AMERICAblog: Who will win the west is a real question in 2008 -- and could determine the next President

John McCain. People who know him best don't like him.
Say it all. Hit that hard and repeatedly and McCain will win no more than 20% of the electorate.

How can we lose when we have everything on our side? by midwestvoter [Subscribe] [Edit Diary] Sun Aug 24, 2008 at 09:07:22 AM PDT This is my first diary, so I apologize ahead of time for any and all grammatical errors, which are sure to follow.
First, I have been a fan of this community for about 4 years now and within the last year felt comfortable enough to contribute to the dialogue in the comments. Last night while waiting to fall asleep, as I always do, I went through the day in my mind and had a hard time coming down from the excitement of the Biden announcement. We have our dream ticket and as scary as it seems, our dreams of returning the People's house back to the people is only a fews months away. More below the fold...

midwestvoter's diary :: :: "We are really going to do this; Man, it's really going to happen!", I kept thinking. The more I thought about what is possible with Obama and Biden the more emotional I felt. Laying there, I cried again just thinking about Biden sprinting on to the stage, him nailing McCain's inability to relate to kitchen table issues with the most charming dig I've ever seen, and his ability to compliment Obama's commitment to the middle and working classes. It was just such a beautiful day. Then it hit. Without warning, my heart started pounding enough to hurt, I felt a bit panicked and I didn't know if I was having a mild heart attack or some sort of panic attack. I was consumed with doom all of a sudden, out of nowhere. Then it hit me, "How can we lose when we have everything on our side? It was the answer I came up as quickly as the question entered my mind that caused my distress. The answer was "BECAUSE EVIL WANTS IT MORE".
We have history on our side, we have two candidates, two genuine leaders, to navigate us out of the darkness greed and selfishness has inflicted on our ideals and threatens to destroy the American Dream. We have the people finally waking up, realizing they've been used, getting mad finally and taking action and we have the truth breaking past the corporate filters, paid hacks and shills, via the internet communities. We have it all and this should be our time. But we are ignoring the 800lb gorrilla in the room and that is the voting machines that after 8 years of rigged elections STILL AREN'T RELIABLE!
As we celebrate and continue to motivate and galvanize supporters, we must be just as vigilant in demanding paper ballots and once and for all getting rid of the Diebold machines, even if that means hand counting every single ballot. Shame on the Dems who have let this continue to be a problem, but shame on us if we don't put up one hell of a stink to fix it now. Not after the election, or after we take back the house. NOW! They will not just hand it to us, as we have painfully learned- repeatedly. They can still steal this thing and they are going to try. Hundreds of billions of US tax dollars they have been fleecing is up for grabs. Potential prosecution and jail time is possible if they lose this fight. They will never sit by and let Democracy take it's course and take their punishment. Crying fowl after the fact won't be good enough. The machines have got to go and our representatives need to get bombarded and harrassed by all of us until they do their damn jobs and ensure the election is fair.
We have proven people powered movements can do the impossible. This is a serious call to action to everyone. As long as the voting machines can be manipulated, we can nominate Jesus Christ himself and still lose. Why? BECAUSE EVIL WANTS IT MORE! Unless we do something and do it NOW!
I am only a little bit better than McMoreWar when it comes to computers so I'm hoping in the comments some of you will help and post links to every representative, state and federal, so we can begin contacting, as well as any ideas on ways to mobilize this movement faster and more efficiently.
I just pray it's not too late.
OK, Americabloggers- let's get busy on this and help!

Your diary is good. But, there is other things at play and we cannot know which is stronger. one is the changing mood of the voters. They are deeply unhappy and want a change. But, on the other hand is if they are willing to take a chance on Obama. alot of working class look at experience as the end all be all. they will go with a terrible candidate with 40 years of experience then a good candidate with 10. I live in the midwest and can say that most working class don't give a damn the color of someone's skin as long they believe that person can give them health care, a good paying job and security and a decent shot at a decent life. So, I feel Obama's race is not the factor that the pundits think. What drives them is in thinking if someone can make life better and as such think experience is the most important quality and someone that they feel understands and cares about them. This is where Biden comes in. Is Biden as veep enough to quell the concerns of these voters. If they feel he will be a real partner with Obama it will be and enough voters will go with them that the tampering won't be enough to put McSame over. These people just need to be convinced that Biden will be a true partner with Obama and as such will be there to make sure a real change can take place.

The problem with the punditry is that they think the only democrats worthwhile are the Clintons and that the conventional wisdom of the 90s is still relevant. They never quite understood Dean or Obama and think they are nuts because they go against the written in stone set down by the mighty Clintons in the 90s and to defy this is to defy god. They feel democrats should only compete in the same 10 states as always and follow how to campaign by the clinton script of 92. To do anything else is confusing for the pundits or to see that the party has moved on, has new strategies and that the torch was passed to Obama by the defeated Clintons is something they cannot wrap their teeny minds around.
These close numbers are right where Karl Rove wants them...I wonder what he is paying Diebold and their ilk to make it tie again.

NORTH, SOUTH, EAST & WEST need to consider the accountability criteria. Who is to be held accountable for the past 8 years of disaster? How can any logical and impartial voter not consider accountability for this record of multiple and continual fiascos? Why does the press NOT EVER mention the word? Is McCain not responsible for his role of 95% support of the Bush/Cheney record? Who then will be held accountable? The Republican congress had control for 12 of the past 14 years and the margin in the past two has been nonexistent. Who will be held accountable?

Obama just lost the west. By choosing Joseph Biden, one of the nost outspoken and prolific antigunners around short of Sarah Brady, he has sealed the nations fate for a McCain presidency.

I disagree. I have read several articles in the Denver Post about hunters here and in Wyoming being disgusted about the use of federal lands for oil leases and for being opened up for sale. You don't mess with land that hunters consider "their" land.

i can not believe that people would vote for mcCain. it will be 4 more years of the same. we will become a third rate nation and owned by other countries. it will be a police state and restricted travel. we can not afford another republican in the white house. the supreme court will be all conservative by his first term.

I live in Denver and I will tell you that while Dems have made great progress in Colorado, there is still a long way to go to win over the older voters in this state. I think the best way to do it is the way Biden did yesterday, keep tying McCain to Bush. AND keep tying McCain to Social Security privatization. These old farts here will pay more attention IF they think their pocketbooks are going to suffer even more under McCain.

The last time I looked, CA, OR, WA and HI were all in the "west," and McCain is going to get his ass handed to him here. The states you are referring to are the mountain states.
Say it all. Hit that hard and repeatedly and McCain will win no more than 20% of the electorate.
