AMERICAblog: What Obama won't say (because he has moral fortitude)

Excellent point, John. NPR this evening did a piece about the robo calls in NC, and they included a little snippet from a commercial Julia Louis-Dreyfus did for the group making the calls. In the PSA, Julia apparently is standing in front of an empty Oval Office, and asks the audience to picture who could be in there. I just hear the words "Oval Office" and the picture that comes to mind is of an exploited young woman on her knees. I don't think I am alone. That image didn't die with the end of the Clinton administration.

Hillary has been successful conning the MSM into thinking that "she's already been vetted" and so the MSM like lemmings fall into line and refuse to go after her for similar things that Barack is being attacked for. It's almost like the media thinks it's his turn to go through this. See if he can take it, vet him. Maybe Barack has to start a repetitive talking point parade in the "I've been vetted" genre. Now it's McCains turn to be vetted, LOL, yea right, the MSM vetting McCain.

You're right, sittenpretty. He's all class, and he's asking us all to rise up to his level.

A woman called into Ed Schultz' show on Air America today......saying the idea of Bill Clinton having sex in the oval office of the White House , with an intern, was so totally repulsive to her that she could never vote
for Hillary.....for deciding to stay with him.
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
Latest news and tell me the media is not trying to do a Gore on Obama:
ABC is having a 2 hour town hall for Hillary with Stephan hosting Sunday. Just Hillary.
Blumenthal has been caught, see Huffington Post, doing daily mailing of rightwing sources to winger and mainstream media attacking Obama. He has been sending mailers to people from Josh at TPM to Scaif to news outlets with stories picked up from the far right circulating smears on Obama and trying to create a media frenzy parroting this stuff.

I agree....Obama has class and integrity.......something we haven't seen in a President in a long, long time.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Shit...any chance of hearing something about health insurance...or global warming...or perhaps alternative energy...or wait...how about education...or maybe bringing home the kids from Iraq...???? Any chance? Nope. America, the junior high school, is obsessed now with real stupid shit thanks to the MSM, the Hill-Billy Machine, and Team McCain. Obama is far classier than all of them put together. Unfortunately he will have to be dragged down to this junior high level before long.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Actually, at this point in time, I kinda wish that Obama WOULD hit back hard, really HARD against Clinton.

It's fine to take the moral high ground and we all know that it is owned by him alone, BUT at some point you need to reassess the field. And just as John Kerry never hit back against the Swift Boaters (and we all know what a mistake THAT was), why not come back at Hillary with ACTUAL FACTS?

Facts can't be disputed, even if they are wretched...

    from a reader at Sullivan:

...... These younger people were convinced that political involvement was useless because the the system was so broken. They came of age anywhere from the second Clinton term (Lewinsky) through the disaster of the Bush years. They have no reason to believe that politics can work, or that it is possible to effect any large scale change, so they work locally or just opt out.

This is what Obama has tapped into. The reason all those thousands of young Dems registered for the first time and voted in a primary was because he made them believe honorable politics was possible.

They are intoxicated by the idea of a politics where things they thought were not possible become possible, and people talk to each other like adults. They don't think he's going to fix things, they think they are.

What the old farts might want to consider is that these young people who have no particular vested interest in the current system might be seeing the rot much more clearly than the fogeys who have been entangled in it for decades. And the mature folk might want to accept that the burden of proof is on them to show why such a viscerally disgusting political game is worth playing.

Opting out of that is not immaturity, it's intelligence.

Obama has a sweet counter-pander available to him at any time.

He should announce a new initiative to protect White House interns and staff members from sexual abuse and sexual harassment on the job. He should ask Hillary to sign on and pledge it as well. Our interns must be kept safe! How else can America's mothers and fathers feel safe sending their children to work in the White House?

Throw in Capitol Hill, too, if you want to make it seem less Bill-specific.

OBAMA needs to go PLAY HOOPS in Indiana...somebody NEEDS to tell him this,NC is also a big BASKETBALL center...go Bama go
  • smiling_dog · 1 year ago
Well, if that's true, let's hope moral fortitude counts for something (this time around).
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
Why is McCain never asked about his connection with Haggee? Oh, they have explained that. Haggee isn't actually McCain's pastor so it doesn't count.

Now the talking heads are so quick to say Obama is washed up. The Rev. Wright thing did him in. What else do they want this man (Obama) to do or say? The media just can't let it go. Every day, every friggin day, all they can talk about is Rev. Wright and Obama. And sadly it makes no difference if the media talker is white or colored. No difference. They all are saying Obama can't possibly overcome Rev. Wright.

And now Georgie S. is going to have a town hall with Hillary on Sunday? No one sees anything wrong with that? Not even been mentioned today. And each and every one of them thinks Hillary did a smart thing going on O'Reilly. She did great! Except she completely bashed Obama. But that was probably the intent wasn't it? As much as I dislike McCain and what he stands for I cannot, will not, vote for Clinton. She is tainted by Bill, and she is doing everything she can to ruin the life of Obama. This is politics at its worst. Every election year I think it can't possibly get any worse, it can't possibly get any more expensive. But they proved me wrong again.

Carter comes to mind... and I guess it's gotten to be a long, long time.

I have fallow politics since the 60's and I have never, ever seen media soooooooo bad. These jokers are the worst. What about the garbage about McCain? Is that coming out. Does anyone know about the Keating 5? Does anyone know how dumb McCain actually is? I will say it again, we need to keep the media honest. Start linking these idiots so we can send e-mails. Lets blast them with e-mails and force them to get off this shit and get into the issues. In a way, the Obama camp has to take the lead and refuse to answer any question not realted to the issues. Enough already! The media will not change. We need to force the issues.

