I wonder that sometimes too. Aside from Kerry I don't see a whole lot of Obama mouthpieces out there (except for the occasional Richardson foot-in-mouth moment). It seems like Obama has been pretty much fighting by himself save for a couple of really close friends since the primaries, either that or he is VERY good at making his surrogates seem totally unattached from him, a trick that many a politician would love to mimic.

It is sick the way the media doesn't even bother to hide their love for McShame. I know we can look forward to an election that will be full of pro McCain propaganda and I think we all should be vigilant and push back and make noise. The netroots have to organize between ourselves and do email blitzes and really push back. It's the only way we will get some fairness - even pretend. Because we all know it will be ugly and the criticism is already starting. Every week we are treated to Obama has a problem with (insert group of the week here). this we can look forward to all summer.

There you go again, John. And a good thing, too. This overly deferential treatment of McC's military experience is just sprinkles on what really is a turd of a record. Everything in his military background should be fair game, despite the cries and whispers of swiftboating. The cons invented the procedure of turning a career of valor into one of grandiose cowardice, so let's hear the truth about things like why his plane got shot down; because of his ineptitude and hotshot impetuosity, perhaps? Why did he crash five of our aircraft in his flying career; because he was a lousy pilot? How could a five-from-the-bottom graduate of Annapolis suddenly be allowed to join an elite flying unit; because his father was an admiral? And just how often was he tortured: and was some of that torture simply medical treatment to reset the broken arms that he forgot to tuck in when he ejected that plane? There are a million of these detailed questions and yes, we should not be afraid to go there. The more it is revealed that he is a W in disguise, a party animal in hero's clothing, a dead man running, the better it will be for truthful campaigns in the future.

I'm (provisionally) willing to give him a pass on the propaganda tapes, because who knows what people will do to protect themselves when they're prisoners of war? What I'm not willing to give him a pass on is his entire military record (which he refuses to divulge). What we do know is that he did not do very well when being trained as a Navy pilot (but probably got a pass because his father and grandfather were Admirals), he may have received more favorable treatment from his captors because his father's position (or for who-knows-what other reasons), he was responsible for the loss of five (yes, count 'em, five) Naval aircraft (four in accidents and the fifth in combat, which led to his capture by the North Vietnamese), and we still don't really know how culpable he was in the USS Forrestal fire that led to the death of over 130 sailors and the wounding of even more. The original rocket was fired from another plane, but it's unclear whether McCain's response after this was negligent, or not (but then, without the release of his complete military record, we'll never know, will we?). I'll never understand why the MSM gives McCain such a free ride (and good for Dana Milbank for pointing this out).

I just don't think it's wise to attack McCain propaganda video. As a veteran who has been to SERE school, those things can easily be made under duress, as well as edited and manipulated. Yes, even back in the 60's and 70's. Equating his propaganda video that he was presumably forced to make while in captivity to throwing away one's service ribbons or attending an anti-war rally is really a comparison of apples to oranges.
There are plenty of other issues that make McCain un-presidential, and yes I am a staunch Obama supporter. But please John, PLEASE leave this propaganda video slant alone. It's just not appropriate... and could in fact backfire.

Well when you look at McCain wife she looks afraid to say to much. The body language shows she isn't comfortable at all. She looks like a stepford wife. Laura Bush is really a nice lady. It is to bad that she wasn't our president. She is a lot better. Michelle Obama is comfortable in her own skin. I think like Laura Bush she will make a good first Lady.

O/T--My 81 year old uncle died last night. He was WWII vet, raised 7 children and his first great granchild was born earlier this year. He was a widower and had gotten in the habit of listening to Rush Limbaugh and company during the day. In the past few weeks he become convinced Arabs were upstairs in his home "having meetings". Too bad he couldn't have had happier delusions in his final days. I hate these people.

The way McCain never sticks to any principles and changes his views constantly shows that he is weak and will fold under pressure just like with the propaganda tape. How many other serviceman captured were killed for not giving into making a propaganda tape? McCain was a weak man when he was young and he is still a weak man.
If McCain is running on his days as a POW, then that makes it fair game to question it.

You are so right about the media's double standard! Imagine if Michelle Obama had forged prescriptions and stolen drugs from a children's charity?! Or laughed about lying about her age when she got together with Barack, who lied about his age, too, while still married to the mother of his children? It's not really risky for McCain to trot out his "scandal-ridden wife to attack Mrs. Obama" because he knows the media will give him a pass on anything he does, while focusing on stupid claims against both Obamas.
