AMERICAblog: WSJ: Charlie Crist is "The Republican Barney Frank"

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 5 months ago
And Lindsey Graham is the Republican Jim Nabors.

And David Dreier is the Republican Paul Lynde.
  • woodroad34 · 5 months ago
    Wellllll, gol-ol-eee, Sarge!

Now, let's go to the center square to win:
"I sang in the choir for years, even though my family belonged to another church. "
    Paul Lynde (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/p/pau...)

    Maybe you've got something there.

Could they be more obvious without just saying: "Governor Crist is gay like Barney Frank"?
  • Butch1 · 5 months ago
I think the comparison to Barney Frank has a deeper meaning than the Insurance debacle with his veto. They are going after his orientation, beard or no beard.
  • randysmith · 5 months ago
I'd make it more like AIG!!

All that and partisan misrepresentation too. The bill Charlie vetoed needed veto-ing.
  • jpjones · 5 months ago
As a Floridian, I am no fan of Charlie Crist. But I don't believe he has ever had sex with anyone a day in his life. He projects the supremely easy-going self-confidence of someone who knows there is no one out there who can ever expose him. As for WSJ, they want to derail a "moderate" Republican without coming right out and doing a hatchet job on him. After all, if he ever becomes president, they'll have to support every single thing he does no matter what.
  • lysias · 5 months ago
I wonder when they'll make the same comparison about Lindsey Graham or Mitch McConnell.

I THOUGHT S CAROLINA LT. GOV. BAUER WAS THE REPUBLICAN BARNEY FRANK

    http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid94694.asp
    une 30, 2009
So. Carolina Lt. Gov. Bauer Not Gay
South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer (the man who would be governor should philandering governor Mark Sanford resign), is not gay.

In an interview with The State to talk about the very real possibility that Bauer might become the state’s governor should Sanford step down, Bauer brought up the subject of his sexual orientation.

The 40-year-old bachelor has dodged the gay rumors before, and this time, he says he wants to put them to rest once and for all.

“One word, two letters. ‘No.’ Let’s go ahead and dispel that now,” he said in the interview.

“Is Andre Bauer gay? That is now the story. We’re a long way from where we were a week ago. We have diverted what the real topic should be here: Is the governor capable for carrying on the duties for which he was elected?”

Sanford made headlines last week when he admitted to ducking his staff and his wife to keep secret a trip to Argentina to visit his lover.

Though Bauer has not called for Sanford to step down -- he says it’s not his call -- he has admitted to discussing with state Republican leaders the possibility of not running for governor in 2010 in exchange for taking over the governor’s mansion now.

Cheeleader Andre set this gal's gaydar in motion. In fact, it sounded like an office complex fire alarm. And she picks 'em with deadly accuracy. . .
  • woodroad34 · 5 months ago
So, let me get this straight *ahem*.

    Bauer is not GAY?
That is he doesn't put his pony in his neighbor's corral?
He does sing in the choir at a church his parent's don't belong to?
He doesn't go to Home Depot?
    He never got his toaster?

Seriously? He's not gay? Phew! Wow! I'm sure glad that's settled once and for all.

Not gay, you say? Glad he had to "dodge" that rumor.

Don't worry, be happy, Democrats! If they get rid of every moderate in the Republican Party, Demos win!
  • bacon2 · 5 months ago
I don't doubt for one minute that the "wingnuts" are lining up against our "happy and orange Gov.", but it has nothing to do with hurricane insurance. Most Floridians know or think they know that Crist is gay, but won't admit it. I am a liberal democrat, but will admit for a Repub Gov., he hasn't been too bad so far. I could care less if he is gay, just think he should be honest about it.
  • Judas Peckerwood · 5 months ago
Not a very flattering comparison -- for either of them.
  • jpjones · 5 months ago
    Ain't it the truth!!

Sorry, Joe. I disagree. Before The Fannie/Freddie meltdown, there were plenty of people screaming that there was a problem - but nobody listened, especially Barney Frank. This is the same type of scenario with Crist in Florida. I don't see any games here by WSJ. They are right on target.

The Florida legislature voted overwhelmingly for HB 1171 because they can see the writing on the wall - Florida is one Hurricane away from bankruptcy and needs more capital to pay for hurricanes. Gov Crist has chosen to ignore the $18 billion shortfall which means everyone in the US will be footing the bill when we get hit by the next big hurricane. His veto of HB 1171 should have required him to come up with another solution to the Cat Fund mess, but so far, he hasn't done that. He's content to stay on the path towrd a financial meltdown for Florida. That's negligence and malpractice on his part. The WSJ is absolutely correct in their assessment.
  • caphillprof · 5 months ago
That wasn't their innuendo and you know it.

Now if Americablog had done this, the wingnuts would be rending their garments, and tsk tsking about outing. But the WSJ, you give them a pass.
  • nikto · 5 months ago
    What the WSJ REALLY meant:

Both Crist and Frank watched The Sopranos.

Both Crist and Frank love pizza with sausage on 1/2 and olives on the other 1/2.

Both Crist and Frank prefer Star Trek The Next generation to the Original.

Both Crist and Frank prefer the Japanese Godzilla to the American one.

Both Crist and Frank think CERTS is a breath mint.

Both Crist and Frank both hate anime.

Both Crist and Frank use soap-on-a-roap in the shower

    THAT'S what they mean't!

Traded it in for a rentboy?
  • sonofloud · 5 months ago
OH come now, if Crist were really gay, what better way for the Republicans to prove they are becoming gay friendly?
I know it's not exactly Chairman of the Republican party but it's a start !
  • leliorisen · 5 months ago
'If' he were gay? As in, 'if' the world were flat?
  • Zorba · 5 months ago
    OT, but Coleman (finally) conceded.
  • leliorisen · 5 months ago
I am surprised they didn't add the line, "where's the outrage?" ;-)
  • ndtovent · 5 months ago
    O/T but
Breaking news on CNN: Coleman concedes to Franken.
  • nicho · 5 months ago
It's a two-few for the nutbags who are on the WSJ editorial board -- they are certifiably insane.

First, it smears Crist -- while there's nothing wrong with being gay, being alleged to be gay isn't going to help in a GOP primary.

Second, it reinforces the lie that Barney Frank is solely responsible for the failure of the banking system -- instead of the GOP cultures of greed and no accountability. Frank is a good person to blame it on, because, even though it's false, it taps into the rampant homophobia in the US.

I like how the Republikkkans use Graham/Crist/Foley-types when it's convenient and then kick them to the curb when that's convenient.

    It's all good . . . when you're a Republikkkan!
  • Moncusa · 5 months ago
    Or Demokkkrat too.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 5 months ago
Make no mistake: Murdoch outed Crist.

The fan will be hit by shit. . .
  • Indigo · 5 months ago
Oh, right! WSJ is not WSJ anymore, it's Murdoch-babble. I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder.
  • woodroad34 · 5 months ago
Just what kind of conservative publication is WSJ? Don't the Republicans juuuussssst haaaatte state sponsored insurance plans? Isn't Crist just being the good Republican? Or is Marco just being the better republican with all his "traditional" family views (next stop Argentina) and Huckabee endorsements? http://marcorubio.com/

Let's all shout: "Marco's too cute to be a Republican".
  • woodroad34 · 5 months ago
Barney Fag and Charlie Crossdressing....Oh, wow! It's all coming together.
  • jpjones · 5 months ago
Oh my God, of course! He didn't marry for the beard - he was doubling his wardrobe!
