AMERICAblog: What will it take for CNN and Fox News to take a stand against racism?

  • nicho · 6 months ago
Why is this news? Dobbs has been a racist from the get-go. His multi-year anti-immigration rant was just thinly disguised anti-Latino racism -- and no one objected to that. In fact, even a lot of people on the left cheered him on.

Dobbs was used by the corporatocracy to create a scapegoat class to take the blame when the corporatist policies ruined the job market and the economy. It worked.

This is why CNN, M$GOP, Faux, and all the other corporatist propaganda channels are blocked on my TV set.

John McCain never had to produce his long form birth certificate. That is a lie. Why are the birther people not being labeled as home grown terrorissts and unamerican, USA haters and all that. Imagine if this had been done during the Bush years, these people would have been imprisoned. No one was ever allowed to question anything about ol Georgie boy. These people are just biggots plain and simple. It embarrasses me that they are even considered americans.

It is bizarre how far Lou Dobbs has gone off the deep end over the last decade, he used to be a fairly even tempered business journalist, since then he's veered into Glenn Beck territory.

CNN needs to position itself as the unbiased news source in the center of all debates and jettison Dobbs in the same way they let wingnut Glenn Beck go from Headline news.

CNN was after all the network that once wowed the world with its coverage of Tiannamen Square and the first Gulf War. That should be the place they aspire too. The ratings may not be as great for the day to day scream fests, but they'll reap the rewards when major news happens.

Let Fox be the Confederate States of Amurica network and let MSNBC gives us the sharp wit of Keith Olbermann. CNN can hold a solid audience as the go to network for Breaking News if it just gives up the cheap, flash in the pan thrills of the bomb throwers like Dobbs.

Was it racist when McCain had to produce his long form birth certificate?
  • JeepTreats · 6 months ago
Just asking...don't flame me Obots! :-)
  • PeteWa · 6 months ago
I'll flame you for calling posters here 'Obots' - it paints you as a moron, as anyone who has even a cursory understanding of this blog and it's readership can attest to.

Nice try at trolling, but you still get a D-.
  • JeepTreats · 6 months ago
    Hey Pete:

Flame away. Number one I am not a "Troll". But perhaps I am one by your definition if I don't kiss the ground Obama walks on. If you wanna call me that go ahead, I've heard much worst than that in my life :-)

I voted for, donated money to and campaigned for Obama.

He lost my loyalty when he invited Rev. Warren to his inauguration and he lost me forever when he named Tim Geithner as his Sec. of Treasury.

There's so much of Obama's mindless head games that I can take.

I should personally appreciate his financial team as they will make me a very rich woman. I am a currency trader and an aspiring hedge fund manager.

But I believe in what's best for humanity and not just what's best for my bank account.

To me an "Obot" is an Obama supporter who makes excuses for him no matter what. They believe whatever he says not their lying eyes.

I'm going to wash your flames off now :-)
  • PeteWa · 6 months ago
I'm not even sure what your point was in responding to this after an entire week.

I still stand by my assessment: you were trolling.
You come into the comment section, and made a ludicrous claim that McCain produced his "long form" - using rightwingnut code... neglecting to say that what you were talking about happened before the 2000 election, brought on by a Bush supporter.
You then called the people who responded to your bullshit "obots" - clearly TROLLING for a negative response.
Telling you that you were trolling is different than calling you a troll.
I'm sure you're smart enough to understand the difference.

Now you hysterically return with more mush-brain-vomit and a "who, me? why I nevah, sir!"

You are free to "wash off my flames" but you can't wash off your obvious and inept trolling, no matter how hard, ala Lady McBethCain, you try.

    Revised Grade: F

I just read your response last night and felt like responding because it's my right :-)

okay, I'm your Troll Babe who disagrees with you and always will :-)

Was it a cover up when his bigamy was not reported on? We know that McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license while his marriage to Carol McCain was still valid. Media didn't cover that at all - maybe because John waited until just after his official divorce to use that marriage license?
  • JeepTreats · 6 months ago
I didn't vote for McCain. I voted and donated money to Obama. I was commenting on long form birth certificates, not marriage certificate.

