AMERICAblog: Why the pregnancy issue is NOT off limits

This works much better than the morality angle. Factual, to the point, without moral judgment.

All the musing on the social issues and Bristol's pregnancy notwithstanding why has NO ONE gone after Palin's energy plan for Alaska which has already been passed by the Alaskan Legislature and been signed into law. In order to help Alaskans get through the cold, tough winter our moose hunting woman of the wilderness proposed and got a law that will give every man, woman and child in the state of Alaska a direct payment of $1200 to help defray higher energy costs. (though they can do anything they want with it when they get it.) This is in ADDITION to the annual permanent fund dividend which all Alaskans get. (speculation is that the dividend will be over $2000 for every man, woman and child). So small government, no earmarks Sarah has added enough money to bring every Alaskan around $3200.00 this fall. The first round of checks and direct deposits are slated to go out on September 12th. Check YOUR mailbox today to see if you get a check from the Alaskan State Treasury for 3200 bucks!

arn't you supposed to keep the kids out of the politics

If Sarah Palin is going to tell gays and lesbians how to live their lives, it's a fair question to see whether she practices what she preaches.

Exactly...Governor Palin should place the naked newborn outside the igloo a few hours to determin if God wants Bristol to keep it.

Amen! I'm so glad you joined this Blog! I say bring it up!
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
I have changed my mind, Palin asked for privacy and has now asked her daughter's boyfriend Levi to join them at the convention. Sorry Sarah you cannot have it both ways. You cannot parade your pregnant daughter, her redneck boyfriend and your bullshit family values around and at the same time demand family privacy and "time to work it out"..

TIME had a good article today on Palin's first mayoral campaign.

Apparently, the job had always been pretty secular--who's going to plow the roads better, get the garbage picked up better, balance the budget more responsibly, etc.

All of a sudden, Palin started getting money from some Fundie Groups and running on a "culture war" religious right platform.

yeah and she defeated her opponent by a vote of 616 to 413 -- WOW she's a real vote getter!
  • Hannah · 1 year ago
OMGosh, Levi Johnston, father of Bristol's baby is going to the convention. Can you imagine the media frenzy. John McCain will NOT be happy about this.

Levi Johnston? Poster boy for unsafe sex? Self-admitted "proud redneck"? If he only played football instead of hockey, he might've still had a chance. The GOP are so desperate.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
this one I have a problem with. I feel sorry for this kid. he didn't ask for this, Sarah Palin thrust this on him and her daughter both, out of pure unbridled ambition and greed. People who claim to be from 'up there' have referred to her here and there as a 'shitty parent' and it seems to be true.

I want to know more about Track Palin's enlistment, someone intimated that was a choice between the army or jail, and I haven't heard anything else. This will come up in debates and it would be helpful to know because I don't think Biden's son enlisted under duress, and it would be a shame for them to be portrayed as equivalent when they are not.
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
I'm sorry but this simply rediculous. Palin is a complete nut-job.
  • Toklat · 1 year ago
I so wish Molly Ivins were alive to see all of this.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
oh, me too. and i wish we could hear what she'd have to say about it.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
The anchors can keep repeating this meme but the scrolls continue to highlight the baby mama story. Plus we all get to meet the baby dada tomro at the convention tomro. So much fun.
  • dacnova · 1 year ago
12 or 13 years ago, the GOP didn't leave Chelsea out of the discussion when Hilary said her then teenager Chelsea wouldn't have a hypothetical baby.

GOP = Hypocrites; their kids can get pregnant, as long as they marry the daddy for a few years (to look good, but keep re-elections in mind for divorces); GOP gets caught doing gay sex, demand they resign; DEM comes out as gay, get re-elected. Cheat on your wife, Dem re-elected, GOP, resign in disgrace.

Dems understand what's personal; GOP thinks it's all political, unless it reflects badly on them.

I'm waiting for the next PalinBOMB

How a person lives their life is the most accurate measure of their experience and values, not what they say but what they do. Another of those things most of us learned in kindergarten. Sadly, much of what is said in church stays in church when it conflicts with personel desires of many of those so eager to rule over us.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Bristol Palin (who names these kids anyway?) could be the poster child for Sex Ed in school.

    its NOT off limits.

hi, just stopped in. had to take a break from watching the heartless bitch barbara bush.

    he is the son of.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
I think someone should ask Palin if her daughter was given a choice regarding the regnancy. If so, how does she feel about this given her pro-life stance. For some reason the dems appear to be standing away from the abortion issue.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
The Log Cabin Losers endorsed McCain TODAY, after he picked this insane fundie to run with him. What a pathetic bunch of self-haters.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
They are republicans! So they do have a distaste for basic human rights, even their own.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Weird how Bush gets away with all his 911 crapola and scaring people about Democrats......considering Bin Laden is in the Afghan-Pakistan border regrouping.

7 yrs later and Bush did not capture the one behind 911.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
Yes, and they keep reminding us how we live in dangerous times. And that we need someone that will put this country first. At least that is what the lame duck Heather Wilson just said on local news.
  • tardigrade · 1 year ago
Well.... my mother, a Republican who is totally disgusted with MacCain and this Palin..... My mother, who does not mince words said that this 'father to be'....

"...should have kept his 'Johnson' in his Levi's...."
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    OOPS...wrong thread !!!
  • Bose · 1 year ago
    Absolutely.

