AMERICAblog: What's wrong with this picture? Obama leads PA by 13, but it's a battleground. McCain is ahead in Arizona by 2, but it's not a story.

They're just trying to get you ready for the "sudden upset" when the electronic machines all show McCain as the winner...

omg--is anyone watching Hardball now? There is some dude on who is making Bachman look like a liberal. He just upped the "socialist" label on Barack to "communist" and radical Marxist---but he is defending Barney Frank as a real american---HUH?
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Yeah..that's Tom Delay...but Debbie Wasserman Schultz is setting him straight right now!!
  • mmedefarge · 1 year ago
All those old Rethug dudes look alike, and sound alike. I wonder why he didn't throw Barney under the bus as well--maybe Barney has some good dish on him.

    Will it be enough?

ES&S, Votronic, Diebold, Hart Interactive ... under normal circumstances would "be enough"

BUT... I doubt that something like that would go unchallenged this time around... there are too many folks out there that don't like the fact that the 2000 and 2004 elections were stolen... add that to the "historic nature" of this election and the CLEAR choice that Obama has presented... the massive crowds he pulls in -- even in the rain... and the unprecedented nature of his support... if a "steal" were attempted, things could get very ugly, very fast...
  • zorbear · 1 year ago
Will it be enough? How much do you need? Eighty percent of all votes are done on electronic machines...
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
    I know, I was repeating Joe's question...

The whole idea that you can offset any vote rigging by turning out a large enough voting public to counter any electronic malfeaseance is absolute insanity..
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Oh, and Joe -- it's not the media "falling" for the McCain spin... they are colluding with the McCain campaign / GOP in setting the stage for a "sudden, unexpected" McCain "win"... and as I said below, the only things needed for this are teh machines...
  • anokie · 1 year ago
I saw Republican strategist Ed Rollins on CNN with Wolfy and he told him, and speaking from experience, that the people looking at thier own internal polling will suggest numbers that are positive to the campaign. I do wonder why they are reporting this when most polls suggest a very healthy lead for Obama in Pennsylvania...and I too wonder why the point spread has not been talked about or the lack there of in Arizona. But, of course given the performance that these pundits have had during this campaign, I don't believe they know what they are talking about.
  • TomsOld · 1 year ago
I'm scared, scared that the machines will be programmed to throw the election and the population can't and won't so anything about it.
  • stefanzo · 1 year ago
I wonder if they're counting on a strong voter suppression effort, and need to justify their 'win' by actually campaigning there.

It'd be more suspicious if they won against that margin - and didn't do any campaigning!

Straight from the Office Of Paranoia Studies (OOPS)
  • mmedefarge · 1 year ago
I agree with you. And it does seem to me that they are acting pretty smug for people on the verge of losing....

I like your acronym, too! But let's try to think more pronoia than paranoia, and flood the universe with good thoughts about this election.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
In 2000 figure they flipped, rigged or otherwise stoled, say, 2 million votes. In 2004 it was 4-6 million. OOPS may be on to something.

A hysterically funny bumper crop of Rethug sour grapes today...Vinegar, anyone?
  • martha · 1 year ago
We truly are a third world country. All day I have seen the lines, people waiting 4, 6, 8 hours to vote only to be told they aren't registered or see their vote flipped on a machine. What have the repugs done to our country?
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
We can *somehow* invade and occupy a country half way around the globe but checking voter registration cards is beyond our capabilities.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
martha, cheating isn't going to work this time. Obama knows he has to have so many votes, the Republicans can't stop them all.
  • zorbear · 1 year ago
The don't have to stop them all - just a few here, a few there (did you see the mailer they sent out telling Democrats to vote on Wednesday?), and then switch the numbers on the machines at the last minute...
  • Gary SF · 1 year ago
Hey, it was going to be a tremendous smack down, with Obama winning by a huge majority. Now it is only going to be an ordinary smack down, with Obama winning by a huge majority.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Propaganda, insanity, triviality. Its the life blood of media and corporate whores. Chris Matthews thinks Sarah Palin is "gifted" and has a "bright political future." Go figure.

Welcome to the United States of Dipshits. Like martha says below, we're a 3d world country now. Its just a matter of time before China and Russia come over and start raping us for our resources.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    by digby

Chris Matthews just allowed Tom Delay to call Barack Obama a radical, militant Marxist who wants to pack the Supreme Court with communists and is far to the left of Barney Frank --- and then chided Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she said that one should consider the source when it's someone who was forced to leave Washington in disgrace after presiding over the most corrupt congress in history. Apparently what she said was disrespectful.

Cable news and talk radio are easily turned into cauldrons of hate for high ratings and big advertising dollars. The right wing noise machine is already working them.

  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Wasserman should have given a big FU to Matthews... and asked him if it was really Obama's policies or his race that was causing the bile...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I saw that exchange. Sometimes you just have to wonder which personality is Matthews going to be for the day. I have no idea why a disgraced Congressman awaiting trial (if it even happens) is on TV giving opinions on anything.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    My thoughts exactly...
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    i saw it too.

I thought Chris Matthews pulled some weight at NBC...apparently not if he has to allow that piece of shit DeLay to spew lies with impunity.
  • zorbear · 1 year ago
Pulled some weight? Has to allow?

For eight years, Matthews couldn't say enough nice about Bush. then for the past year, it's been McCain the saint, McCain the maverick, McCain the savior.

