AMERICAblog: Wednesday Morning Open Thread

  • grandma · 1 year ago
Good morning.....I surely hope we are all celebrating one week from today !!

Obama ad will have live portion

Wednesday night's Barack Obama primetime ad will contain a live segment near the end of the telecast.

The Democratic candidate is in Florida and teaming with former president Bill Clinton for the first time on the campaign trail. The live portion will be broadcast from an evening rally, though it's not clear if Clinton will share the stage during the segment.

The Obama campaign provided The New York Times with a trailer from the taped portion. The footage is described as--

"...heavy in strings, flags, presidential imagery and some Americana filmed by Davis Guggenheim, whose father was the campaign documentarian of Robert F. Kennedy. As the screen flashes scenes of suburban lawns, a freight train and Mr. Obama seated at a kitchen table with a group of white, apparently working-class voters, Mr. Obama says: “We’ve seen over the last eight years how decisions by a president can have a profound effect on the course of history and on American lives; much that’s wrong with our country goes back even farther than that.”

The Times added that the content will highlight the stories of four American families and the challenges they face.

Makes sense GOP would cancel their events, both McGrumpy and Moosemama would probably look like shit if they got wet, all that makeup and PamTan getting on their clothes...err...the clothes they have to return to Niemans afterwards. Most of their followers err I mean supporters probably didn't have their waterproof sheets handy.

Morning Propaganda with Joe & Mika is still trying to rehab the Palin/McBush image for them. This is so disgusting, I'd really rather listen to Daffy Duck...and it makes me wonder what Zbig thinks of his airhead daughter...

    P. S. Earth to MSM pundits: I don't think most voters in this country want a "rock star" BTW, as they like to term Palin. If I wanted a rock star, I'd vote for, well, I don't want one actually.
  • Apphouse50 · 1 year ago
Zbig is simply relieved that she's financially independent, something we all wish for our kids.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Yeah, but she used daddy's name to get where she is...no one I ever knew ever had the opportunities she had. And people like her think there is a "level playing field."

What a joke they're all having on us.
  • Apphouse50 · 1 year ago
To me, she seems "confused." More like some fresh-out-of-journalism-school kid than someone for whom it's okay to take sides. I wonder if she even realizes what a lightweight she is, and who hasn't figured out that's precisely why Joey The Scar has her on there -- that, and of course, for her last name.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
i'd rather my children rely on me the rest of my life than carry water for the GOP like Mika does every day of the world.
  • Apphouse50 · 1 year ago
I'm with you, but I wouldn't wanna have to look forward to carrying this dingbat for the rest of my days.

If I were Zbig, I'd be pretending she wasn't mine.

Can't have Caribou Barbie messing up her $10,000.00 hair. That'd be a travesty. So... what are they gonna do when they're elected and the Russians start raining bombs on us?

    Breakfast TV Nattering Heads:

6 Days to Go! And McCain's pollster has THE math: it's too close to call! This despite so many people being in the tank for Obama. To wit:

    1. The TV Networks. It's "repulsive" says the Blonde Survivor, approvingly quoted by Fox & Friends, when so many people are suffering, so many babies are starving, that The One can spend millions on an infomercial. Mika began the show by saying Obama is "saturating" the airwaves tonight. For a whole half hour! On 3 networks! What can people watch besides him? They can't even see the pre-game now! And Jakey Tapper said it's "unlikely" Obama will delay the start of the game! Fox execs said that the game will start on time, but maybe not, Jakey T says; so typical of Obama's "arrogance". Doesn't he know that Real Americans don't want their baseball pre-empted and then, perhaps, even DELAYED! Tapper also said it's "risky" for Obama, because people will just get sick of Obama "OVERsaturating" the media, and people will just vote for John McCain instead, since they will have missed the Maverick War Hero they loved for those 6 days when Obama's face was in their faces so much!