It's not a [fill-in-the-name-of-any-family-or-teen-here] issue, it is a public health issue.

Listen to delegates and talking heads at the RNC. The common refrain is, "well, yeah, it [teen pregnancy] has happened in my family too, and, well, y'know, life happens."

As if unexpected teen pregnancies happen, but only accidentally, incidentally, tiny blips on the radar of families deeply devoted to abstinence-until-hetero-marriage, and then are universally embraced (as long as the shotgun wedding was not lethal).

Ah... ummmm... well... Gov. Palin? When bad stuff happens to someone in our families, all too often, we are shot down by our own. Our families disown us, we're left, abandoned, just like Capt. Leslie Smith (speaking at the RNC now).

The only reason they want everyone to shut up about everything is so they don't have to be held accountable. The MSM is always giving them a free pass so they have no reason to think they won't get one this time. I can't even begin to express how sick and tired I am of this crap.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
They are the MSM. There is no longer much difference between the right wing and the media. Even writers like Maureen Down have to act like chumps on a regular basis because they want to appear 'non-partisan' which really translates into 'stupid, self-destructive liberal'.
  • no · 1 year ago
i keep saying this over and over again too.... rethuglicans and the religious right are touting this woman's decision to get her daughter to keep her baby as a sign that she 'walks the walk and talks the talk' -- they are using this as a positive to rally the conservative base....

THEY alone released this information -- and now we see the REAL LIFE consequences of sarah palin's beliefs... this is what is in store for all girls and women across america if this woman is put in the positin of being VP/Pres....

she also slashed the funding for a program that helps teenage moms to find a place to live...but no worries, with luck her newly married daughter and fucking redneck son-in-law will walk the halls of the VP house tossing jack daniels at the walls and shooting neighborhood dogs....

PEOPLE WAKE UP -- THIS IS AT THE HEART OF THIS WOMAN AND HER HYPOCRISY!
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
the thing is...this is the kind of hypocrisy that middle america understands. Everybody gets it, no matter how the republicans spin it.

Disclosing that Bristol is five months pregnant was supposed to end the rumors that she, and not Sarah, is the true parent of baby Trig. In other words, if Bristol is five months pregnant now, then she conceived right about the time Trig was born, i.e. March or April.

Well, what exactly DOES it prove? Let's wait and see when the new baby is born. If Bristol is five months along, then she should give birth around Christmas or New Year's, conveniently after the election. On the other hand, if she doesn't deliver until the end of February--oh well, they'll say, you know how these teen-agers are, some of them have irregular periods. She just lost track of when she conceived.

If she does take until the end of February to have a full-term baby, then she COULD have given birth to Trig and, especially if she wasn't breastfeeding, she could have become pregnant again soon afterward. There's still something fishy about Bristol's having missed eight months of school due to "mono."
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
you know someone in their community has the facts on all this and it's all going to come out...

    it always does...
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
yep, folks have been posting all over the place. People who seem awful familiar with the Palins have been reiterating this is not Sarah's kid, etc. If anyone ever gets a photo of Trig where his ears are fully visible from the side please post it.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    ydthin - why that picture?
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
ABC says Johnny POW wanted to surprise us and if he vetted her out in the open like Obama did Biden it would ruin the surprise. see, everything's cool now.

ooooo Sarah's seat of power was right here: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/a-phot...
  • marblex · 1 year ago
Very simply, it's not off limits because it wouldn't be off limits for the GOP if Barak Obama had an unwed teenage daughter, had been a member of a secessionist group, or was embroiled in a local abuse of power scandal.

It's not off limits because the GOP INSISTS on meddling in the very private affairs of EVERYONE ELSE (Terry Schaivo, anyone)?

It's not off limits because the GOP has chosen to make a MAJOR LIFELINE ISSUE out of other people's pregnancies and the decisions they make regarding those pregnancies.

It's not off limits because its NOT okay if you're a Republican, unless it's okay for EVERYONE.
  • no · 1 year ago
    Pass it ON:

Palin: My unwed teenage daughter got knocked up and all I got was the lousy VP nomination!
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
great post, Rob...i'm bookmarking it and passing it around.
The GOPer party platform is 100% right-wing neocon theocrat, so let's make sure everyone knows it. McCain made no revisions to it.

James Dobson says Sarah Palin is being painted as a hypocrite when really she is practicing family values, not just giving them lip service...and besides, they're only human. What?!?!

He manages to skim over the part about all the sex outside marriage going on here. How is that practicing what you preach? Especially when you're preaching to me that I can't even marry the person I love. I'm human too, Dobson, you sanctimonious f*cker.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
yep. she's worth keeping, as a visual aid, for what evangelicals want for americans and why their philosophies don't work. I can see it on an SNL skit: Palin: "mah dotter dont need no sex edukayshun...why evahbody can see she already done learnt how to have sex. y'all just tryin tah fleece tha taxpayers agin wit that guvmint nonsense."
  • Bose · 1 year ago
Brokaw just said that it's a liberal family's battle to lose, right?

I have been physically sick for days. So many of us feel like throwing up round the clock. Everyone thought that first phone call was a joke. Many Alaskans are in shock - but they don't show us the nightly news.

She is just not that bright. She is best described as a "cheerleader bully."

You may have known one in high school.

    This needs to end soon.