It was only about a month ago (when he started thinking about running for congress next time in a Blue state), that Matthews suddenly started calling the Repub's on their constant lies. What short memories people have.

Maybe Matthews has decided not to run after all, and has returned to his true form...

Vote early, vote often, I'm registered in 3 southern states to vote and my brother is registered in 2, vote early in 1 and send in absentee ballots in the others, by hook or crook we are going to take this administration. This is very common here in Florida to have at least 2 residencies, with this strategy the Republicans don't stand a chance.
  • zorbear · 1 year ago
yep, that's what they said in Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004...

I was in the Philippines during the 1986 election between Marcos and Corazon Aquino (and the subsequent ouster of the dictator). Like Marcos, the GOP has the means to brazenly rig this election to make McCain the "winner" regardless of there actually being a large majority for Obama. However, such a result will not be credible this time around and may very well incite riots, civil disobedience, and serious political unrest and instability.

Will the crooked GOP risk it? I don't know, but they would be taking the same risk that Ferdinand Marcos took and look where that got him!

America, if Obama loses and you feel it has been rigged...GO OUT AND MARCH the streets...DO NOT ACCEPT it....We are serious...DEMAND A RECOUNT....ANYTHING....SOMETHING...just DO NOT ACCEPT it or it will NEVER change.

Most of the world will be fuming if there is good reason to feel it is fraud.

I heard on WOR 710 Radio this morning from Congressman John Peterson of Pennsylvania that the 13 point lead may appear painful to McCain but the GOP has confidence he will pull through. This story is becoming redundant.

In fact, John Gambling (radio host) asserted that for McCain to win he has to take Florida, Virginia, and Ohio. Also, if Colorado and Iowa turn blue, than it becomes essential for McCain to receive a victory in PA. Contrastingly, Obama only needs to win one.

On the other hand, the congressman stated that the western rural PA is still painted solid red. With remarks from Obama calling them redneck gun-wielding hicks, most people within his districts remain Republican supporters.

I guess we'll just have to see how the voting will actually go down on Nov. 4th in comparison to these polls.
  • JohnRJ08 · 1 year ago
I think Obama has been keenly aware of the fact that this election can be stolen, especially if it's close. That's why he purchased the 30-minute time slots on the networks. He knows that he cannot be complacent in any election where Karl Rove is working behind the scenes. ANYTHING is possible. That is also why the Obama organization has hundreds of lawyers standing by across the country to deal with the inevitable sabotage of the election by ultra conservative operatives who are more interested in having the African-American candidate lose than having the Republican candidate win.

A Word from Your Candidate of Hope

    Friends,

I’m coming to you today to encourage you to vote for me in the coming election. I step up at this time of economic hardship brought on by the greedy powers that be to champion you, my hard working countrymen.

Money grubbing bankers have destroyed our economy and made it nearly impossible to even do business. I will change that. I will act to stop the greed of those who would oppress you, and spread their wealth into the hands of those who need it.

Around the world our nation is despised for the illegal war my predecessors perpetrated on a sovereign nation. I will change that. I will bring back respect to our great nation. I will make it strong again, and bring peace to this great land.

We are victims of a class war that the other side refuses to acknowledge. I will change that. I will break down their strongholds and bring fairness back into the public discussion.

Our youth is mired in a sea of hopelessness and despair. I will change that. I will provide programs that pay for their education, and allow them to take their rightful place in society.

My opponent represents the old guard, those same people who plunged us into two illegal wars of aggression. Yes, he is a decorated hero, and he has accomplished much in his time, but he is old. His time is past. It is now our time to step into the spotlight and show the world what new hope we can bring.

My opponents claim my supporters (you) have used underhanded tactics to swing this election. Do not believe this. They are afraid of the power you wield.

They claim it is frightening the way your express your support for me. They deride my “celebrity” and they mock you when you come and hear me speak. They mock your enthusiasm. They ridicule your hope. They are afraid of your passion. But I believe in you and you can believe in me.

My opponents claim I have no experience, that my only attraction is the way I speak, or the fervency of my followers. They say my only claim to fame is as an author of an autobiography, and that I have only promises in my hand. But I have led a great campaign to rise from obscurity to the chosen candidate of millions of my friends and neighbors. I do bring hope. I bring the hope of change. I will change this great nation. Just give me Germany for 10 years and see what I make of it!

    Sincerely,

    A. Hitler

After I saw this video, I couldn't possibly vote for McCain..

He personally admits he ran for ambition, not issues, and the rest of the parts shows proof of him lying in his own words on lots of critical topics (economy, national security, etc).

As a Chicano from here in the Sonoran Desert, I write the Cactus Juice Commentaries for the web site of the Chicano Veterans Organization on the Internet. And no, this is not a plug.

Back in January, I "predicted" that the Chicano support for McCain would, at best, collapse. In addition, the Chicano opposition to McCain would exceed 75%. And over the summer, Marcos over at DailyKos, offered his prediction that Hispanic opposition to McCain would exceed 70%. And therein is the difference between Marcos and Myself.

However, I went one step further, and predicted that if I were wrong with my prediction, I "would eat crow" and invite my friends to suffer with me, feathers and all.

And it was all done in good fun, so, Tuesday, will let me know if my prescience, should be publicly recognized. :-)
