AMERICAblog: Well aren't they?

  • pablo · 7 months ago
I love animals, but when a dog bakery opened up in town I seriously wanted to abduct the patrons and release them in a third world slum. You know our civilization has reached its decadent Louis XVI stage when people are spending $20 on a treat for an animal that will on occasion eat its own shit.

    Okay, thats funny!

with the way human interaction has been reduced to internet short talk, and the stress that we humans face, not to mention people lie, steel, cheat, murder, rape, assualt and so on, of course people form a stronger bond with an animal, You have to have a whole different communication with lets say a dog, it is simple they want food, comfort safety and caring, you want compainship not to be judged, to be cared for, it is a win win, My dogs are not like my family, they are, if someone hurt my dog yes they would have to call and ambulance, maybe worse, you will see grown adult tuff guy men, go ga ga if you put a puppy in a room and close the door and watch on hidden camera most of the times. that is what dogs do they have helped settle the west, there wouldnt be an alaska without dogs, many people used dogs for pack animals, guards food, protectors and now we use them for elderly comfort, handicap, drug enforcement, and now new studies on how dogs can help with serious disease's, such as diabetic shock to warn ahead of time through taste and smell that the owner is low on blood sugar way before a machine can, they help in law inforcement and many other way. So they are to me very important and abuse against them is beyond a sin to me. We owe dogs respect. My dogs are spoiled rotten and i love them i call them daddies little prozac.

Pets aint humans.. it kills me how pets are equal to human beings, whats wrong with this place. Putting all these clothes and shoes on dogs is cruel, but because it looks nice.

we have humans getting killed and we give people killing pets more time in jail. We have millions of people starving but we rather spend more on pets cuz they don't talk back and make us feel like we are in control.

I don't anything wrong with caring for your pet, but when your teaching it better than family that's a little to much. And no pets are not a substitution or training for having kids
  • Solitary · 7 months ago
You are right. Pets are far superior to kids. :)

    You betcha'.
  • SCLiberal · 7 months ago
Some of us never wanted kids in the first place. There is no shortage of people on the planet. Boyfriend and I have 5 dogs: all rescued or adopted. It might not make a difference to the world but it makes a big difference to those five.
  • Milli · 7 months ago
My cat just told me to tell you that you don't know what you're talking about.
  • Bloix · 7 months ago
Well, sure, this is cute, but it's a real problem when people of modest means are faced with a pet with a life-threatening illness and a potential vet bill of thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for treatment. If you really believe that your pet is part of your family, then you need to buy pet health insurance.

thanks they both have it already. and trust i have modest means but still they get what ever i can give them

Actually animal cruelty is not punished to harshly mostly it is a fine, the ones that go to jail, usually involve money bets on fights. It does amaze me that a person came into a thread about people talking about something such as dogs, and the love a person has for them no matter if it is over board or not, and actually is negative, and no only negative but writing as if everyone else is stupid and they are the correct ones. Go have many many many many kids enjoy that, if it is your passion, and brings you joy that is awsome. But why put down other peoples passion.

I could easily sight the things that are bad about kids, or humans but why it just is negative and non productive. For alot of us we can't adopt, so we can never have kids, so they are to us a silly small substitute for campionship, as silly as that is, it brings joy to people that can never have the honor of having a child.
  • SCLiberal · 7 months ago
Animal cruelty is barely punished at all. I recently saw a case on Animal Planet where a drug dealing dog fighter's house was being raided. An officer opened a refrigerator that was sitting outside and saw a black plastic bag on the shelf. He still can't explain why he opened the fridge or poked at the bag but when he did it moved. Inside was a pit bull puppy that had been used as bait. It was badly dehydrated and covered with bite wounds but after a lengthy stay at the vet's, he recovered. Not only recovered but went on to be a drug-sniffing dog at the border!
The drug dealer who did that to the puppy got probation for the cruelty to animals charge.

