I loved it! I have the same feelings as Dan does - I just know that Obama is the right one for President.......and Hillary, capable as she is, is not what we need at this very momentous point in time. Thank you for sharing this.

Made me cry, John... My dad taught these guys when I was young and he assisted in the initial efforts in mainstreaming these often mistreated people. My brother and I had a great friend through our pre and early school years named Willie. While not a student of Dad's she was the eldest sister of Mom's best friend. She was a great friend in our childish play and while we knew we sometimes had to explain things more carefully neither myself or my brother ever realized that she was 20+ years our senior. She died when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. While I haven't been around a Downs person in years, I know of the tremendous strides in treatment and education as well as witnessing Dad's struggles so long ago. What a great young man in the video...I know his Mom and Dad must be very proud!

Made me cry. The kid is wrong about everything, except the main thing: Obama genuinely cares about people like him, people like me, people like you. He's a guy who graduated near the top of his class at Harvard Law School to become a community organizer. This is his legacy from his mom, no doubt - he's also a guy who grew up around the world, who grew up poor, who understands that we are all just people. I don't want to snark HRC in this post, but she has made clear what she cares about: winning by any means possible. Obama has a larger destiny, and knows he will succeed or fail by a larger yardstick: changing the political process, making it truly representative of the deeper aspirations of the American people. And that includes including and taking care of people like Dan Drinker. While the kid may need some guidance on racial stuff, I think he got the main idea.

Perhaps Dan identifies with African Americans more because he knows the challenges that many have faced. I did not interpret his remarks as racial but more as he has an affinity with people who are different from him.

With McCain you will get Lieberman as POTUS before the 4 year term is up...complete Israeli-firster takeover of our government...you think Chertoff, Mukasey and the rest of that bunch would leave if McCain wins? Not likely.
Not just for the reference to "quiet riots", but also for the speaking style that Obama is adopting in the speech. Did he purposely use a more informal vernacular because he's talking to black preachers in a southern city? Or does he adopt a forced less formal vernacular when talking to white audiences?

I spent 20 years of my teaching career instructing people with Down's Syndrome. (The other half was teaching political science). What people who don't have a lot of contact with these special people don't realize is that they are very good judges of character. I have not yet decided which Democratic candidate to support, but I respect that Will has put the Dems through his own filter and found a man he thinks is trustworthy. Will is entitled to his opinions just as every other American is. Actually, if one studies voter behavior, Will is not far off the reasons many voters chose their candidates. It was a delightful video and thanks for sharing it.

I love this video. My daughter is 17 and has cerebral palsy and wants to vote for Obama but she will not turn 18 until after the election. She likes how Obama speaks too but she shared with me that you have to me nice to black people but you do not have to be nice to women. That made me sad but I thought was insightful of her.

You can't be serious! What a sick site to post this.
So your point is that this nice young man endorsesa Obama because:
1) "he's a good talker" 2) "good speech" 3) "he's BLACK"!!!
And, because the heavily made up Hillary is WHITE, he's not for her!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
So the bottom line, as mentioned above, "Dan is symbolic"!!! You really can't be serious.
And I love this one "His judgment of character........"!!! Did you say "JUDGMENT?????? HAve any of you wacked out libs been paying attention (dumb question I guess as I haven't seen anything on this site about it!) to the latest racist Obama scandal of the last week when it ahs finally come out that Hussein's "JUDGMENT" is the main problem and the reason Mc Cain will win in '08!
You libs are incredible!

Your're missing the entire point. The young man, in his complete innocence, supports someone he feels he can trust. Try to look deeper then Dan's ability to speak his heart. No wonder you guys got us into an illegal war on false information; you have no ability to think critically.