    2. The Los Angeles Times. Gretch, as Doocy likes to call her (rhymes with wretch and retch) was indignant that this paper is so in the tank for Obama that they are suppressing a video of a NEW terrible threesome with Obama in the middle of the sandwich. Forget about the Reid-Obama-Pelosi menage a trois; this new one is Ayers-Obama-and some Arab guy (Rashidi or Khalidi). All these terrorists are at a send-off party when the Arab Guy (a PLO-lover) left the University of Chicago for Columbia University. Fox & Friends pointed out that these elite colleges are nests of Jihadist fellow-travellers. And Obama is the Zelig in the midst of all these terrorist symps and actual terrorists. Gretch says it's an "intentional" suppression; they have been sitting on the story for 6 months, and won't publish it--and they've got the smoking gun tape of the Terrible Threesome whooping it up. In CHICAGO!!!

    3. Ohio officials. Not only are various agencies like Family Services persecuting Joe the Plumber just for DARING to ask Obama a tough question (which the mainstream media refuses to do), and on Joe's own lawn!, some Clinton-appointed judge is letting homeless guys vote! It's a SCANDAL, since Judge Sargus said these homeless guys could list a park bench as their address. Kilmeade scoffed, as long as a bum says I live at "Park Bench # 7", he can vote! And everyone knows the homeless love Obama, so it's all a SCANDAL! "It's CRAZY!" Doocy echoed, since the homeless will organize and gather together to vote en masse, multiple times. And unfair, since Fox viewers can only vote for Sarah once, and they need to show their electricity bill to do it.

What with all these forces so in the tank for Obama, it's a miracle John McCain can still be competitive. But he is! The poll of LIkely Voters by Gallup puts the race at 49-47, a statistical dead heat. Forget all those state polls--they don't matter. Neal Boortz, such a tonic at 6 AM, reassured the Friends that thanks to the Greatest Hit of the GOP (Taxes), "it's a real race again!" Obama lost the election when he told Joe the Plumber that he was gonna screw him over every April 15th. All of which means: Cindy McCain, will it be Valentino or Carolina Herrera for your Inauguration Ballgown? And Sarah Palin, will it be Tar-jay or Target?!
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
thanks to Bush/McCain economics, i'd say the homeless guy voting bloc is going to be really big this year...

go Park Bench #7...home sweet home.

Are we going to get rid of Pelosi this coming January? Haven't heard much on this.

I predict that if we don't, and include Reid as well, we're going to be off on a bad start. Also Obama better not put Powell in his cabinet, or keep any right wing fascists from Herr Bush's admin.

Obama needs to start on a clean slate.

    can we do it...
    yes we can!

Very inspiring to watch the speech with those people in the rain and cold. Anything worth fighting for is worth paying the price, repugs wouldn't understand that. Palin wouldn't mind standing out there in the rain and cold because if gramps gets a cold......President Palin.

Depressing observation, but the bright spot is we will (God willing) get to see Obama side by side with Bush as the preparation begins and the difference will be stark, and remind everyone how horrible the last 8 years have been and how much we have to look forward to the next 4. And then there is that day when Bush gets on that helicopter and gets the hell out of DC...
  • linqtrader · 1 year ago
If the MLB calls off a World Series game because of cold and rain, are you calling them losers? Campaigning in the cold and rain....why put supporters at health risk? Obama is egocentric and uncaring. He doesn't care about the American people. He's got plans to undermine the U.S. Constitution and arrange to stack the judiciary so that laws can be made from the bench. Just check out Saul Alinsky's game plans for radicals.
Obama will sell out our troops, and sell out our nation to any and all of our enemies. Alliances of the past DO matter.
  • martha · 1 year ago
You don't get sick from cold or rain. You get sick from bacteria and viruses.
  • linqtrader · 1 year ago
And your propensity to catch these viruses and bacteria because of a compromised immune system, increases by exposing yourselfÂ
  • Laura-In-CC (fka Doodlebug) · 1 year ago
Actually, you're kinda cute. Campaigning in the rain ... wow! That darned Obama just doesn't give a rat's derriere for anyone but himself. How can you possibly think that Obama has plans to "undermine the U.S. Constitution?" Bush has already shredded it and there's really not that much left to destroy -- only restore to its original glory. I hope the hell Obama gets the chance to "stack the judiciary" b/c that's all that's been done for the last 8 years with judges who think, and rule, like the rightwing theocrats they are. (BTW, there really is no such thing as "legislating from the bench," it is only applying Constitutional principles of fairness and equality to everyone, not just a limited few).

