I've stated that I have fairly low expectations for Obama and that the people who are counting on him for "change we can believe in" are going to be sorely dispapointed. Tom Engelhardt's post from Nov 12 does an excellent job of explaining why this is so. It's a serious reality check on who Obama is, who he has surrounded himself with, and perhaps most significantly, the reality of what he is being handed:
Engelhardt concludes the post by suggesting we keep the pressure on him to do the right thing:
"Leave Obama to them and he'll break your heart. If you do, then blame yourself, not him; but better than blaming anyone, pitch your own tent on the public commons and make some noise. Let him know that Washington's isn't the only consensus around, that Americans really do want our troops to come home, that we actually are looking for "change we can believe in," which would include a less weaponized, less imperial American world, based on a reinvigorated idea of defense, not aggression, and on the Constitution, not leftover Rumsfeld rules or a bogus Global War on Terror. See? Sarah Palin didn't have to know what a VP does.

Shocked, shocked!!!
Shipps said, though the church had been riding high ever since the successful 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the gay marriage fight and other recent setbacks have forced the church to deal with skepticism over its faith and history.
First there was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's unsuccessful run for the Republican presidential nomination. Many in the church were shocked that Romney's Mormon faith was a source of discomfort for some voters. "Latter-day Saints were just amazed to think there was such bigotry in the country," church spokesman Michael Otterson said. And a raid on a polygamous breakaway sect in Texas last spring was a reminder of the church's practice of multiple marriages in the 19th century, even though the Mormon Church has long renounced polygamy. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/...

Wow, what a bunch of lies from Mormon "leadership"!!!!!
And I suppose that story was written before the infamous 1997 memo released last week which showed that the Mormon church had long range plans for the referendum they finally got?

They plan now, but I guess we wait until he is sworn in?
This is what we do in the US. We get ahead of ourselves, we have can't wait. I was 100% for Obama (but my absolute first choice would have been Kucinich). But I don't advocate either trusting implicitly, or denouncing already. We WATCH what he DOES....
No Breathing Space in Washington: Don't Let Barack Obama Break Your Heart
