jr, I don't think it's koolaid...I think all Clintonites are on drugs these days. They need to get into rehab quickly and let Obama rip McCrazy a new one.

Listening to Hillary now just makes my skin crawl. She is destroying any chance the Democrats have of taking the White House. I have to change the channel when I see her standing there at a podium with that (Bush) smirk on her face.
David Hardt is not just a superdelegate, he's a gay superdelegate!

David's a good guy, but he's genuinely torn I think. He was initially an Edwards guy, and his partner is a huge Hillary supporter. He knows that Obama is winning the Youth vote, but keep in mind that YDA is not just a college organization. It's a youth organization that includes students and young professionals up to the age of 36. David's not a student. He's a young professional, Democratic activist and major donor that lives in Dallas. While YDA members do lean Obama (although probably not as heavily as CDA members) - a good chunk of the YDA leadership and insiders have supported Hillary. I think eventually he'll endorse Obama, but he'll probably wait until next month.

John, I don't see the point in goading people into endorsing Obama, especially since it's being accompanied by what is an essentially empty threat--'you'd better get on board now or you'll be . . . ' what? Not invited to sit at the table in an Obama campaign or administration? That may be how the Clintons operate but it's not Obama's MO.
Encourage them? Yes. Throw out empty, semi-veiled threats about missing some 'once in a lifetime opportunity'? Kinda childish, or so it seems to me.
Sincerely, huge Obama fan and americablog devotee

Someone at the DNC really does need to give John a call.
There really isn't a nomination race at this point. It is over. But don't tell the press that or they will start talking about McCain and that is the last thing anyone wants.
You will see roughly two to four superdelegates making an announcement most days between now and June 15th. Thats a minute less airtime for McCain to compete for right there.
You will also see the primary race run right through the end of the contests. The DNC is in no hurry to allow the Repulicans time to start their smear attacks. Any attack they raise before the nomination is 'settled' will be disqualified for further media cycles as 'old news'.
The only effect this type of talk is having is making it much harder to avoid an Obama-Clinton ticket as a demonstration of party unity. Hardly the outcome anyone wants, least of all Clinton who does not want to be Veep anyway.

The Republicans know very well who the target will be in the General...they are already working on it. Delaying the Dem nomination is only hurting us. The media should be focused on Obama while he drags a Depends sportin' McCain behind him into the 21st Century.

Also, the other YDA superdelegate supports Hillary (there are three - President, National Committeeman and National Committeewoman) - Francisco Domenech from Puerto Rico - http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view...
At this point the super delegates are lined up behind Obama, they have seen the writing on the wall. If he wanted to, he could close this down now, but he doesn't want to annointed by the Supers, he wants to win the majority of the elected delegates (which he will do next Tuesday), then he can release the names of all the folks he has already lined up. In the meantime, he is letting them out a couple at a time in a steady stream.
You need to give David Hardt a break. What's really going on here is that YDA has rules, which two officers have now broken, that precludes David endorsing while this primary is still in play. David is respecting the rules of YDA.
Obama is winning by following the rules (unlike Clinton, who keeps trying to change them). Let's not jump all over a Superdelegate who is following external rules by which he is bound.

John, You really are an asshole sometimes! Why are you picking on David. Those of us who know him through Texas politics or YDA, know that he is a really good guy and doesn't deserve you trying to beat up on him. I am an Obama supporter, but I don't believe we need to attack people who are not. And quite honestly, knowing what's going on in YDA, David is just playing by the rules. YDA does NOT allow officers to endorse and apparently Crystal and Francisco who both did break the rules and endorse are now facing impeachment. So, don't blame David for wanting to stick to the rules. Those of us who know him well, know what he has done for the Party. He helped build probably the largest chapter of Young Dems in the Country in his home town of dallas. He gives a shit load of money to candidates and the Party and at his age, I dont' know anyone that gives that much money. So give him a freaking break, he's doing what is right so let him be. Most of the people that know him would probably start attacking you if you keep attacking him.

I can explain why.
BECAUSE WE'RE TRYING TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY HERE. It's sad that the DNC has given superdelegate status to YDA members, thus putting them in a position where they have to choose between doing what's best for the party and the country (i.e., endorsing SOMEBODY, even Hillary) or following the rules (very impressive and important rules, I'm sure) of the YDA. It's a real dilemma, but since the other three hundred million of us Americans aren't YDA, it's hard for us to really give a shit about your petty, stupid rules at this point, in this context. If David Hardt (or any other superdelegates, really) can't decide even at this late date, then they should never have been given this responsibility by the DNC. Next time, you YDA members should tell Howard Dean, "Sorry, sir, but we can't be superdelegates because WE HAVE OUR OWN RULES THAT CONFLICT WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CHOOSING A PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE." Surely, in light of this, they will not waste superdelegate status on your membership again.
Howard Dean, about three weeks ago, said it is time for the superdelegates to start making up their minds NOW. He did not say that they had to wait until the convention or until June. Maybe superdelegates should take their cue from the chairman of the DNC.
Personally, I will be very upset if we have another election cycle with superdelegates. The fact that so many party elite, including, in this case, some rather officious Young Democratsm can hold up the nomination process like this only makes a mockery of our whole system.

It's easy to be a hard-assed jerk when it's not your position and future on the line, isn't it?
Be realistic. One superdelegate isn't going to make Hillary wake up and say "okay, I'm out." YDA's rules don't allow David to act while the primaries are going on. He's respecting the young voters of the remaining states. You may not give a damn about that, but that's why he was elected president of YDA, and not you. Overwhelmingly elected, I might add -- with over 93% of the vote.
There's no question that David, like the remaining superdelegates, knows who he is going to end up supporting. To accuse him of being unable to decide is unfair.
There are many legitimate reasons for some superdelegates to remain undeclared. Some are waiting for their constituency to vote or finish voting, like David. Others have positions in the various conventions that will be occurring in the next few months, and want to be seen as neutral arbiters. There are other currents at play than simply your desire to END THIS NOW.
It's not going to end now, regardless. Hillary Clinton is all in and hoping the last card brings home her inside straight. You and I know it won't happen, but you should also know she's not going to get out. You do realize that, don't you? She's in this through MO/SD. It sucks, but that's the way of things.
David clearly realizes that. So here's his calculation: get involved now and get impeached (and thus not even be a superdelegate come August) for violating the rules of YDA, or let his constituency vote and take care of things in June, when Clinton will be getting out and when he won't get impeached for acting.
If you think that option "A" is the better one, then I must say, you picked your avatar name well.
David is a great YDA president and a good person. You don't know him, or the things he's achieved for his local, state and, yes, national party. Back off, shut up and let's just accept the fact that the candidate you and I both support has won, and all that's left to be done these next couple of weeks is the counting.

Dumbo "...doing what's best for the country...or following the rules..." Since there won't be a new president until January 20, 2009, I really don't see what the tempertantrum is about. As for Mr. Hardt's following the rules, I thought that was a requirement for all of Sen. Obama's supporters? mush57 "isn't kerry a superdelegate...as well as kennedy. and didn't massachusetts vote for Hillary?" Quite true, but you only have to follow the rules when it helps Sen. Obama.
