AMERICAblog: Why did John McCain bring any press at all with him to the hurricane?

(Sing song, sotto voce): Looks like somebody's an attention whore...
  • Joneses · 1 year ago
He wants to make points on the backs of the victims.

Have you guys heard about the police raiding the homes of potential protesters of the RNC? Absolutely fascist! They had warrants, but to date all they have found is a potential fire code violation.
  • bunnyjump · 1 year ago
C'mon Dems......let's shout this out...Biden, Harry, Nancy - get your mugs on the air asap!
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Well look at it this way:
How would you feel if you threw a hurricane party and nobody came?
  • bunnyjump · 1 year ago
    WOW
Watching WWL hurricane coverage: some "deputy commandant (!)"....and she looks like a fascist to boot...
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
FEMA is sure pointing out how prepared they are this time. It's beginning to look ridiculous with all its horn blowing and back patting.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
McCain can be a big hypocrite because the Democratic leadership allows it.
  • DeathBySnooSnoo · 1 year ago
Hm, Gustav. Well, I guess those Evangelicals finally got that rain they were praying for. It shows that God has a sense of humor that he's drowning out the Republicans, rather than the Democrats. Is this a vote by God against John McCain? Oh, and I'm sure they are terribly upset that they are having to cancel the night on which George W Bush was scheduled to speak. Don't throw me in the briar patch!

If the GOP isn't playing politics with the hurricanes, why didn't Barbour and Jindal also invite sitting senators, and Dem nominees, Obama and Biden, to see the preparations for their Katrina do-over?
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
That buffoon Nagin ordered everybody out of NO, so the trembling African-American women who will be hugged by Cindy and Sarah will have to be bussed in from Mississippi for the photo ops.

This is part of the rebranding of their convention, I mean, national telethon. McSame is going to do his best Jerry Lewis. And WTF is heading up one hell of floor show. So I've heard.

I understand McCain brought along a few cases of Depends from his personal stockpile to aid Gustav victims.

And I have a new doubt that's come to mind: is the supposedly breastfeeding (and therefore lactating, with all its possible timing inconveniences) Sarah Palin taking along her newborn baby to a hurricane zone?
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Thats a good question is she taking her infant to a hurricane zone or is she leaving her infant for political photo ops.
  • HelenaMontana · 1 year ago
    There are breast pumps.

I have no use for the woman as the wholly unqualified vice presidential candidate that she is, but come on.
  • Donna in Rome · 1 year ago
I breastfed 2 sons, one of whom a special-needs child (CP), one for 3 1/2 years and the other for 2. When your milk lets down automatically every 2-3 hours because it's the baby's feeding time, you have to be able to immediately take a break to either nurse or pump (otherwise it's painful and you leak). If she's doing photo ops and such in a hurricane zone and her baby isn't with her, is she going to be carrying along a breast pump, bottles, and refrigerating equipment?

But if he is with her, my main question was -- since she has said she's breastfeeding and supposedly bringing her baby along with her on the campaign trail -- is she selfishly and/or unnecessarily exposing him to a risky situation?

    with that kind of babeage?
of course he's gonna bring the press.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
John, we an ask these questions all day long, but the press won't do a damn thing about it. They refuse to report it, or even bring it up as an issue.

    Q. Why did John McCain bring any press at all with him to the hurricane?
    A. Because he's a POW and can get away with grandstanding whenever he wants.

OT: Showtime East is airing Andy Garcia's "The Lost City" right now. Wealthy Cubans and American gangsters so corrupt the Revolution happens while they dance to the pretty music. If you're in the mood for a healthy dose of indignation over the incompetence of the affluent tune it in now!

If Bush, as President, isn't going to LA, in order to not impede the work, what business does McCain have there?

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/08/31/gustav...

He said he would not go to Louisiana because he did not want to impede the work of emergency officials.
  • phillybits · 1 year ago
Was his visit in official capacity as an American or as a Republican? I think we need to know, given his pledge to "act" as an American.
  • HelenaMontana · 1 year ago
Remember when Obama couldn't go visit the troops in hospital in Germany because the Pentagon deemed it a political event? The McCain campaign put out the (untrue) word that Obama didn't go because he couldn't bring the press.

Yet McCain is going to go visit (and hamper) preparations for an impending disaster in which people will lose their homes or lives, and mcCain is bringing the press to be an even bigger distraction than his visit will be. Yet another example of his god damned hypocrisy..

This whole trip is political. And what does McSame plan on accomplishing down there? WTF can he do? If he runs down there and starts doing mini press conferences, it'll be insulting to the people as it will appear that he's doing it for his own self gain.

And no matter what McSame does this time around, it can erase the fact that he and Bush were smiling with a birthday cake while Katrina was unleashing it's fury on New Orleans a few years ago.
