More about the Yule Goat
I don't think fetus are people so I don't care one bit about "killing babies." And if after viability there needs to be an abortion? Not my business, I'm not beat up over it. I go along in public with "yeah it's icky...." for political reasons only. So the upshot here is, I wasn't trying to say the headline could be true, I was just curious if you could use the coupon for abortions since those things are expensive. No gotcha attached.
Like, "Oh, I was debating between an iPod and an abortion, but now that I have this gift card, I'm going to go with the abortion!"
I'd think that people getting abortions would be getting them no matter the price. And people who didn't want one wouldn't change their mines because it got cheaper. I've been through that decision. Money is not a deciding factor at all. That being said, if you feel its the right decision for you, the financial help would probably be appreciated, but it won't change your decision at all. I'd imagine that the demand curve is very inelastic.
Now things like condoms, AIDS testing, etc. those are things where people might actually change their behavior given the financial incentive.
Don't always bet on it. I'm very, very far from being an expert on this, but I've been led to understand that for some finances present an impediment to getting an abortion done early.
I do, on the whole, agree with you though; I think something like this is far more likely to be used for care which might otherwise be treated as optional.
Sheesh...
And BTW, that expansion of "moral objection" could also be seen as health care workers not wanting to attend to gays, AIDS patients, drug addicts or other patients they deem "morally objectionable." It ain't just about women's health, although that is bad enough.
I'm sure they're still making a buck as Touchstone, of course - gotta be like the Mormons and not let those pesky beliefs get in the way of mammon...hahaha

Women have been getting abortions (legally and otherwise) for thousands of years. Like someone else here pointed out, if a woman needs an abortion, for whatever her reason, she will make it happen, even if it results in her death. Before Roe v. Wade, I personally knew two young woman who performed self abortions, one with a knitting needle (yes people actually did that) and the other had her boyfriend kick her in the stomach. Do we really want to go back to those awful days?