My mom refers to my cats as her grand-kitties and my brother's dogs as her grand-puppies. I don't refer to my cats as my children or babies, though. They are my companions and it is my responsibility to care for them and in return they hack up hair balls onto my pillow.

and yes i did buy outfits and yes my dog has outfits he likes lol he gets what every the little bastards want.

My little Yorkie certainly had a sense of style. When I ran out of his favorite green bows and had to resort to the pink or blue, he got quiet grumpy and put out. I know dogs aren't supposed to see color, but he knew. I'll swear by it.
  • offspring · 7 months ago
my kids like to play with a huge pink ball, if it gets busted and you get a purple blue or red they dont give it the time of day it is funny
  • offspring · 7 months ago
give a dog a bad hair cut like i have done and you will see the look of death to you, in their face they get embarrassed trust me.
  • sandiegopete · 7 months ago
we TOTALLY coddle our english bulldog and constantly refer to her as 'our baby' (even though she's 9). for us DINK couples (breeders and gay) our pets are our kids. My wife never had a dog before and now totally loves and dotes on the pooch, we're about to move into a new place, once we get settled we'll be in the market for another pooch.
  • devlzadvocate · 7 months ago
We provided for our dog in our wills. He gets as good health care as we do. Gets put up in Camp Bow Wow when we go out-of-town. He brings me joy everyday.
  • offspring · 7 months ago
did the same, for what they give you and I they deserve all the best

On the other hand, I once had a boss that looked and acted worse than a dog that I would have run over with my car had I seen her on the street.

My shepherd mix and my beagle mix both think they own the house. One day the beagle mix refused to stop pestering us until I sat and rocked her for half an hour. The shepherd mix requires us to put parmesan cheese on his food for him to eat it.

    You're well trained! LOL

Dry food and water for the Siberians. Nothing but the best. They lived five years longer than most Siberians. They also ran all the time and were allowed to go out in any weather they wanted to except the heat.
  • rand503 · 7 months ago
Actually, I once met a veterinary nutritionist specializing in dogs and cats. So I asked her what we should feed dogs, and she said, "Meat." I asked her what brand of dog food she would recommend, and she said none of them. Most of the "food" is actually chicken poop -- which they use because it's cheap protein. I said, but I thought the better brands had all this balanced nutrition, blah, blah, blah, and she said unequivocally no they don't. Sure, they may add a few vitamins and minerals, because the chicken poop has almost none of that, but even what they add is actually worthless by the time they do all the high temperature processing in the tin cans, or to dry it out.

She says the best thing to serve dogs is actually the table scraps that have plenty of meat in them. Carrots and broccoli are also good. Never feed a dog onions. She says she feeds her dogs only real meat with some veggies. Basically what she eats!

This vet is foolish. I've had vets tell me time and again: nothing but dry dog food. She's subjecting her animals (and yours) to the same diseases that affect humans. My dogs are lean, healthy and disease free. I treat them well, I love them, but they're NOT human; they do provide companionship, but not the human kind. If I had the kind of money to provide animals what humans need, it would go to feed hungry children.
  • Roy · 7 months ago
I give my 2 shitzs dry, for sure, but hell would come down on me if I ever ate chicken without giving them some. They love chicken (and pork chops, etc). Just cook theirs without salts, sauces, etc.

I don't see how cooked meat could be bad - so long as dogs have been with man they have eaten cooked meat.
  • rand503 · 7 months ago
So feeding a dog what dogs have survived on for thousands of years is bad, but giving them processed dry food, something they never adapted to, is good?

Me thinks that rates of cancer for pets has skyrocketed over the past few decades, coinciding with the emergence of processed dog food.

