  • Indigo · 1 year ago
You "literally ran into Caroline Kennedy"? Is she alright?
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
hey, i don't know about the old man, but i'll take his kid anyday.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    very interesting...
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Of the names mentioned here and there, Wes Clark is the one I hope Obama chooses.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Me too, hun! I've always like Clark. I even forgave him for supporting Hillary.

If McCain is a war hero, then Wes Clark is a war super hero!!!!!
  • mirth · 1 year ago
It's a safe bet that Clark was on Clinton's short list for her VP. But he's a much better match with Obama.

    Obama/Clark

    Now there's the ticket!
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
I remember wes clark during a cnn iraq war 2 interview:

wolf (or whoever) - tanks are not affected by rpg's right?
clark: that's correct, no problem. unless they get hit from behind in a spot by the engine..
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Wow, Caroline Kennedy was in that Caribou? Cool! I go there sometimes. I like Wesley Clark but I don't know if he is the best choice for VP. He's a great liberal, which I love, but I don't think he'd help pull in any of those undecided or middle-of-the-road voters, would he?
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    the military record helps though.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
His military experience completely washes out McCain's. You can't count being a POW as being experience for assuming the role of commander-in-chief.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
He holds some of the same supporters of the Clintons such as myself. I would be happy to vote for him and his experience as a general would give the ticket something to balance out McCains "Im a POW". We can have a General.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    Wes Clark?

that'd be VERY cool... although, I think he's already said he wouldn't do it.

as opposed to chuck hagel, who said he'd run as Obama's VP if he was asked.

yeah right, chuck hagel?!?!?! WTF is HE smoking?
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
I saw clark on democracy now and they were talking about mossadegh in Iran, and clark is like, yeah well we had to stop communisim. fu clark. I'll take dodd anyday - much better choice. Clark will be ripped by the reich-wing.
  • sittenpretty · 1 year ago
oh he said that...yea than fukk him i s apporopriate
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I like Dodd, too, but I hope he stays in the Senate where he is sorely needed and where he will be a huge asset to an Obama administration.

    Wes Clark on the issues:

  • jr · 1 year ago
look at Clark kick ass against McCain
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=c5bYzL2y7xQ
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Wow, it's sickening how biased those MSNBC hosts are for McCain. They talk about McCain like he's their fucking Messiah.
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
Anything is possible, but I think it's a stretch.
  • sittenpretty · 1 year ago
    no Hagel,any accident for BHO,well have a repuke.........no thanx
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Kewl.

One of the Obama staff people was anonymously quoted as saying they're looking for someone "who's like Jim Webb but is not Jim Webb."

    Clark would fit the bill.
  • JustAnOldLady · 1 year ago
I think it's pretty safe to say, Obama will pick a WHITE MILITARY MALE as his choice for VP.......
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
How about Zachary Taylor for VP or maybe William McKinley or maybe Obama could just tailor his own military uniform and threaten to re-invade Canada again. Why does this country take this commando and war chief so seriously?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Some things Clark brings:

    1. Bridge with Hillary supporters;

    2. May bring some white male voters;

    3. McCrazy's so-called military/foreign policy expertise is zapped away;

    4. Arkansas;

There must be more, but that was off the top of my head.

Also, he'll be needed, because fixing the Pentagon and getting us out of Iraq will be a big job. If Obama just does it himself with a Sec Def and NSC, it will suck up all his time.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Oh, and, Clark will help if there's an October surprise, which there probably will be.

(Don't forget who's in the White House.)
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Good points.

    Also:

Judging by their public personas, Obama and Clark are a good personality match - both are gentlemanly and cool under stress. Both are great speakers. Both have longterm stable marriages and well-adjusted children. And both are purty! :)
  • Hangtown Danile · 1 year ago
You still think that Big Love is just going to pull up stakes and leave Iraq? At this point if Big O gets in, he will most likely just finish the job that is almost done anyway. Most of the fighting going on there now is being done by Iraqi nationals now. All the heavy lifting is already done. He can just walk in and say OK we pull out... Over two years. And the masses will say "Hail to the King!"
  • MorgaineSwann · 1 year ago
Clark's knowledge of the logistics of coordinating troops and forces are unmatched - he's the perfect guy to take hold of Iraq and Afghanistan and get our soldiers home.
  • cmpnwtr · 1 year ago
Wes Clark would be a good choice. I supported him for prez in '04. He has a huge network of supporters on the net. He would be a good attack dog with McCain and has the standing to strip away McCain's phony veneer of nat. security gravitas.
  • djonan · 1 year ago
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
    I'm with Clark.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I'm not surprised on hearing this news, he has been spoken about as a potential veep for awhile now. I like Clark and he was my man back in 2004, but he ran such a weak campaign that it makes me a bit nervous if he was the choice this time around.
  • Patriot · 1 year ago
How well liked is Wes Clark at the pentagon? Serious question. Does anyone have an opinion or inside knowledge?
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
I've been out awhile but Clark is mostly respected as a NATO commander in chief who forced the Serbs out of Kosovo with no casualties - other than one stealth fighter destroyed. Clark did feud with the Chairman of the JCS and Secretary of Defense Cohen, who thought Clark was operating too autonomously. They thought Clark should have been asking their permission about doing everything, but Clark had enough on his hands dealing with 12 or so NATO governments. Clark also knew the issues better than they did, so if he ignored them some, so what.

