AMERICAblog: What Obama ought to say to McCain

  • EmGD · 1 year ago
The John McCain of 2000 wouldn't vote for the John McCain of 2008.

That one is real good. I think Obama should just stay on message and forget all this attack stuff. That's what they are trying to do, to get him off message. Divert and attack. And the attacks have become just plain ignorant and silly. Sure the wingnuts think they are great, but they aren't going to vote for Obama anyway. I also think the McCain/Palin team is on the verge of a major implosion. The Enquirer thing will come out next week and the Troopergate thing is just getting started. I saw Biden in South St. Louis yesterday. He absolutely rocked the place. He didn't attack, he outlined everything in plain language, he talked about McCain and Lugar being good friends of his, he tailored it all to St. Louis and the businesses that are closing here. I just hope independents are listening to speeches like the one that Biden gave here yesterday. If they hear they will vote Obama/Biden. To be honest, all I'm worried about is the voter suppression and the awful things going down in Ohio. Ohio may already be lost to vote rigging. I really don't see them stealing it all this time, I think the young people would take to the streets. Another thing we've got to be worried about now is the Repukes are going on an all out campaign to take over as many Governorships as possible. There are alot of states up in the next few years. It's the Governors that decide redistricting. Remember DeLay and Texas. That's their stratergery now. Don't let them get away with it. Work hard in your state for the Governor and the Secretary of State.
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
sorry, but I think most young people wouldn't take to the streets if they were set on fire. you saw how they reacted to the 'don't tase me, bro' incident.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
California's last gubernatorial election was a yawner, so many Dems put their energies into the Secretary of State race. Now we have Debra Bowen leading the fight against Diebold and any other suspect machines.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Now that would just be silly. He shouldn't say anything like that. Just my opinion.

Or let's turn Reagan (he is STILL dead) on his ear...

"Are you better off than you were eight years ago?"

How are those gas prices working out?
  • jimpharo · 1 year ago
And here I thought it was "F- you, a-hole."

    But yours is good, too.
  • Sugapea · 1 year ago
    Terrific...John....Send it to Obama!

This is the one I'd like to see:

George Dubya Bush let the Republican secret slip out...

"You can fool some of the people all the time...
and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.”

    http://thinkexist.com/quotes/george_w._bush/

America...We can't afford to be fooled again!
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
Sorry...I love your posts, but that is a terrible idea.

For one, it is derivative. It's been used before. For the other, it is "labored", it comes across as something someone thought was "clever" written in a room somewhere and though it might not fall totally flat, Obama's strength is seeming to be off the cuff, and quick on his feet.

What Obama needs is not "clever little catchphrases" he needs to be on point, and attack the rotten lies, the policies, the rush to war of Mc Cain, as well as point out that the people in the US will vote if they think Obama has enough experience for them, Mc Cain snuck one under in Palin, because people are voting for PRESIDENT, but she could become president if....easily.

People that want McCain (even if they are dead wrong) now get the choice of voting for someone they do want to, but because of Mc Cains non-maverick caving to religious nuts, they HAVE to get her as well. It's a TOTALLY different issue.

Obama OUGHT to also talk about the terrible abuses and ignorance of the US Constitution.

We don't need no stinking catchphrases...especially one taken from the opposition.
  • barts · 1 year ago
Great line, John, hope it finds its way to Obama before debates.

Why do the McPlains keep lying? Perhaps because nobody challenges them on it. Journalists: if your preparing for an interview, Q & A, or any type encounter with the McPlains, check to see if you have a bumpy ridge along your backside. It's called a "spine." If you lack one of these, perhaps you should be changing your career to, perhaps, something less strenuous.

I just don't know why people keep saying that McCain is a Maverick, John McCain is not a self made man, first it was his father or grandfather helping him, then he latched on to Cindy and her money, so what has McCain ever done to be called a Maverick.
McCain is also not a war hero he is a war survivor.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
    Good points!

John should be asked: "What makes you a so-called Maverick? What makes you a hero?"
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
He was a negligent flyboy and a highly dependent son and husband. And now he is hiding behind an Annie Oakley wannabe.

A simple "John, please. You're better than this."
  • ProgressiveTroll · 1 year ago
That's a good one too. I used to respect McCain a little bit. I didn't agree with him on a whole lot, but I did admire how he jumped out of the GOP box at times. Not anymore. I did feel sorry for him just a little bit, for being the old man fall guy for the GOP, but not anymore. He and he's whole despicable family can rot.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
I disagree with your ad. Been there, done that.

Got to have something more creative.

