is the new blood. The parallels with the auto industry are compelling. Watching them on tv yesterday say they struggle with cafe standards for mileage and their whinning is discouraging. The $50 billion will be pissed away and we the taxpayer will be left hold the empty bag. Unless you replace the top tier executives nothing changes since it is in their DNA to keep the status quo. The only reason we need to help is the 3 million people who will be laid off and that will finish America. The republicans see this as an opportunity to get rid of the unions, stop the secret ballot but nothing will change. The Big 3 lack the ability to make smaller more efficient vehicles that are quality and last more than a couple of years and we the people want to buy a new car every two years or so and look trendy, cup holders, wings, all the latest gadgets but get only 22 miles to the gallon. When new ideas and different solutions are put aside to satisfy the people who got us in this mess in the first place nothing will change. Same shit, new day.

(Some wonder how Barack Obama can so easily forgive or be so non-critical.)

Alice Bailey in "Esoteric Psychology II" says there are three characteristics of a server who has made Soul contact.

    1. Harmlessness in thought, acts and speech.

    2. A willingness to let others serve in their own way. This is a big idea! Let others serve as they can without interfering. Why? Because their souls will direct their service, not us. We are to do our service and let others express their service. We help others by standing beside them as they serve, giving them encouragement and opportunities.

    3. Joyfulness which is a quality of the soul.

There is a group of people in the world leading us into this age of service. Alice Bailey calls them the New Group of World Servers. This group of subjective servers has no outer form or organization. There is not even a list of members. They do not know each other by name. Through their service to humanity we recognize them. These individuals are a cross section of all races, religions, nations and organizations concerned with the welfare of humanity. The New Group of World Servers are busy leaders in every field, who mobilize people, resources and ideas forming the new world.

Their mission is inspiring people to believe in the essential oneness of humanity, the One Humanity. Their goal is to attract people of goodwill to work together without fanaticism, hatred, or separatism, to build a new world order. They do not force others to see the new view of the world. Instead, they present clear, concise, understandable ideas that people can identify with and actualize. These ideas, turned into ideals, stimulate all who come into contact with them. People want to join them to work for a better world.

    Bacalove,

I found your post to be very interesting. But when I clicked on the link I didn't find anything more about the "Server" ideas.

I do like the three points though.

Congrats to Begich. Too bad our Democratic majority is a bunch of pussies.

After McCaskill's votes for the bailout, and for Lieberman, I'll be supporting someone else when she comes up for reelection.

Was that last word really necessary?

How about caling them a bunch of 'dicks'?
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Congrats to Begich. Hope he can be effective and not get into the DC muck and mire...

On the bailout for Big Auto, I'm for it to save a potential 3 million jobs attached to it, but not without ground rules, such as lowering pay for execs, not to exceed $400K (the salary of the prez); protecting union workers and not allowing co. officials to hire scabs at half the wages; retooling for higher CAFE standards and alternatives to the combustion engine; firing all current CEOs and VPs who have refused to look at the future of both vehicles and oil--not necessarily in that order.

But do Congressional Dems learn their lessons? Not if the last 8 years are any clue...

But don't take away his gun! Sadly, the country's children are at risk with their own parents in this country as well. There have been 3 or 4 cases of parents killing their own infants in the Charlotte area: one father allegedly beat his own 23 mo old to death; one mother overdosed her 5 yr old on tussin cough syrup; one mother overdosed her 5 yr old on Methadone and oxycontin. All young and poor and ignorant--and this is a non-racial situation. It's just so damned sad.

    Good morning!

Hopefully Franken will join Begich....the recount officially begins today in MN.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune has a poll up this morning:

Will the candidates and voters accept the results of the recount?
    Yes
One side will, one won't: The election will be resolved another way.
    No

Yup Denver is nice and warm (my friends taunted me with 70F weather when I called them last night. Here in MA its only expected to get to 40F - it was 31F last night with a fierce, colder than something in a brass bra wind.

With Begich.we are closer to 60, well 59 + someone I don't trust (no matter what Reid says)
He'll have to do a lot of work to make amends, IMHO - other wise MA isn't too far from Senator Backstabber's state office - a picket and protest at his office I would attend.

LIEberman can start by giving money to Franken and Martin campaigns. If he doesn't, we have an indication on just how sincere his "reform" is.

Good morning! All is well in Lieberman household.

Sullivan had a good post up yesterday......a great idea !!

    Let Exxon Save GM

    Margaret and Helen opine:

So the oil companies are once again boasting record profits and yet the auto makers are asking for some government cheese. Does anyone else see the irony here? So I’ve got a little trickle down theory of my own. As long as Detroit continues to make cars for the Gas-Capades let the oil companies bail them out.

Election Irregularities Surfacing Re: California's Proposition 8!

Big surprise! (NOT). Irregularity seems to be the buzz word for elections in America these past years. When did most of these problems arise? Oh, I don't know ... how about sort of near in time to when computerized voting (i.e., touchscreen) became the majority. PLEASE give me my crayon and paper ballot back!

