Who would have an interest in suppressing the African-American vote?

    ----

    That would be you, Hillary.

"Lamont Williams?" I suppose "Slappy Rodriguez" would have been too obvious...

"Who would have an interest in suppressing the African-American vote?"

    Hillary and McCain.
    (sorry for being redundant)

Only African-Americans? How do you get phone numbers for only African-Americans?

Classic voter caging. They take the forms match them to the ballots cast and then challenge the ballots for which there is no form.

It's not like anyone's going to do anything about it. Certainly not the Republicans and probably not the Clinton campaign either b/c low african american turnout favors them too.

Kerry, it would take me about 15 minutes to list all the "black neighborhoods" in my city. Or the affluent "white neighborhoods." Or the "gay neighborhood." Ghetto-ization carries a price.

This ploy is as old as the telephone itself.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
In Charlotte, NC, you go by zip codes...28216, 28206, 28208, plus some others, are almost all black neighborhoods. Of course, if the robocall hits a white household, doesn't matter. In the south, especially, there is still a lot of neighborhood segregation.

BTW, I got a "robocall" from Clinton's camp the other day, but I told the robot I was supporting Obama.

Thanks dontmakeme it has obviously been a long time since I have lived in a large city.

Shouldn't the FCC be investigating this? If they can tackle dinner-time phone calls from insurance salesmen, or duplicitous phone scams that prey on seniors, they can surely find time for this repugnant practice.

Apparently Hill-Billy and McBush have just too much at stake, what with their Exxon-Mobil-HMOs-GM stock performance, to allow the unwashed poor and the working classes to try to change business as usual this election year. Come on, people, this kind of shit is gonna get worse until there is some real revolutionary stuff to make the changes happen. I mean they DO know what is best for us underclass pickaninnies, don't they?

Some bad poll numbers: SUSA has Hillary within 5 points in NC

Rachel Maddow is on fire tonight on MSNBC/AirAmerica. She's making great points.

Nigel, that poll is hard to believe. Yesterday, another one said Obama 51, Clinton 37. It's been consistently running that way.

And, yesterday Obama talked before a "sold out" audience in Hickory, NC which has been devastated by furniture jobs losses. Hillary was in Charlotte, which has almost full employment (banking, financial, etc.). She tends to go to larger venues in cities and gives her "good old boy" the small towns hardly anyone lives in anymore (to keep him out of trouble?).

Larger cities have more cash for Clinton as well--because she's hurting for it.

If you are sincerely interested in activities suppressing the vote (as opposed to printing this just to hint that the Clinton campaign might be involved) you'll start asking questions about why Kansas Democrats rigged the February 5 caucuses to make attendance difficult in order to discourage participation so that activists could dominate the caucuses. Hillary might have won a primary, or at least come close, but the type of Democrats who support her were in effect disenfranchised and Obama won poorly attended caucuses.

Well I for one, haven't heard anything about what you are speaking about, so perhaps you could give us a link of something that gives a bit more information than what you have left here.

It is these very tactics (voter suppression, robo calls and more) that anger so many of us. These are clearly Karl Rovian methods for winning elections at any cost.

THIS is what makes me angry and very, very suspect...
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
This disturbs me far more than any speculation about Hillary being behind Reverend Wright's appearance at the Press Club. This kind of attempt to discourage voting is deeply antithetical to our democracy.

Agreed, but I also think that political maneuvers involving someone's pastor are shameful. At least let the other two candidates come clean on their own since Obama hasn't gone near that aspect.

Might could be these guys -- scuttlebutt is they're connected to robocalls elsewhere: The Frontiers of Freedom Foundation.
