OT, but ... CA Supremes have issued order in the Prop 8 cases. The petitioners get to have their day in court, but the court denied the petition to stay the effect of Prop. 8: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/supreme/high...

I agree with her. Your blog in particular, John, has given me quite an education. I was really out of the circuit for years before that.
I finally relented & got cable TV access to witness the primary campaign. Now I'm a addicted, especially to the "blogger on TV" Rachel Maddow. Thanks to her, I'm new on Twitter too.
Thanks John. Yes, you HAVE made a big difference. I think that you know you have.

Yes, the blogs have made a big difference and yours, John, is one of the best.
And I really hadn't thought about but I was inspired to go see Obama in Indianapolis. Something I had never done before. And most important took my 15 year son to the historic event.
Thanks.

I concur! This is very important in my view too, I spent a lot of time opening eyes that would not have been opened if they were left to view things that were posted as truth but were non the less lies!

I never bothered to learn what Twitter was, either - or that other stuff like 'reddit', 'FARK', 'Digg It!', 'Stumble It!' and all the rest of them. They just seem to complicate things, not simplify them. Of course, I could be wrong about that but, really, who has the time? I have a busy life and when I find some degree of down time, you can bet your ass that I'm not gonna use it to click those links. I'm sure that I'll lose out in the end - but, in the end, I'll be dead and so will you.

Jixter, download Google Desktop and once you have it on your computer, you can put all these little "Google gadgets" on the side of your desktop, for national news, local news, weather, your photos, website updates, etc.
One of the best widgets is the one for the Digg website.
Digg is basically a site that shows you what's popular about ANYTHING at the moment, in real time, all over the web, i.e., politics, science, entertainment, software, electronics, etc.
You can always go to Digg directly, of course, but you can keep abreast of what's going on with the Digg website by adding the Digg gadget to your Google gadgets.
Well am 60 yrs old. I live in a small rural town in TN. Am a small blue fish in a lake of red sharks. (ha) I to love to comment on this blog. I have learned to comment on a lot of blogs. You might be interested also at HuffingtonPost.com, Crooks and Liars.com and Democraticunderground.com, TalkingPointsMemo.com, and a new one The Daily Beast.com. They are all interesting plus the ones you mentioned. Welcome to the crowd. I like this blog because there are so many different kinds of people. I just love it.

Ditto to the fans above. Been coming here for quite a while and read and post on other blogs but AMERICAblog is the first thing I hit in the morning and the last thing at night - sort of home.

I also like this site because the comments have a BIG font. Much easier to read than Daily Kos and other sites.

What wonderful thoughts from a nice woman.
Frankly, I do go to other sites, but feel that Americablog is the best for communicating. I've been here 4 years actually, and it does feel "homey" to me. I miss some of the old people who've disappeared, but I like the new ones, too.
John, you do a great job! (Even if I don't sound appreciative enough sometimes...) There are a variety of opinions on this site, which I like. Even though I'm older, I hope I'm sort of keeping up!
Don't do twitter or any of the others, either. As long as I can get on this site and do some googling between housework, gardening and errands, I feel it's enough. : )

I discovered Americablog and the "blogosphere" during the Jeff Gannon outing, I guess about three-and-a-half years ago. It became clear to me very, very quickly - and I speak as someone whose day job is developing websites - that the internet and dedicated bloggers like John and his cohorts, along with a concerned populace and our open and free-wheeling dialogues, was probably going to save democracy. I have been addicted ever since, and got more involved with the election than I have been since JFK ran (I was a little kid). The problem now is trying to wean myself off a little bit ... get some balance ... I'm still hitting all my favorite sites five or ten times a day ... help! Is there a 12-step program available?

Except for the fact that 42 is in my rearview mirror, and I don't have any children, I could have written this comment myself. For over two years, I have been obsessing over the info on the progressive blogs. Since the election has been over, I have found that I have a LOT more time for other stuff. :)
(Oh, and I somehow screwed up registering with DISQUS, and so haven't been able to comment, until now.)

I just today took your tutorial on how to use the RSS feeds. I had never used it before and I'm hooked! I just wish I had discovered this BEFORE the election was over. Now I need to look into some of the other tools.

I like Americablog not just for the insightful posts from John, Joe, and Chris, but I love the occasional drama queen histrionics that they and we commenters all jump into now and then. Good fun! The recent mormon trolls in particular just didn't know what to make of that :)
You can't cut loose and post like that at other blogs like Kos without a bunch of them getting all uppity.

Well I'm almost 60 too, and I was never on blogs before - but this is one site I just love. It just seems the people on here are more intimate, more open and more fun. I don't know about twitter either, but that's ok. My 23 year old daughter can always explain it to me. My daughter's friends think I'm a cool mom. That's because I get more interesting info on the blogs then anywhere else. I love this site.

This comment is what the media hounds dont get yet. MSNBC has been ripping off the blogs all season this election cycle.
Almost every topic they cover each evening I have already read about on the blogs that morning.
They need to show some love to John and all the others.

I'm with you, GV Gal, although twenty years older. We don't have TV, never have had it, and all my news except what we get in the dead tree NYTimes comes from the net. Every morning, my drill is Americablog, Talkingpointsmemo, Dailykos, Firedoglake, and, during the election cycle, fivethirtyeight. Without all of these, I would have been lost. Had it not been for the "leave it all on the road" meme, I probably would have left it at giving everything we had to ActBlue candidates and Obama. But "leave it on the road" got me out to the Obama HQ and around the neighborhood. Maybe the blogs don't count to the powers that be, but they count immeasurably for those of us who depend on them. Thank you everyone who blogs, and thank you especially Americablog, for helping us so much and so well.
GVgal

Exactly - "leave it all on the road" really resonated, and I'm so happy that I can feel like I contributed positively to this historic election. Even my kids' Obama shirts started conversations at their Middle School - and we're in a +10 Republican or so county (which amazingly went for Obama - I'm still in shock...). The blogs got us involved, the blogs kept us informed, the blogs got facts out there, and I think they made the difference this election. As a side note, our VERY Republican co-worker informed my husband and me lately that "factcheck.org is a little to liberal for him..." because, you know, the truth has a "well known liberal bias..."

AAAHH! As a grammar Nazi I can't believe I did that - "TOO liberal." How mortifying.

hey, you know that you are able to edit your comments.
I do it all the time due to finger-farts, spacing issues, and so forth!
This is my favorite blog...good analysis and get the feeling that I've got a front row seat to the Washington scene. I think I've been reading here, and occasionally commenting, for 5 years or more...ever since John had a newsletter. You don't still have a newsletter, do you, John? I love the orchids, and pix of trips to Yurp and Chris in Paris's kitties, and Joe's great new dog. I'm an old hippie and tech savvy but can't quite figure out what's the use of Twitter. But nice blog...sophisticated, with a hint of sarcastic undertones.

CNN) -- Sliding global stock markets continued to reflect wider economic concerns Wednesday with both U.S. and European indexes enduring punishing sessions following losses in Asia.
The Dow Jones in New York closed below 8,000 for the first time since March 2003, according to early tallies, as investor confidence dried up amid ongoing worries about the economy and the future of the auto industry.
The Nasdaq and S&P both dropped more than 6 percent also hitting levels last seen in 2003 -- the Dow drop was about 5 percent.