And of course, since the bush republiCONs have "dumbed down" America, it has to be SIMPLE and to the point.
  • hotdamn · 1 year ago
I still like "McCain-Palin: The Bridge To Nowhere".
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    Excellent!
  • Topher · 1 year ago
Agreed. I really think this line could stick, especially if the "Palin Lied" story gets legs.
  • Upland_Oddball · 1 year ago
John, if the past few months tells us anything, it is that Obama will not follow through on any plege to call out the MxCain camp on its lies and distortions. I have no expectations that we will see a concerted, effective, and ultimately winning effort to take it to McCain and Palin from now until November. A ffew months ago, when the Obama campaign responded to the GOP sliming of Gen. Wesley Clark by throwing him under the bus, that is when the Obama campaign started to blow it. If the Obama campaign had stuck by Gen. Clark and had backed his effort then to beat down McCain's opportunittic use of his POW status for politcal gain,, we wouldn't be hearing the POW card used as it is now. By throwing Gen. Clark under the bus, Obama wasted an opportunity to lay down the foundatons of a huge victory as early as June. Obama wasted valuable time that could have been used to set the parameters of this campaign and to take control of the message from then till November. And the Palin stunt's impact would be far more minimal today.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
I wonder if General Clark is as concerned as you.

    I doubt it.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
It seems to me Obama took on McCain in a very effective way in his (Obama's) acceptance speech.

I do confess that I didn't understand the dustup with Gen. Clark. I thought it was unnecessary.

It appears some of the press is going after McCain by today, and it's better if the press does it.
  • CobaltBlue · 1 year ago
    Point well taken…

He’s now just a maverick for Bush... and the last 8 years.

He’s the un-rebel: champion of the status quo.

    MCCAIN - PALIN = BUSH 44 - AMERICA 0
  • flashcard · 1 year ago
John, I like yours as well as any that I have heard. If he does use it he needs to drive it home every opportunity, it needs to become a mantra. It would be pretty cool hearing a few thousand people chanting "you're no McCain".
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
Why does everybody think they know what Obama should and shouldn't do? To hear what I've been reading nobody has any confidence him as it is if everybody thinks he doesn't know what he's doing. Who'd want a president like that, we got one of those already. I'm just going to trust him and his people to handle things, they've done just fine up to now.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Here, here...I agree. McMoose has been spooling out alotta rope...
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
    Good point JT.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
They're not doing fine at all.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
The polls are f'ked, in my opinion. The polls that show McCain somewhat ahead have oversampled Repugs. Is there something else you base your conclusions on---something new?
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
I agree, I don't believe the polls are correct. Remember the media is trying to make it a close race so they can steal again.

However, the positive side of all this: it's getting Democrats scared and fired up to do something now!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
McCain is on a role, and the white middle class working mom is in love with his new VP pick. It's the press that will ultimately decide the outcome of this election.

I think, I hope, I pray, there is a an increasing sense of urgency for the press to begin pressing the issues on these candidates. They know Palin and McCain have been distorting the truth, and now they're beginning to feel used in the process.

I can sense movement in that direction. This could be the backlash and support Obama and Biden need.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I think you are right on all points.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
It's a great line, John, but it may be a bit too personal. I'd like him to hit McSame hard on the issues and to repeat and repeat that he is no different than Bush and has voted for him 90% of the time.
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
Here's what he needs to say:

"I was not referring to Palin re: lipstick comment. However, now that McCain has brought it up, let's ask the question: is Palin a pig? When it comes to getting federal pork for her consituents, yes, she is a pig. When it comes to abusing her power of office, yes she is a pig. When it comes to protecting the environment, she is a pig. When it comes to helping herself to lobbyist's money, she is a pig"

    on and on....
  • threeaces · 1 year ago
How about this: While in the Illinois legislature I supported laws to allow schools to teach children how to recognize sexual predators. Recently John McCain has come out against such laws. I'm Barak Obama and I approve .......
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
i know it's been done, but I'd like to hear someone tell McCain: go fuck yourself.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Do Vice Presidential candidates have to release their taxes and medical records?
Have the Democrats given up on John McCain releasing all of his medical records, he needs to be asked about his medical records and Cindy's tax returns everyday and let him explain why the American people don't have a right to this information.
  • interlude · 1 year ago
John is right. Obamas campaign seems at a loss. But pegler is too obscure a reference to speak to most people. This dog won't hunt. However a quick response to attacks needs to ne a refrain like "there they go again".

It is imperative that they quit playing defense and go on offense!
  • OneManComotion · 1 year ago
How about, Senator...I knew a Senator and Senator your no Senator.

THIS MAN IS NOT AN AMERICAN NO MATTER HOW MUCH HE SUFFERED. HE has taken the low road of lies and deception with alligence to the party that he strives to be accepted by to become OUR LEADER?????????????????? We are stupid should we let this minuscule man enter this high office.

How in hell could the polls be even close?