I used to like her. Now, I will never vote for her.

Yeh, but if worse come to worse, I'd use her to vote against McCain

One could really see the invisible Clinton hand in today's late afternoon cable yak...not so spookie any more, just peculiar.
Big measures of fear on the old analog webs and no mention of Palfrey, not even news breaker ABC.
And, a sudden, starting yesterday, end to the blacklisting of Michelle from the Chelsea-laden teevee channels...

I am so glad that it is clear now what Obama would say if he had the casjones to speak for himself. Thank you for reading his mind for usa and clearing this whole scandal up. It is obvious that you know so much more than us and will tell us what we should be thinking and what Obama would say if he had the balls.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    fireblazes,
    -----------------------------------------------
All you need to do is to WATCH his campaigning, LISTEN to what he says and READ what is being said about him. All of that information adds up to some conclusions that you don't seem to like.

I am so very sorry it offends your very being, but not everything in life goes your way. So please, we are all speaking about our opinions and ideas about all campaigns, if you want to add your own GUESSES as to the outcomes, be our guest, but to denigrate others is cheap, nasty and just plain silly.
  • DougStamate · 1 year ago
John can asked to be spared all he wants, but I'm afraid that the fact that "Monica" is old news is just that.
As for Sen. Obama being at an event at Ayers house in 1995; in 1995 Barack Obama wasn't running for President. Now he is and that meeting has become news. Ridiculously so, but it has.
Nor can the Obama campaign be congratulated for not bringing up that Wright was invoted to the White House by the Clintons (I don't know which one actually invited him) - that would imply that the Wright of 2008, the mentor that Sen. Obama was forced to publicly disavow, was known for saying those same things before 1995. Now, how would that look? It would look as if the only reason that Sen. Obama broke with Wright was because Wright was hurting his political career...
Sorry, but you're wasting your invective.
  • DougStamate · 1 year ago
Sorry, that should read: "...Wright was invited to the White House...".
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
As I am so sorry you and your host's "hate" for Hillary has clouded your views. (in my opinion) I will vote for him,if Hillary is eliminated. As for being "our" guest, if you are a moderator I defer to that statement. If you are simply another poster I refuse to defer. Most of the time I stay within the rules, if not someone deletes my posts. Whatever, it does not make me bow down to those that follow the path preached here. I will not be quiet. I will not start campaigning for Obama until he is lifted up as the candidate AT the convention. So are you a moderator here? If not I will speak my peace in the true spirit of how things used to be here. If you are offended it is not my fault. I support Hillary and I will not give up until she does.

Does John Aravosis think that Senator Obama and Reverend Wright are domestic partners since marriage between men is not recognized in most states and are having an intimate relationship with children and the responsibilities of marriage. But unlike the Clintons there is no adulterer in the relationship but there is faithfulness . The relationship between the 2 men is over 20 years old. However, what does Michelle think about this?
  • Dewain · 1 year ago
gemischt: "But unlike the Clintons there is no adulterer in the relationship but there is faithfulness . The relationship between the 2 men is over 20 years old."

Barack Obama is a superb judge of character. He had every right to choose Rev. Wright as his minister, officiate at his wedding, and baptize his daughters. I'm so sick of people piling on and demonizing Rev. Wright. Obama consciously chose him as a much trusted minister and now he says he is hateful and racist. Obama has every right to say that both then and now.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
Oh, please, we're talking about two completely different kinds of relationships, they are not comparable at all.

And Obama -- or anyone who calls themselves a progressive -- couldn't bring this up without being a total hypocrite, since we aren't supposed to be the side of "moral purity" or "interfering in personal decisions".

So, sure, yeah, this would be SUCH a GREAT way for Obama to fight back, if he were a neocon. Or a hypocrite.

Candidates for the people and of the people need not apply.
  • ericgoldman · 1 year ago
The simple fact that Team Obama is pushing this story (that Obama is too nice to push) proves that Team Obama would never say that Hilary should leave Bill. Because they are making too much hay out of pinning Hilary with Bill's missteps. Team Obama would have to find an entirely new way to inject gender into the race.

But more seriously, I think that there is a large section of the voting population that would not look too kindly on Team Obama were they to (1) promote divorce and (2) speak that disrespectfully about a former President.

I used to really enjoy visiting this blog. The vitriol hurled at Senator Clinton is so beyond the pale that I barely recognize the place.
  • gonzalez · 1 year ago
There is a reason. She is pandering to anyone for votes. I used to like her. Now, I will never vote for her.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I was with you until the last sentence, Grandma. WTH?
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    The last sentence?

Opting out of such viscerally disgusting political games, on the part of the young, is a sign of intelligence. They see it for what it is.......stupid.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Dumbo, are you a political operative? You should be...
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
It's the only game in town, Grandma. They better gut up and jump in. I know people who have opted out. Some on this blog. I think that's a mistake.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Don't get too excited. As mentioned yesterday; we still haven't met Obama's love child, Hillary's lesbian lover or McCains freezer with the $million in cold cash. Stay tuned...
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Radiowalla? Give it a rest! Free speech is alive and well here.

Obama's losing votes so fast in NC and Indy that it's a little too late. His best hope for those two states is that the Rev Wright stuff peaked tuesday and wednesday instead of today.
