Larry is the only one of the commenters that got it right, Chris got it wrong. I would expect to see this on a conservative blog as a prime example of novel ways to gather crucial intelligence. Swapping some pills for ED for crucial intelligence on the ENEMY with whom we are at war in Afghanistan sounds like a wonderful story.

First, I find it rather disgusting that the Taliban is basically controlling Afghanistan again, meaning that women must wear burkas at all times and all that crap, but now must endure their men having constant hardons? nice. - People in the US that have a hard time affording life-prolonging drugs that they must have to live.
- Where does it stop? If the cheiftain wants a little 9 year old boy as a plaything, do we supply that as well? How about some slave women from Russia, or Hefs place?
- This is a stunt. It's PR, if you think this is going to change anything...read up again about the reality in Afghanistan. People get killed by our forces (bombing the highest cause) learning to hate us, and see us as one more invading force that isn't able to protect them, and they are absolutlely fed up with our forces night raids, and their treatment at our hands and then getting it from the taliban scaring, terrorizing them, killing and wounding, throwing acid on schoolgirls...
Yeah...Viagra is going to solve this problem.
I imagine if the talban catch someone with viagra it is pretty much all over with them.

So, what's the problem with this? The CIA spends $5 for a few pills that are non-addictive and gets vital information that helps in the war effort. Sounds like a great deal! How many lives do you think this effort might have saved? Would it make you feel happier if the CIA gave out bottles of Jack Daniels or Rolexes instead?
Given the recent history of torture to get information and billions misspent in Iraq to develop relationships, dispensing a few cheap Viagra pills seems pretty novel. It's also seems a stretch to conflate an intelligence officer's trading Viagra for America's health care problems.
Just how would some of you suggest that the CIA gather intelligence? This fake umbrage is ridiculous. People's lives are at stake! Do you really think that it's easy to develop relationships in the field? Do you think that these operatives can just walk up to someone and say, "Be my friend and spill the beans?"
Seriously, I'm just amazed by the lack of understanding that this is a war. People are dying yet some of you are squeamish about icky sex in the same way that one might think that the Christian Right or the Taliban might be repulsed.
Also, as much as Americans and others may not like plural marriage, it is a fact of life for many people. While some plural marriges may be abusive, others are not. Plural marriage may also offer the only kind of hope for economic survival for many women. You do realize that Afghanistan and many of the other countries where plural marriage occurs are dirt poor? Again, why not get off your butts and actually read about the lives of these people and tough decisions they have to make instead of making knee-jerk judgements? It would be wonderful if we lived in a world where everyone had the same kind of economic, political, and social opportunities as many have in the U.S. and other wealthy countries. But that is not the case. Heck, even in the U.S., people are forced to make difficult decisions to survive.
It would be nice if liberals were a little more liberal and understanding that their worldview isn't the only one. Automatically invoking sexual assault as part of plural marriage is condescending and, frankly, chauvinistic in dismissing the all too real levels of sexual violence that exists in American society. What is the leading cause of death of pregnant women in American? Their spouses or boyfriends.
This is a war! Thousands of people have died. Get a clue as to how wars are fought and won.
