my old hood (well, near it - Columbia Heights actually worse than Adams Morgan crime-wise but neighbors geographically and psychically)

I'm really sorry to hear this. This is one of the main reasons i left DC for new york 10 years ago. It's a dangerous city.

But John! Didn't Scalia and Roberts just tell you that it's constitutional to carry a gun? And that DCs gun laws are unconstitutional? I mean, the right wing thinks that is the cure for this...more guns! And more guns! I am very glad to hear he will make a full recovery. I have never liked guns and have always been in favor of banning them as much as possible...yes a far lefty liberal...now I am not so sure anymore. Perhaps it IS time for all of us to own and use them. Before the fascist state does take them away and we have nothing to protect us. Yeah that's it, let's all just shoot each other to resolve our problems. I mean, shit, the Supreme Court told us that is a good thing!

He'll recover, right? And then he'll be all okay again? And he won't flee to the hinterlands of Maryland or do anything foolish like that, will he?

This comment doesn't relate to gun violence, but it is another example of DC disgrace.
Impossible to take care of treasures here while blowing up treasures there.

Like every other thing, bridges, roads, buildings, parks our Republican friends can piss away a couple of trillion dollars in a fucked up war and have no money to maintain this country. His jovial, frat boy attitude exhibits his lack of interest in anything American. I am sure he has never visited the Mall, cares not about how Americans live, never visited a National Park, in fact only sees the parks as a place to drill for oil or shoot animals. The party is no better. The GOP only care about their own incomes their own kickbacks but constantly scream patriotism at everyone else. I pay my taxes and never complain, but i will not give a dime to maintain the Mall when we piss away $#500 million a day in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I considered moving to DC at one point.
But it was always hard to tell the good neighborhoods from the bad ones. They kind of blended into each other.
Whereas, in my current city, you can pretty much tell where to go and where not to go.

I'm quite familiar with that corner and NEVER go by there at night.

And this is our nation's capital. It's really pathetic.
No different at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue nor in the Capitol Building. The thug in the Oval Office doesn't even bother with mugging one at a time, rather millions and hudreds of millions of people. You think handguns are bad, he uses machine guns, tanks, rockets, figher jets and bombers. And he's just itching to use the nuclear arsenal, if we won't let him do it to Iran, then he'll take it out on us.

Yep, pathetic is a mild word. Right in the nation's capital.

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope he makes out okay. It is very scary when this happens within minutes of your home. Hang in there.

Hope he recovers quickly. Two words: Shoot back.

This is going to sound horrible - my comments tend that way...
But maybe if people started screwing with the Real Estate business (put up signs in front of properties for sale advising prospective buyers that their kids could get shot or have someone offering them drugs) maybe that's what would boot the DC cops in the ass.
I don't mean to sound callous. I've never been mugged exactly, but I got my assed jumped one night in downtown San Jose, walking home from a bar, because I was drunk and bumped into a little gang-banger. If that child had had a gun I might not be typing this now.

OK, Aravosis, watch out--you're next! Mrs. Greenspan is all riled up and loaded for bear! (even though, you're not exactly a "Bear").

Well, don't worry. Pretty soon there will be a lot more guns on the street in DC, thanks to the Supremes. Then, everyone should be a lot safer -- at least that's what the NRA says.
Hey! Just get yourself a gun!
Have a good day!