Incidently, my dog lived 14 years, never had any diseases and was healthy right to the end.
  • SCLiberal · 7 months ago
She's probably never heard of Pet Promise: no by-products, no ingredients from China, meat is organically raised with no hormones, antibiotics, and all from U.S. farms and ranches. It's what my 5 get and they are healthier than ever.
  • Anon · 7 months ago
This has corn products in it! You should look at Halo, Innova, Orijen, Evo, Karma (completely organic), or any other top food brand, none of these have any type of processed grain, fillers, corn, by products, protein fillers on their ingredient lists. They don't even use whole eggs, dogs should not be eating soy products, and Pet Promise has quite a bit of filler ingredients to make them full! If you let them try any of those brands of food, they'll eat less (because they do not contain filler ingredients) and still get more nutrition! Most of those brands (can't recall off top of my head) were not part of the big recall scare either. Check it out though..

I took our family's Australian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees to the local Sonic Drive-In with me today! Wheeee! They had a great time. It was a great break for all of us from the near 100 degree heat here at the ranch. I had a cheeseburger, and ordered the dogs chicken nuggets. The Australian Shepherd, Lexie, made absolutely SURE I was being fair in doling out the nuggets. She made sure the Pyrenees, Sierra, took turns, dammit! It cracks me up when dogs get overly concerned about the distribution of treats. Reminds me of... ummm... people! Yea, thats it!
  • HelenRainier · 7 months ago
Cowboy -- you are a good "big brother" to take them to Sonic! I have three cats and must admit to preferring their company to that of most people.

They listen, they always agree, and they just like to do what they do best -- be cats!
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
We also have three ranch cats. They each have distinct personalities. Two of them prefer to remain outside, and hang around the barn. One of them loves to come in the house at night, and sit behind our heads on the couch, purr and kneed the couch like she is nursing! She also is VERY vocal about when its feeding time!

There was an article on Yahoo back in December about dogs and fairness. My link to it no longer works but I did copy this part of it:
Ask them to do a trick and they'll give it a try. For a reward, sausage say, they'll happily keep at it. But if one dog gets no reward, and then sees another get sausage for doing the same trick, just try to get the first one to do it again. Indeed, he may even turn away and refuse to look at you.
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
I'm sure this is very true. Dogs get their feelings hurt VERY easily. AND it just kills me if I think their feelings are hurt!!!
  • FatRat · 7 months ago
Thanks cowboyneok for suggesting the Rachel Maddow Show. It's as good as Olbermann.
-----I remember that article that SCLiberal mentioned. Any dog lover would recognize that dog is deeply offended. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0gec3lebsZ1... Notice that his compatriot is not offended. Dogs do indeed get their feeling hurt quite easily. That is a fact!!!
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
Yes, quite obvious that dog is NOT pleased and making it known!
  • FatRat · 7 months ago
"NOT pleased" is putting it mildly. lol
I just clicked the link and now realize I posted the wrong link (pic with no story). Sorry about that, I'm a bit forgetful. ----Dogs can think "no fair" too by The Associated Press--- http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/1...
  • cowboyneok · 7 months ago
    Thanks for sharing that!
  • SCLiberal · 7 months ago
I frankly don't understand why anyone would want a pet and NOT make him/her a part of the family. Isn't that why you want them in your life to begin with?
  • SCLiberal · 7 months ago
Since we are talking pets, go look at the Rolling Dog Ranch. They take in dogs, cats, and horses that are disabled: blind, deaf, neurological conditions, missing limbs-- it doesn't matter. They are just amazing. Their blog is my first stop every day.

    Dogs rule!
  • Roy · 7 months ago
I hear ya - however you want to look at 'em, they are precious and earn their keep.

If you own one, and they are not part of your family, then maybe you have a problem, I hardly doubt the dog does (notwithstanding some biological problemo).
  • Milli · 7 months ago
Wait, so I don't have to ask my cats permission to sleep in the bed?
  • kugelschreiber · 7 months ago
You know, it is possible to love an animal without projecting human traits upon it.
  • rand503 · 7 months ago
Strange. I wonder how dogs survived in for thousands of years without processed dog food?