Obama will no more sell out our troops, as you say, than Bush adequately "supported" them. He cut off our troops' health care, rehabilitation and hid them from view when they returned to us in pine boxes. Some respect for our fighting men and women. Lastly, Obama CAN'T sell out our nation -- Bush-o-nomics have already done that; we owe the Chinese 1/2 a trillion, accept their cheesy products unconditionally (at least until someone's baby dies), sell out the companies that were formally all American and move (with the government's blessing) American's jobs overseas -- all while giving those really clever corporate geniuses and rich folks every possible tax advantage that can be lobbied for.

linq -- there is a special place in hell for you and your ilk -- we, here, happen to REALLY love America -- not just what it can do FOR US but FOR ALL. Please find your rock and crawl back under until election day when you can waste your opinion in the voting booth.

Not EVERY John needs a plumber...
    Okay....
So first, he gives us Sarah Palin, and is roundly criticized for putting someone with little experience and knowledge on international (and you could argue even domestic) issues in the #2 spot. All kinds of qustions are raised about the vetting process, and for weeks we have to listen to her shallow thoughts on issues she knows little about. You would think he learned a lesson from all this, but then we get Joe the tax evading not-really-a-Plumber. Again, clearly not vetted. And from his apparent lack of understanding of how the Obama tax plan will actually benefit him, someone who doesn't have a handle of even those domestic issues that directly affect him. Instead of just letting him go away and not satisfied with just mentioning his name at rallies, now he is actually a spokesman!?! And now Joe-the-Fraud is an expert on International Affairs!?! His talking about Obama and Israel -- it's UNREAL!!! These are the kind of people McCain chooses to surround himself with. It seems he's on a mission to find the LEAST qualified people to represent his views. Maybe Joe will be an Ambassador? Or Cabinet member?
These will be the longest 6 days of my life...

We stood up for Barack in the cold rain yesterday, because we knew he would be there for us. I drove an hour and a half in rain and sleet and being with Barack and that crowd kept me plenty warm! Meanwhile, 5 miles up the road from my home, in Q-town, the McPain rally was cancelled. Local paper claims they would have had 10,000 supporters there. Yeah right, lol!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Good for you!!! How awesome was he, even in the cold and rain? I saw highlights on the news (in Texas here) and he was so great. I thought it was awesome that he still kept on and the crowd was still enthusiastic. Keep up the support and tell everyone you know in PA that they need to vote!!
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Good morning. There's an old saying in the Midwest and the South, dating at least fromthe Great Depression, to the effect that sunny weather is Republican weather. It used to be understood that Republicans don't go out in the rain. I'd say the cancellation was a Republican concession, not a failure of nerve but of standing by the convenient practices of the Grand Old Party. When it's raining, they feel that sensible people stay indoors. And that's what they did.

That doesn't make sense to those for whom all of life is a struggle on the ramparts but therein lies another very important issue: Revolutionaries are rarely welcome at the dinner party celebrating the success of the Revolution.
    Just saying . . . .

Mac's still talking about Joe the Plumber even after Faux News discredited him. Has anyone else noticed that Mac's starting to sound like Gabby Hayes? (For those of you under 70, Hayes was an old, OLD, character actor in 40s, 50s westerns. He was usually a sidekick and used corny sayings like "dad burned, durn tootin." ) Mac's voice has that nasally retirement home twang to it now. Really grates on me.

    Sorry..... lame excuse for McCain.

I live two towns away.from Quakertown ....and we had no snow. Nothing in the area qualified as a more than intense flurries with a minor white cover on the roads and grass.

BTW. it was "snowing" in the greater Philly and Valley Forge area . No big whoops. I ran into it on the vway back from the Obama Rally in Chester.