It's fun to use Downs people as colorful commentators on various aspects of life. Notice he instinctively sensed the corrupt character of both Bill and Hillary Clinton. He doesn't need reasons - our intuition is our best guide. I've always loved simple speakers for the common man like Bill O'reilly and Sean Hannity. They don't show off with big egghead words like the effete liberal elite. They speak in the phrases of the steel worker and the machinist - the real working man. They've told us along that Slick Willie and his man/wife Billary were bad news. I think this Downs kid is on to something. We need to listen to that little voice inside, our conscience, that tells us there is something odd about a mannish woman like Billary. It's the same voice that tells us to mistrust funny men like Elton John and Chris Crocker.

I've reported you to Disqus for an attempted coordination of email attack. Luckily I set up my spam filter expecting just such personal attacks. Instead of engaging in the issues, the Hillbot's first instinct is to go for the personal and gutteral attack. Read the Disqus TOS before your next attempt at harrassment.
John Aravosis

Goof, you need to set your disqus setting to NOT send you email updates. That's what's happening, and even worse, when you receive the emails, your spam filter blocks them and then they get posted to the comments here. So, go into your settings and set it NOT to send you emails.

John --
No offense, but after years of demanding, and pleading for people with high intelliegence to lead this country, your post of an endorsement by a mentally retarted person is, to say the least, bizarre. It's harsh to say, but such a person really can't make an informed decision about who to vote for.
AngelaChanning
I don't mean this as a personal attack but I am sorry to say that is a close minded thing to say. I have actually received forwarded emails saying the most bizarre claims about Barack Obama from people with presumably average intelligence. These folks truly believe that Obama is the AntiChrist -- and sadly I am not joking or using hyperbole. So, based on their inability to make informed decisions by believing and spreading such tripe, what are we to do about that? I have also encountered folks that say they would vote for someone because they are better looking...and presumably they are of average intelligence. What kind of informed decision making is that? My point is, that Dan is quite capable of using above average reasoning in his decision making compared to other folks of average intelligence. Thank you for listening.
GDawg

He is just like all of the liberal kool-aid drinkers, he is voting for Obama because he speaks well and he is black. That mindset is what put you Dems in the 'Trick Bag'. Now you are stuck with Obama. I hope to God that McCain has to face Obama and not Hillary, because Obama will get hammered by McCain in November. GAME OVER!
You libs should of stayed with Hillary, but you didn't, and I'm glad you didn't.
Obama is a sinking ship. The Pastor Wrong story will stay with Obama all the way to November, Fox News and talk radio will not let the story go away.
An_American_Karol

GDawg, keep trying to convince yourself. McCain is too old and too angry to be president. Once Obama turns his attention to the general election, McCain will be toast. "More of the same, vote McCain"
Bush_Bites
I think either Hillary or Obama would wipe the floor with McCain in a debate.
McCain wasn't very bright to begin with and now his mind's going.
It's pretty obvious and it will be more obvious when he's forced to match wits with somebody smart.
BorninUSA

McCain couldn't debate either Hillary or Obama without Joe sitting by his side to help him. McCain is so senile he has trouble remembering things even after Joe tells him what to say. If they ever do debate, ask McCain if he plans war with Iran, if he plans to reinstate the draft, when he would begin bringing our troops home. Listen to him lie and we will remember what he says.
GDawg

We will find out soon. August is only 5 months away and the Dems will have their canidate and November a few months after that. Time will tell and I think it will be McCain and I can't wait to see and hear the anger from the left.
I'm afraid that you libs will have to live with your anger at the GOP another 4 more years.

BB, of that there is no doubt. Even the Republicans have thrown in the towel on winning over Congress in November. They tried the spin in showing how unpopular Congress is but they know Congress is getting low marks because of Republicans not Democrats. How many Republicans are leaving now? hum...26 giving up their seats?
John Aravosis

I'd ban you, but you're not a very good troll, so you can stay. Any moron knows the Republicans are DYING for Hillary to be the nominee. Limbaugh kind of let that cat out of the bag (well, as has every Republican I've ever spoken to). So yeah, keep trying to convince us that Obama is the worst candidate ever. He scares the heck out of the Republicans, and I can't tell you how many Rs have told me that they're thinking of voting for him over McCain. And no one - no one - on the right has ever told me that they'd consider voting for Hillary over McCain.
