AMERICAblog: Zakaria on Palin: she doesn't even understand the question

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
If only she'd admit that she doesn't understand the question. That would open the door to a discussion. So far, it's not happening.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
republicans admit nothing. It is their worst trait.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
    That's the sad part.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
In the last eight years we've seen where putting people in office who don't know what they are doing has gotten us....

I am beginning to feel very sorry for Sarah Palin......it is scary and sad.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I can't grandma. She should of said NO when McCain asked her.
Come on...Palin knew/knows she is not equipped to be VP or President.

I don't feel sorry for her.....She should of said NO when McCain Asked her.

That would have taken integrity and honesty, not to mention putting the country first. Palin, in her own pathetic way, is a budding megalomaniac - leaning on her ignorance to convince herself that somehow she is special. We are clearly in insane mode now.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
True Red_dwarf. The good news is that America is slowly realizing they've been had by the folks they might no mind having a country beer with. They're tired, and we can all sense it. They know McCain is more of the same. 80% of people surveyed felt she was picked just so McCain could boost his numbers. Her stats are dropping among women, white males, and even religious groups.

America is better than this. People are still struggling to accept Obama, but it's inevitable! Enough will come around at the end of day.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I was reading about Biden's prep for the debates. The man is totally in command of his faculties. His focus will be to convice America that Obama is the man for the job. The press will accentuate any gaffes by Palin. He won'd be condescending, he'll just correct the situation by saying, "I disagree, and here's why."

You can't fake facts! You can talk in generalities, but whe the other person puts facts, numbers, and names on the table it becomes an embarassing thing for the one who's faking it.

I have only one child who turned 15 yesterday. I have had offers that would have taken me away from being a full-time mother. I said no. It may seem sexist, but I think there is nothing that I have done that has made me more proud than being a mother. When I heard my daughter play Beethoven on the piano(self-taught), I could see how the sacrifice was worth it. I have been there for the first words, first steps and every accomplishment. I can see why my mother enjoyed being a mom so much. I can't believe someone as unprepared for the presidency, as Palin would miss shepherding her children through their childhood and teens so that she could be McCain's running mate. It is not a choice that I would have made. Say what you will about Hillary, but she was a devoted mother.

I don't feel sorry for Palin. I feel sorry for her children. The Palin pick is horrifying for women like me , for reasons other than her ignorance. I understand many mothers need or want to work. I understand that because of advanced educations, many woman continue their careers when their children are growing up. But, Palin is on a track that she didn't have to take. She is not running for a 9-5 position or one that allows for family emergencies to come before work. I have to say McCain doesn't care about her family either.

Actually I do feel sorry for Palin. Really, as a woman I'd like to see someone as competent as Hillary as their VP choice .. I think Palin may have let the stars get in her eyes when she was asked, and may have had a plethora of "yes men and yes women" to bolster her ideas of doing more politically than just be governor. She may have had ambitions to do more. If she had let herself have more maturation time, she may well have been prepared in another 5 years.

If, as many republican pundits are reporting, she’s just been overwhelmed with 34 different coaches telling her to do 34 different things in answering questions – that maturation time could have been used for her to feel confident about herself enough to tell those remaking her “ NO! WYSIWIG!”

But that didn’t happen and now her political brand is tainted and spent.

While I don’t like her politics, her religion seeping into her politics, etc. and would NEVER vote for her, it’s still painful to watch.

Someone may deserve all the trouble they get, but that doesn’t mean you can’t feel something for that person.

Consider what this says about the run of the mill Republican if Spiro Agnew, Dan Quayle, Reagan, Bush, McCain, and Palin represent the best their most qualified they can find.

It sounds like 6 of the 7 dwarfs from Snow White
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Not really. I think by Republican standards, Snow White's dwarves would be unacceptibly overqualified, uppity, eggheaded, ivory tower intellectuals.

Nothing to see here...move on...we know that about forty percent of the white men in America are sporting boners (without Viagra) because we've got Caribou Barbie. Over and out. Oh and our buddies at Diebold are all ready for election day. That's it in a nutshell. Thanks for voting anyway. Your pal, Karl Rove.

Sarah Palin would not even be on the radar if it were not for Idiot America. Any questions?
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Exactly. America is not in serious mode. We're in funny, funny, ha-ha mode. Caribou Barbie, supported by rednecks, cowboys and illiterate women throughout the US - well said Boston (Rovian/Corporate propaganda at its finest).
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
I would argue that America is in a serious mood. The problem is that 49% of
the nation has an IQ of 3
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    WOW!
Send this video to all you Republican friends
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I bet she won't debate Thursday Night.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Republicans are far more crafty than that. They will probably drug Biden's meal before the debate, either kill him or make him so incompetent, confused and out of it, he might even insist he is a Republican. Of course, if Biden is killed, the Republicans will clain the Democrats bumped him off as they knew he wasn't up to facing Palin.
  • clytemnestra · 1 year ago
yeah ... .cause we all have heard the republican line about how Obama is regretting his vp pick ...projection much?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    oh sure ya you betcha!
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
So where is Todd going to be while she debates, under her podium.
  • clytemnestra · 1 year ago
    As said on Dailykos:

McCain continuously fidgets with his fingers again (ring finger again, anyone?) and answers for Palin <strike>like a parent accompanying his daughter to a college acceptance interview</strike> like it's a f*cking parent-teacher conference (h/t to CoolOnion for the far better metaphor).

Fareed is great. He should be in Obama's cabinet....he gets it. Palin is a disaster, period.

    Is it Thursday yet?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Our neigbor had "women for McCain" yard sign up.....she took it down. The Obama signs are popping up like weeds all of a sudden. I Think even the republican country club mom's are getting it. Anyone with half a brain, be it Rep or Dem gets what a disaster Palin is, how political McCain is, and how serious these last few days have been.

Ignore the polls. Ignore the polls. We must behave as though we are two points behind. Never let up, volunteer, drive people to polling places, knock on doors, donate, make phone calls. We must not get comfortable and over confident.

McCain's winning the rethug nomination and campaign has been suspicious from the beginning. Is McCain predestined to fail?

Looks like a good place for this email I got today. Sums her up quite nicely:

    Subject: Sarah Palin

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.' Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was. The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle.'

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. 'You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.

    Good Grief Charlie Brown!

The "Blessed Sarah" was ordained by the Christian Right -Dobson, Hagee, Robertson + Clear Channel and their ilk. They threw a Texas sized hissy fit at the very thought of McCain choosing Crist, Pawlenty or Lieberman as running mate. But, McCain sold what was left of his soul not to mention his honor and his credibility and ACCEPTED (not picked) Sarah.

The "Blessed Sarah" should remain at McCain's side to the end of this election because if by the grace of all that is sacred, America survives this and elects Obama, it will mean the final nail in the coffin that is the Republican Brand. It will have more than a few right wing Christians - like those who prayed for divine rain at Obama's acceptance speech to scratch their heads and shout at clouds.
