AMERICAblog: Will airline luggage policies cause even more problems?

The important thing to remember is that the politicians and the ultra-wealthy don't fly commercial. They zip around in private jets. So, they don't care what happens to the rest of us. Basically, they don't give a rat's ass how gruesome travel is.

Right now, first class is what coach used to be when I started flying 40 years ago. Coach class has been relegated to the level of a Greyhound bus -- but without the charm.

Your post reminds me of when the Reagan's were about to leave the WH. A reporter as Nancy what she'd miss most. Her reply said it all. She said she'd miss AF1 more than anything because she had HEARD that airports had become a real nightmare.
That always makes me just a little misty at how the ultra-rich can suffer so.

Another reason for regulating the airlines. It would both be good for the passengers and for the industry.

This sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, I can see some exec saying, "YEAH!, We can charge them for what they carry on, too! Even more than what we charge to check it!"
I so long for the good old days when most businesses sought to keep their customers happy. Nowadays, it seems most are looking for bigger and better ways to piss off the people who keep them in business.

The thing is, since they LOSE baggage at an all time high rate, there are some minimal things one MUST have in ones possession. I always carry a small backpack, with whatever I must have...and at times have brought a Martin backpacker guitar...about the size of a small long handbag, or pool queue bag. I would pay extra to take the guitar no problem. But some people MUST have medicine and cannot trust that to the checked in. Why the hell don't they just raise ticket prices...I mean it is all just moving which pockets it comes out of.

And I have seen folk carry incredible amounts of luggage as carry-on. It's getting worse all the time.

With all the new security checks, how do they lose ANY LUGGAGE at all?? If they have to match passengers to bags so we can send a bag on a plane we are not on, to blow it up, then why do any bags go missing??

If I have to take off my flip flops, then they have to get my bag on my plane.

This is how they lose luggage:

I was sitting in a plane once at the gate, waiting to take off. A baggage cart went by and the driver took such a sharp turn the three bags fell off the last cart's upper shelf. These 'unsecured' bags sat there under the wing of our aircraft for 20 minutes before someone even NOTICED them. I do not expect that those three pieces of luggage made their connecting flight...

Here is what you do: bring your huge bag, don't try to check it, then after you go down the ramp, have them gate check it. For free. Bet this is happening a lot.

Why not add cellphones now? With the added fights over carry-on storage, lets all make calls too!

Customer? What do they have to do with anything?

The CEO says get more money, so they do. These 'customers' you speak of, are you referring to their cash cows, the cattle they squeeze until money falls out? Those aren't people, they are chattel! Who cares about them, when there's a quarterly profit to worry about.

Seriously, though, when are business analysts going to point out the obvious: Billion dollar profits for Exxon can only mean other businesses LOSE money! So it's OK if every trucking company goes out of business (which causes the collapse of the supermarkets since they can't afford to get food delivered anymore), it's OK if Americans wind up starving, as long as Exxon does NOT post anything LESS than 500% profits over the last quarter!!!