Clark was first in his class at West Point, and a Rhodes scholar. At Annapolis McCain finished fifth from the bottom in a class of almost 900.
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
"McCain finished fifth from the bottom in a class of almost 900." ROFL!
    that's pretty f*****g bad!...

    ========================
    There you have it!
  • Andon · 1 year ago
Clark plays well in The Rest of the World. He's the guy. No question about it.
  • 1billinnj2 · 1 year ago
i do like wes clark also. i think it is a good idea.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Bingo! They were most likely interviewing him. I think, with his military experience, he would be a valuable asset to Obama's administration or as VP. The man eclipses McSame. McSame was shot down over North Vietnam and became a POW. That is the extent of his service. He was at almost the very bottom of his class. I do not understand why everyone continues to call him an hero. Sorry, a hero is a person who at risk of their own life will attempt to save another's. John Kerry's actions in war were heroic not McSame's. Gen Clark, ran an European theatre during the Bosnian war and would be a great addition to Obama.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
If not as VP, then Sec of Def.
But I would love to see him on the ticket.
  • OriGuy · 1 year ago
He hasn't been out of uniform long enough for Sec of Defense; I think it's 10 years.
If not VP, then maybe National Security Adviser.
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
hmm... after reading some these comments, I'm thinking that maybe an Obama/Clark ticket isn't so far fetched. Interesting.. I just didn't think that Clark was all that popular with the voting masses and wouldn't bring all that many voters to the polls, but maybe I'm wrong.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
It's probable that any negative image you had of Clark came from mainstream talkingheads. Even with his impressive military (and personal) background, he's a liberal and the rwingers don't like him because of that.

Across the country, he is very liked.
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
THIS WOULD BE A REALLY GREAT PICK!
  • Ruslanchik · 1 year ago
I sincerely hope that Wesley Clark is not the pick. He was terrible when he ran for president in 2004 and will only cause problems for Obama. He could really damage the campaign if he screws up a debate the way he screwed up his first press conference. There are no aides to bail you out in a debate.

Here's an idea, why don't they pick a person with a long history of dealing with elections...like a politician, for instance.
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
    No. No. No. God no.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
Good choice. Obama needs Clark's military experience. May tip more independent voters in his direction......
  • prichard · 1 year ago
Clark has the creds to be Obama's attack dog when, during the closing days of the campaign, W and bin Laden do everything possible to try to scare the public into keeping the GOP in power.

A victorious SACEUR, who led a fractious 19-nation coalition in quickly winning a war that stopped a genocide -- without allied casualties --and set up a successful peacekeeping mission, Clark is also an internationally renowned diplomat. He's done it, not just talked about it.

You can't beat 4 stars and having been publicly exactly right from day one about how wrong the Iraq invasion would turn out.

Clark's also been on the record from the start chastizing W and Cheney for screwing up the operation in Afghanistan -- not only letting bin Laden stay safe, but also letting Al Qaeda reestablish its power there and train for new attacks.

This exactly mirrors Obama's stance on Afghanistan. Having General Clark point that out when the GOP tries to paint Obama as weak on defense would be invaluable.

Clark now has more political experience than any of the other military figures now talked about as possible veep. He's had four solid years of campaigning for Dems. And his presidential run was more successful than any of the others said to be under consideration. He won a primary and came in second or third in several others.

Watch this video to see how his Fox stint has honed his political skills in smoothly countering GOP talking points:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=c5bYzL2y7xQ

His victory in the veep debate would be impressive.

And what could seal the deal is that Clark's and Obama's policy positions have been, for the most part, virtually identical. Obama could feel confident that if anything happened to him, Clark would successfully carry forward their agenda for the nation.
  • MorgaineSwann · 1 year ago
Wow - I hope they pick Clark - he's my first choice! His background is perfect for creating an exit strategy from Iraq and Afghanistan. He's solid, he's Southern, and he's a Hillary supporter. He was on Dan Abram's tonight representing the Democratic postition, and he really defended Obama to Abrahms.

He totally negates any of McCain's military cred. McCain can't touch Clark's qualifications, and Clark is strong in all the places that Obama might be a little weak.

It would be beautiful - and imagine how good Barack and Wes would look in the obligatory shot of the two candidates waving at the crowd.