    Kathleen Parker (apostate):

As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.

Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.

I'm bathing in holy water as I type.

To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.

And they're not going away, as evidenced by Palin's greed for publicity, as well as Mike Huckabee, shilling his book "Do the Right Thing" (what a play on words as well as Spike Lee's movie) on CSPAN this am.

No, these ignoramuses are NOT going away by any means.

To the Congress of the United States of ALL America:
    PICK ONE

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of HETEROSEXUAL America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all HETEROSEXUALS."

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for SOME."

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL."
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
Lets get "god" out of the picture. That fairytale has warped the minds of some many. Here is a better one.

    ------------------------------------------------
"I pledge allegiance to the ideals of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under Peace, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL!!!"
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
    How about a fourth one:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL."

I think that was how the original one went before the McCarthy Hearings and the Congress went religiously rabid on us trying to show they were not Commies and "god forbid", atheist. ;-).

If the republicans are opining about tradition and how life was back in the 50s, perhaps, they should revisit history without the revisionist mentality and spin.

I called the DNC this morning to ask to be removed from every mailing list they have.

AS soon as they heard the word, "Lieberman," I was immediately transferred to the Chairman's office. I expressed my disgust at how Lieberman was forgiven and asked to be removed from all mailing lists--DNC, DSCC, DCCC. If Democrats need my money, they will have to go on their knees begging to DFA, MoveOn, Progresssive Patriots, etc.

I will not support Harry's or Nancy's ineffectual leadership. I can't vote for or against them, but I can withhold my money from them.

good morning and hooray Mark Begich.

i watched 'In the Valley of Elah" last night for the first time...i wonder if George Bush saw it...if he ever does he'll be tormented the rest of his life for sending so many Americans into the hell of war for no good reason.

At the same time, opponents of gay marriage have warned that they will work to oust any justice who votes against Proposition 8, a threat particularly palpable in a year when voters in other states have booted six state high court justices after campaigns by special interest groups.

"It's hilarious: very acerbic and biting," he told the New York Post. "It offends everybody, but does what South Park does best, which is [that] by the end it comes around and has something great to say." Though he didn't reveal details of the plot, or say who else would be starring in the show, Jackson added that it has the working title of Mormon Musical. "I play the main missionary, Elder something," he said.

News of the potentially-controversial project comes at a tough time for the Mormon Church, which is fighting a propaganda war over its role in passing Proposition 8, the ballot measure that outlawed same-sex weddings in California this month. The Church joined a coalition of religious groups supporting the Proposition, and members donated tens of millions of dollars to finance a raft of often-misleading attack adverts, which helped persuade 52.5 percent of the State's electorate to support the measure.

". . . And, I am so over the media's obsession with where the Obama girls are going to school. . . "

I would think that telling the whole world where Obama's girls are going to be attending school would be a security threat. Nice job media.

Two members of Connecticut's Democratic state central committee, Audrey Blondin and Myrna Watanabe, said they'll still ask Connecticut's top Democrats to consider a resolution repudiating Lieberman for publicly backing McCain. It also would ask him to resign from the party.

''Ultimately, there were no consequences to his actions,'' Blondin said. A meeting of state Democrats is scheduled for Dec. 17. Watanabe said the Democratic caucus in the U.S. Senate had political reasons for not punishing Lieberman more severely.

I imagine those of us in DC see and hear far far far more about the Obamas picking a school for their girls than the rest of the country, since it's all over our local news and people here know the schools so we're talking about it. I hope they go with Sidwell Friends just because I think it is the most secure and security is crucial.

The researchers who led the investigation into McColo’s activities allege that some of the world’s biggest botnets operated through the company’s servers. As of Tuesday last week, about 153 billion e-mail messages were being sent every day. Within two days of McColo being closed this had dropped to 64 billion, according to IronPort, an internet security company. The respite from an infested inbox is likely to be brief, however. Experts said that spammers were already scrambling to connect to millions of PCs infested with viruses which were once used to send spam.

Oh am jealous your in DC. I love DC. Am from Maryland and I loved going to DC because there is so much history there and places to visit that are free to the public. Everyone should go there at least once in their life. Even the Zoo is free. Love to see changing of the guard at Arlington. Going to the Air and Space Museum. All the museums are wonderful. Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Capital and the White House. Gosh I could go on and on. Also the surrounding areas of VA and MD.

Yes, indeed baseball fans, it was nearly 70 in the Mile High City of Denver, Queen City of the Rockies. I went out today for some shopping and a visit to my doctor and did not wear a coat. After I got home, I aired out my house for the second day in a row with the windows open. Yesterday was nearly eighty, a record high.

Freezing rain predicted tomorrow with highs thirty degrees less than today.

Tourist board forces me to tell you that there are ski areas open and more traditionally open on Thanksgiving. Bring your skis. Just don't expect to ski down Colfax.