    Laters! :-)
  • Jim · 6 months ago
McCain did not produce a birth certificate. Everyone knew he was born in Panama in a military hospital. His opponents in the Republican Primary wanted him out because he wasn't born on the good ol US of A soil. But, now get this, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama lead action in congress to declare that he was indeed a natural born citizen of the US and met the requirements for President.
Do you think McCain will make any suggestions for the same for our President? Don't hold your breath.

It ends when the majority of the American people stop watch CNN & FOX News!

So just say No to both CNN & FOX News!

I also feel strongly that CNN will get the hint long before Fox News does because its Fox News joy to push lies created by the republican bigots!

It isn't the job of CNN they just slipped on the banana!
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 6 months ago
the wingnuts (see below) are also suggesting that to reject birther racism is to be blindly supportive of obama.

What will it take for CNN and Fox News to take a stand?

More integrity than they typically exhibit or even possess.
  • samss · 6 months ago
I'm surprised CNN is allowing this.
  • Apphouse50 · 6 months ago
    Really?
  • jpjones · 6 months ago
You must not have watched much CNN in the last few years.

OT: I see that Chris Dodd has cancer. How fortunate for him that he has access to preventive care.
  • hillcrestdenizen · 6 months ago
Forget FOX, they're beyond hope. CNN surprises me. I thought they had some shred of decency.
  • markinseattle · 6 months ago
Who remembers when CNN wasn't chalk-full of sensationalism and over bias? Lou Dobbs has really lost it...our tv goes off when he comes on.

I see a lot of stereotyping in this article.
    Who's the racist now?
Name calling, defaming racisit and you don't even know it.
    Wake up!
Look at what we are doing to ourselves just to defend or attack other people that can't agree whether it's OK for someone's 'birth' certificate to be 25 years younger than the person is.
    PS.
It's on pretty thin ice, really.
A 'certificate' by legal definition requires signed attestation by the proper authority.
  • caphillprof · 6 months ago
It's time for the birthers to put up or shut up.
  • Apphouse50 · 6 months ago
True, and in fact, that time is long past. But as long as they keep getting airtime on Faux, CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the pack, they're not going to give it up. I mean, when were they EVER possessed of a need to base anything on truth?
  • Apphouse50 · 6 months ago
I don't know what it will take, but I told CNN that as long as they continue to include Lou Dobbs in their lineup, I'm outathere. Maybe if a lot more people said that they'd take note, but it would have to be a LOT.

Charles Pierce told David Shuster flat out last week that the reason this nonsense won't go away is the MSM flogging it to death, and specifically cited Chris Bigmouth Matthews and the way he went after Clinton as an example. Shuster was pathetic trying to avoid responding and redirect the discussion but Pierce, my new hero, wouldn't let him wriggle out of it. Humiliated, Shuster finally gave up and ended the discussion, but Pierce's point was made quite clearly and emphatically.

    More. Of. Same. Please.

You can congratulate Soledad O' Brien.....earlier this week she lit Lou up over a dumbass remark over the Gates arrest. She more or less dressed him down, telling him he had no idea what the hail he was talking about....some drivel that Gates should more or less ignore 390+ years of overt racism in this country and get over it.......Until you walk in the shoes, etc. Loved it

The entire tone of the questioning is tinged in racist ideology. Consider the outrageous claim that the State of Hawaii - from the Republican governor on down to the Honolulu County Clerk - produced a fake birth certificate to give the president "political cover." If Obama was born in Idaho, Kansas, or Oklahoma, would the birthers accuse local officials of lying?

    Probably not.

But because Hawaii is predominantly Asian, records from that state must automatically be "suspect" and "unreliable." After all, they aren't really American. It is a Third World country out there in the middle of the Pacific.
  • HelenRainier · 6 months ago
Remember when the Obamas went to Hawaii for their family vacation? On the Sunday talk show that Fox runs (I think that's the one with Brit Hume, Kristol, Williams and Cokie Roberts), Cokie was dissing that because Hawaii was such an "exotic" place. She didn't bother to mention he was born there, grew up there, still has family there and that his grandmother (who helped raise him) was terminally ill. She also apparently forgot that Hawaii is also a state.

    CNN = Certainly Not News
  • Memphomaniac · 6 months ago
Thought we were talking about CNN..not Fox News. Funny how you just had to try to tie the two together. Fox is doing fine, thank you and so are their ratings. Who cares about CNN.
